It is that dreaded time of the year again when the weather is cold and dry and unforgiving on our skin. Who else detests winter with a passion just like I do? My flaky skin and “arid as a desert” elbows, hands and knees add to the gloominess and the lethargy that consumes me in the colder months. This time round, however, I am armed with a bunch of products to combat dryness, and the Organic Riot Spotlight Cream for elbows, hands and knees is the star of my skincare arsenal. This product was kindly sent to me by Organic Riot and Nykaa, and I can’t thank me enough for introducing me to this winter saviour. Read on to find out why I love this cream so much. Read More »
If there is one Indian brand that makes excellent lip balms, it has to be Organic Harvest. With winter at its peak across India, lip balms are absolute saviours for me, and I have stocked up on a number of different variants. I have already reviewed the Organic Harvest Happy Lips lip balm in the Pomegranate variant on the blog, but in case you missed that, here is my review of the Happy Lips Green Tea and Lemon Oil variants from Organic Harvest.
I have switched up my skincare quite a bit recently to adapt to the cold weather. An updated skincare routine post was therefore overdue! So here is how I am pampering my skin on winter mornings and nights to keep it soft and glowy until the summer sun shines again!
AM Skincare Routine – My AM routine starts with washing my face with The Face Shop Dr. Belmeur’s Daily Repair Foam Cleanser. This face wash gently cleanses the skin without stripping it dry and is perfect for the cold and dry weather. I am usually in a massive rush in the mornings, so I skip toner (guilty!) and directly go in with my Magic Dust Vitamin E Face Serum which makes the skin super soft and hydrated without feeling heavy at all. I then go in with a generous layer of the Tvakh Triple Protection Sunscreen, a lightweight and hydrating sunscreen that is a staple for me throughout the year because it doubles up as a moisturizer too. For my under eye area, I use the Mama Earth Eye Cream because it is super hydrating and affordable. I slap on my Organic Harvest Happy Lips Lip Balm and I am done with my skincare! While applying my makeup, I am currently enjoying mixing some rosehip oil with my foundation because it prevents my makeup from clinging to the dry patches and provides a beautiful sheen to the face. Rosehip oil is a great facial oil for me because it somehow reduces my acne and hydrates the skin without making it greasy, therefore being a perfect final touch to my AM skincare.
PM Skincare Routine – Evenings are when I tend to pamper my skin a little bit more because I have a little more time and because skincare helps get rid of the fatigue of the day. I remove my makeup with the Garnier Micellar Bi-Phase Water and then cleanse my face with the Dr. Belmeur Face Wash. I then use the Tvakh Vitamin C toner and apply my Magic Dust Serum. I then apply a very generous layer of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel and my Mama Earth Eye Cream and Organic Harvest lip balm and am ready for some much-needed sleep! On alternate days, I use the Vya Naturals Rose Water as toner and add the Dr. Sheths Daily Peel to my PM skincare regimen. On the days when my skin is suffering from breakouts, I add the Skin Salad Charcoal Mask to my PM regimen, and if my skin is feeling dehydrated then I use a Dear Packer Home Remedy Sheet Mask after my serum.
Overall, this skincare routine has been working fairly well for my skin at this point of time and these products are the ones that I can recommend without batting an eyelid. If you have acne-prone, combination but dehydrated skin like mine then you can try out this skincare routine and let me know how it works for you! I would love to hear your take on these products and your go-to skincare routine at the moment 🙂
A change in weather can drastically impact the needs of your skin and it is crucial to adapt your skincare to these needs. As the mercury has dropped in this part of the world and the wind has become chilling and dry, my skin has been craving for gentle hydration. This is why I have started using the Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Foam Cleanser from The Face Shop to cleanse my face without stripping it dry. Read on to find out why this face wash is perfect for the nippy weather.
The Dr. Belmeur Range by The Face Shop is especially curated for sensitive skin, and contains mild plant-based ingredients. The Daily Repair Foam Cleanser is a translucent gel with a pH of 6, which is slightly acidic and helps with maintaining the acid barrier of the skin. It produces a decent amount of foam to cleanse the skin but not too much. It has a mild medicinal-herbal scent which does not linger and is free of any irritants such as perfume. The formula also does not contain some of the notorious nasty additives, such as parabens, synthetic pigments, mineral oil, benzophenone-3, animal-derived ingredients, propylene glycol and talc. The product claims to cleanse while hydrating and soothing dry and sensitive skin.
My skin is usually combination to oily, but it feels quite dehydrated during winters. This face wash is perfect for my skin at the moment because it gets rid of the oil and dirt without making my skin feel dry. I usually get a few red patches on my skin right after washing my face with any cleanser, but this does not happen with this face wash. The formula is super gentle and leaves the skin feeling baby soft and smooth, and the results last all day long. It also provides a subtle glow to the face right from the first wash.
Although this face wash is a bit pricey (INR 900 for a 150ml tube), it will last you a long time and is worth the investment for those with extremely sensitive skin. In my opinion, it will work for both dry and oily skin because it hydrates without making the skin greasy or shiny. This face wash is definitely going to be a winter staple for me and I cannot recommend it enough to all those who are experiencing cold and dry winters at the moment!
I do love all my liquid lipsticks but what my lips crave for during the cold weather is a nice nourishing lip balm. I had been seeing rave reviews of the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balms online so decided to try these out, and believe me, my lips have been thanking me ever since.
I bought the Original formula and the Dark Chocolate and Cherry Tinted formula. Both of these smell heavenly, like desserts, and are extremely nourishing too. I do not like the thick lip balms that form a coating on the lips but these are nothing like that and actually melt into the skin of the lips. They just create a nice glossy coat of oil on the lips that keeps the lips hydrated for a good 3-4 hours. I tend to get dry patches on my lips during winters and these lip balms resolved the problem within 2-3 days of use. I also love the fact that these lip balms contain SPF 15 as well. The only complaint I have with the product is that the tinted lip balm is not pigmented enough and will barely show up on your lips unless they are extremely pale, just look at the swatch below for reference. Other than that, I love everything about these lip balms and they have become my favourite lip balms of all time.
These lip balms are available for INR 130 only and are suitable for even those on a tight budget. In fact, now I am tempted to try out the body lotions and other products from Palmer’s as well. If you haven’t tried these lip balms yet and your lips are suffering in the harsh weather then do try these out now, I am sure you will love them 🙂
So I decided that I needed some glow on my face and went ahead and purchased the Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Vitamin Glotion. This face and body lotion is a fine concoction of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and grapefruit and mulberry extracts that brighten, repair and hydrate the skin. Basically, it contains everything you need to get that healthy winter glow and to keep the dryness at bay.
This product is quite unique from other face lotions because while it has the consistency and texture of a lotion, it provides the finish of an oil-based serum on the face. It is light-weight and fast absorbing like a lotion but extremely hydrating and nourishing like a facial oil. And yes, it does provide an instant glow to the face post application.
Although it sinks into the skin really quickly, the oily-skinned ladies need to be a little cautious with the amount they use, because it can give the face a greasy appearance if you use too much. I will recommend one pump for those with oily skin and two for those with extremely dry skin, for the entire face and neck. Also, this lotion is more suitable for the night time so that it gets ample time to work its magic and also because it can cause makeup to slide around if used in the day.
Overall, I like this product because it does what it claims to do and is a no-nonsense lotion in that aspect. It provides an instant glow, brightens the skin with regular usage, and definitely moisturises it really well. Also, with so many awesome ingredients in one bottle, you can’t really go wrong with this glotion. The price of INR 800 for a 50ml bottle, plus the shipping charges of INR 200 does make this product a tad expensive and I sincerely hope that the brand finds some way to reduce the shipping costs but other than that I do not have anything to complain about regarding this product. So if you are someone who is attracted to skin-loving vitamins like a magpie is to gold then you must get your hands on this gem.
Ask any Indian grandma how to cope with dry skin in the winter months and she will lovingly direct you towards a bowl of honey. Honey helps in retaining the skin’s moisture in the cold weather and adds a bounciness and youthfulness to the skin, which is exactly what the Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser is also able to do. This extremely gentle face wash is a boon for those who suffer from dry, irritated, chapped, or sensitive skin and here is why I say so.
The proof of the pudding is in its ingredients and this face wash has coconut extracts, raw honey, geranium oil, and rosewood essential oil as its key ingredients. These ingredients make sure that while the cleanser removes dirt from the pores, the skin does not lose its natural oils and suppleness. The formula is in the form of a honey colored gel that does not froth a lot and feels very mild on the skin. This lack of excessive froth makes sure that the product is not dehydrating at all.
This gentle formula is suitable for those who have been struggling with sensitive skin that reacts to harsh chemicals in face washes. I also love its sweet, refreshing scent that is very relaxing.
The product comes in a bottle with a pump that makes it so convenient to use. The price of INR 387 for a 100ml bottle is a little steep but if you have never found the perfect product for dry and sensitive skin then your search will definitely end with this product. A must buy for the cold weather in my opinion!
Scrubs can be quite tricky during the winters because the skin is already dry but that doesn’t mean that you let the dead skin sit on your face until the days get warmer. The Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask is the perfect solution to this dilemma because it combines the exfoliating properties of coffee with the nourishing goodness of honey. The brand recently sent me the product to review and here is what I think of it after a few uses.
First of all, I love the name of this product and its super cute packaging which is basically a black plastic tub with a spillproof lid. The whiff of pure coffee will greet you as soon as you unscrew the lid, a perfect aroma to wake you up in the mornings and to relax you at night. The scrub has a semi-thick, semi-liquid consistency with gritty coffee particles embedded in the formula. These particles act as strong exfoliators so I wouldn’t recommend using this scrub every day, it is more suitable for using once or twice a week.
I usually apply a layer of the product all over my face and let it dry like a mask, this typically takes around 5 minutes, then I wet my face a little and rub the product in a circular motion so that the scrub particles can work their magic. After I wash my face, my skin feels much softer to the touch and visibly brighter, my face feels smooth and non-greasy, but not dry.
The ingredient list explains why this scrub works so well. The ground coffee helps to smoothen and brighten the skin while the wild bee honey, aloe vera extracts, and shea butter make sure that the skin does not feel parched after using the product. Also, the Kaolin Clay helps to suck out all the grime and grease. The presence of so many fresh ingredients makes this scrub a winner for me.
Overall, this is an excellent all in one product because it brightens, scrubs, AND nourishes the skin. The price of INR 499 for a 125gm tub seems pretty reasonable too. The exfoliating particles are a little rough so this may not suit extremely sensitive or dry skin but it should suit all other skin types. This scrub will give you happy skin days all throughout winter and beyond, so do check it out asap!
Evening skincare routines are usually way more effective than morning skincare routines because your skin gets a good 8 to 10 hours to absorb the goodness of the skincare products. This is why including an excellent night cream for your face in your P.M. skincare is an absolute must. But what about the rest of the body? Identifying the lack of a night-specific body lotion in the market, Greenberry Organics has launched their Night Lotion with Anti-ageing & Brightening Extracts that provides overnight hydration and rejuvenation to the skin.
This night lotion contains a bunch of nourishing oils, along with organic refined Murumuru butter that carries powerful anti-oxidising properties. It also contains pomegranate oil that is rich in essential fatty acids that prevent ageing and keep the skin looking supple and youthful. The consistency of this body lotion is buttery and extremely smooth. It literally glides on the skin and sinks in almost immediately without leaving any streaks or white cast. If you prefer slightly less intense night creams for your face then you can use this lotion on your face too, and who doesn’t love a multi-tasking product, I know I do.
Efficacy-wise, this body lotion scores full marks. Although it sinks into the skin instantly, it keeps the skin hydrated and super soft for hours. My arms and legs literally feel baby smooth in the morning when I use this product at night. With some body butters and lotions, when you scratch your arm even hours after applying the product, the cream crumbles and gathers, which means that it has been sitting on the surface of the skin instead of being absorbed, but this does not happen with the Greenberry Organics Body Lotion which leaves the skin super moist but without any trace of a greasy residue.
This body lotion combines the best of both worlds in a bottle by being light-weight as well as intensely hydrating. It has earned an irreplaceable spot on my bedside table and has become a winter skincare staple for me. Priced at INR 595 for a 200ml bottle (currently available for INR 500 on Amazon), this body lotion seems like a cross between a body sorbet and body butter from the fancier brands and it is a wonderful hybrid indeed. Do give it a shot if you are in the market for an excellent nighttime winter moisturizer.
I must confess, I am one of those people who are always too lazy to use a body lotion. I may follow a seven-step skincare routine for my face but when it comes to my arms and legs, I assume that they will fend for themselves. This attitude doesn’t give me much trouble during the warm and humid summers but come fall and winter and my skin starts complaining about the dryness and flakiness, and I have to half-heartedly make some room for a body lotion on my vanity. However, this autumn and winter, I have a body lotion with me that is actually a joy to use, and this product is the St. D’vence Autumn Edition Moisturiser, an Ultra-Enriching Body Lotion that is perfect for the colder months.
This nourishing body lotion contains Argan Oil, Avocado Butter, Olive Oil, and Vitamin E, ingredients that I really enjoy slathering all over my skin. Also, the fact that these hydrating oils and many other natural ingredients are the first many names in the ingredients list proves that this is truly a product that celebrates nature’s goodness and does not just use trace natural ingredients as a marketing strategy. It is paraben-free, mineral oil free, phthalates free, and hypoallergenic, basically it is devoid of all harmful chemicals that can damage your skin.
Texturewise, it has a fairly thick consistency – somewhere between that of a body butter and a body lotion, however, it spreads evenly on the skin and gets absorbed quickly, without leaving any white streaks. It has a feminine, perfumey scent which I absolutely love because I enjoy layering up products to smell good all day long. This scent may seem a little strong when first applied but it does fade to a beautiful and mild floral scent within a few minutes and lasts for several hours on the skin. As for the efficacy of the moisturiser itself, it leaves the skin supple, hydrated, and healthy looking, without any traces of dryness.
I will also like to give a special mention to the packaging, it is so cute and is the perfect size for travelling with! The flip cap, the shimmery label, and the tiny leaf at the front make the bottle utilitarian as well as perfect to fit in with the autumn theme. I do not like to travel with bulky lotion bottles and find decanting them quite a messy affair, so this packaging is a boon for me.
The St.D’vence Autumn Edition Moisturiser is currently available for pre-ordering on Amazon. It is a must-have if you want your skin to stay nourished and hydrated despite the chilly weather. The brand has spent 3 years in extensively researching and planning this product that contains 10 premium hand-picked ingredients sourced by personally travelling around the world. This moisturiser is also making history by being the first beauty product to be available for pre-order on Amazon in the website’s 20 years of existence. St. D’vence believes that every person deserves a healthy body and skin and their philosophy reflects in every ingredient of this product. Currently priced at a discounted value of INR 399 for 300ml, it is quite affordable too. So pre-order yours now, I am sure you will fall for this moisturiser this autumn-winter!
In continuation to yesterday’s post, today I will talk about the Greenberry Organics Bio Active Intense Night Cream, the evening counterpart of the Bio Active Bright Day Cream. This night cream was also sent by the brand to me and I found the ingredient list very intriguing. It has Jojoba Oil to soothe dry and irritated skin, mulberry extracts that act as anti-oxidants, almond oil to help clear the skin, and organic murumuru butter that is rich in essential fatty acids. Needless to say, this cream sounds like a super-food for the skin and indeed, it is exactly that.
This night cream is even thicker and richer than the day cream from the range and has an extremely soothing floral scent that helps me fall asleep at night. You need to use the tiniest bit of the product on the face, otherwise, you will be left with a crumbly or streaky finish. Just take a small amount of product, rub it between your fingers to warm it up, and then dot over the face and massage in with a circular motion. This cream is almost like a body butter, but for the face, so you have to be careful not to use too much product, but personally, I love the rich and intense hydration that it provides to my face. With the smallest scoop of product, I am able to see the cream sink into my face within minutes, making the skin super soft and smooth. Even when I wake up in the morning, my skin looks radiant and healthy. On the days when I get inadequate sleep, I usually suffer from dull skin but this night cream prevents that as well. I also feel that just within a week of use, the cream has slightly lightened the spots on my face, which is quite amazing.
Overall, I am happy with the product because it lives up to its name of being “Intense” in the hydration department. Even though I have combination to oily skin, my face does not feel greasy after applying this product, making it the perfect winter night cream for me. I also love the fact that the product is so gentle on my face and does not cause any tingling or itching at all. I will highly recommend this product for those with flaky or irritated skin who are in immediate need of hardcore moisturization. Priced at INR 675 for a 50gm tub, this cream may seem expensive but it will last you a really long time if you use the right amount of product. Also, it is currently available on Amazon for INR 600 only, so do grab yours now to pamper your face with some TLC.
Disclaimer – Product sent by the brand but all opinions are honest and my own.
I have been trying to pay more attention to my skincare over the past few months, which now involves using photo-sensitive ingredients on my skin. This is why I am literally slathering sunscreen on my face every single morning, and for those super hectic days when you don’t even have time to brush your hair, I reach for day creams that contain SPF to kill two birds with one stone. With the nip in the air making my skin flaky and dry, I need something rich, hydrating, yet non-greasy, and the Greenberry Organics Bio Active Bright Day Cream offers me exactly this and much more!
I have been eyeing both the day cream and the night cream from Greenberry Organics since the time they were launched by the brand but was waiting to finish up the creams I had with me already before adding these to my cart. Somehow the stars aligned themselves and as soon as I was about to finish my current day cream, Greenberry Organics kindly sent me across these products! I have been using this day cream for about a week now so this will be a first impressions style review because I wanted to speak about the product before winter reached its peak. So here are my thoughts on this lovely day cream.
This cream comes in a sturdy jar with a leakproof insert inside the screw on lid which makes the product travel-friendly. The formula has a thick, creamy consistency, quite similar to that of a cold cream, but sinks into the skin really well and does not leave the face greasy at all. Bear in mind that this is a very rich cream, so you do not want to go in with a large dollop of product – a little goes a long way and too much cream may look streaky and white on the face. Just dip your finger into the tub and dot that much cream all over your face and gently massage it in to get supple and soft skin that looks radiant. The cream contains saffron extracts that always help to add a glow and brightness to my face and it also contains aloe vera and olive oil that provide the right amount of nourishment without clogging the pores. I feel that this cream is one of the most nourishing day creams that I have ever used without being too heavy on my skin, something that will work well for all skin types but particularly for dry to normal skin. The presence of SPF 25+ is the cherry on top of the cake because even if I don’t have the time to layer on my products, I can step out of the house without worrying about sun damage.
Overall, I do not see any cons of purchasing this product other than the fact that some people may find the tub packaging unhygienic. However, I don’t see how such a thick product could be packaged if not in a tub – just keep your hands clean while touching your face and you will be fine. I love the pleasant fragrance of the cream and its comforting texture that takes me back to my childhood days of using a cold cream throughout the colder months. Fortunately, this product is not as greasy as the cold creams from back in the day and is also all-natural and free of parabens and mineral oil. Just like the other skincare products from the brand, this day cream has managed to fully impress me. The cream is priced at INR 575 for a 50gm tub but is currently available at INR 500 on Amazon. Grab it now if you are someone who is lazy with their skincare and suffers from parched skin during the winter months.
