The sun is shining bright on our faces now and we are all reaching for the matte sunscreens, well at least skincare crazy people like yours truly are! I seem to be going through one tube of sunscreen a month these days, and the one that I am currently using is the Plum Chamomile & White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream SPF50. Here are my thoughts on this product that is pretty much the need of the hour.
Not only does this cream provide a high SPF of 50, it also contains ingredients that are really good for the skin. Some of the ingredients that stand out are chamomile, known for its soothing effect on the skin, white tea, a powerful anti-oxidant, and Gingko Biloba extracts, which possess anti-ageing properties and help with fine lines and wrinkles. I haven’t used the product long enough to comment on the anti-ageing properties, but it definitely calmed down my hormonal breakout after just one use and I did not break out after that. Also, ever since I started using this sunscreen as a replacement for my last one, my skin has become visibly brighter, so full marks to Plum for that.
Texturewise, this cream is semi-thick, but it spreads pretty easily on the skin. Remember, a little goes a long way with this cream, so if you will use too much product, it will leave a slight whitish cast on your face, however, if you use the right amount then the cream will sink into the skin within a minute or two. Once blended in, the cream offers a completely matte finish on the face and feels really light-weight, much like the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen. I am absolutely loving its matte finish during the hot and humid weather and my makeup sits well on top of the cream too. I also love its subtle sweet scent which instantly perks up my mood in the morning (yes, fragrances do that to me, call me a weirdo if you like :P)
Overall, I feel that the Plum Chamomile & White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream is one of the best sunscreens for those with oily skin because it protects the skin from the sun rays and also nourishes it from within. Priced at INR 520 for a 60ml tube that will last you a really long time, this cream is quite reasonably priced for its high SPF. So, do check it out if you have oily skin and suffer from breakouts in the warmer months.
Black is hands-down the most flattering colour for all body types and skin tones, however, styling black outfits in the summer months can be tricky, especially during the day. Nevertheless, this does not make me ditch my black ensembles on warm days because I know that they are some of the best pieces in my wardrobe. Here is how I recently styled a black dress for a summer brunch, to make sure that I don’t look completely out of place and inappropriately dressed for the weather.
To keep things easy and breezy, I went for a black dress with a looser silhouette and floral cutouts from Shein.com. This loose-fitting style is definitely more weather appropriate than say a bodycon dress in a dark colour. I also didn’t want to sport an all black, wintery look, so I added a splash of colour with a beautiful tassel necklace from Ajio.com and a pair of matching blue earrings. I also sported a bright fuchsia lip that definitely shouts spring.
I would have loved to pair some colourful pom-pom sandals with the outfit but since I don’t own any, I went with the golden flats from Ajio.com which are also quite summer-appropriate. Flats add a casual vibe to the dress, which would look quite formal with heels, and the gold definitely adds a fun element to the outfit.
Overall, I was super happy with the final look and would definitely sport it again on a sunny day. Are you someone who loves their black dresses all year round? Leave me a high five in the comments if you are!
Hi guys! I am here today to add some positivity to a gloomy Monday with the much-awaited review of the June ZoBag. I know that it is already the second week of July but I received this bag towards the end of last month and wanted to thoroughly test the products before writing my verdict. For those of you who are not aware of ZoBag, it is a monthly subscription bag that provides 5 full-sized beauty/skincare products at an extremely affordable price of INR 499. The theme of the June ZoBag is Summer Retreat, and true to its name, it carries 5 skincare products that help reverse the signs of sun damage and offer a glowing, healthy skin in the harsh summer months. So without much ado, here is the detailed overview of the contents of the bag.
1. Biotique Bio Papaya Revitalizing Tan Removal Scrub – The first product that I will talk about today is the Biotique Bio Papaya Tan Removal Scrub. This wonderful scrub has a delicious, fruity fragrance and a thick creamy consistency with rough granules that are perfect for the removal of dead skin. This scrub is on the grittier side of the spectrum and may not be suitable for extremely sensitive skin, however, it works wonders on my skin and leaves it looking much brighter and buttery soft! Regular usage of this product visibly improves the texture of the skin making it more vibrant and smooth. Therefore, this is the perfect scrub for those who prefer a strong exfoliating action.
2. MCaffeine Sea Fern Sunscreen – When it comes to a summer retreat, one product that always comes to mind is a sunscreen, and the MCaffeine Sea Fern Sunscreen is an interesting new sunscreen lotion on the block. It combines the antioxidant properties of caffeine with the soothing touch of calendula and the nourishment of argan oil, to create a sunscreen lotion that can double up as a moisturizer. This product gets soaked into the skin really quickly and leaves behind a fresh scent. It contains SPF 30 which is ideal for daily use in the summer months. The only downside of this sunscreen is that it is not waterproof and needs to be reapplied every 2 hours and it also leaves behind a slight white cast. An honorable mention goes to the pump based packaging with a plastic lock that is extremely handy for preventing leakage while throwing this product into a suitcase.
3. Votre After Sun Mist – Votre is a skincare brand that I have trusted for a long time and therefore I was overjoyed to receive the Votre After Sun Mist in the June ZoBag. Facial mists are excellent at refreshing sunburnt skin throughout the day and this particular product has an amazing cooling action. It contains the extracts of Honeysuckle, Noni Fruit, Grapeseed, and Amla that moisturize and heal the skin to repair the damage caused by sunlight. The size and packaging of this face mist are perfect for the handbag and this is one product I never step out of the house without these days. One word of caution is that it does spray out quite a large amount of product in one go, so use a gentle hand and spray the product from a distance for even coverage of the face.
4. Krishkare Skin Repair Gel – Everyone is aware of the cooling and hydrating properties of aloe vera, which make it an essential part of a summer skincare routine. The Krishkare Skin Repair Gel combines aloe vera gel with cucumber extracts to create the perfect concoction for summer. This gel has a sweet, herbal scent and needs to massaged on the skin post-cleansing for maximum benefits. You need to apply it in a circular motion to the face and massage it in so that the ingredients get absorbed into the skin, then rinse off the excess to achieve visibly brighter and supple skin. This product comes with antioxidant and antibacterial properties that reduce acne while cooling sun damaged skin. However, it contains parabens in the list of ingredients which may not be preferred by some.
5. Krishkare Hydrate Sheet Mask – Last but not the least is a product without which any skincare subscription bag would be incomplete – a sheet mask! The June ZoBag contains the Krishkare Hydrate Sheet Mask which is paraben-free (Yay!) and contains coconut jelly and natural cellulose that help to hydrate the skin while making it more supple. This sheet mask has an instant cooling effect on the skin and also claims to get rid of a tan. I did not have a tan when I used the product so I cannot really vouch for the tan removal properties but this sheet mask definitely relaxed my skin and left it feeling energized and refreshed. The perfect way to pamper yourself after a hectic day in the summer sun!
Believe it or not, the June ZoBag contains products worth INR 1600 and you can make them yours at an extremely affordable price of INR 499! Additionally, the bag in itself has a pretty floral design and enough room to pack in a ton of beauty products! I am thoroughly satisfied with what I received and I genuinely feel that ZoBag is one of the best beauty subscription bags in India at the moment because it provides excellent value for money. Not one product is a dud or a filler product, which is what makes ZoBag stand apart from the rest. I am eagerly looking forward to this month’s bag and ZoBag has definitely found a loyal customer in me!

If you are familiar with the Indian wedding calendar then you will know that a huge chunk of the wedding season coincides with the months of formidable heat. If you are invited to a summer wedding in India, the question of what to wear proves to be a difficult one. There are several factors that you need to take into consideration before you finalize your outfit for the big day as well as the accompanying events because, at an Indian wedding, a simple summer dress will never suffice! Here are a few tips from my end on the subject, that may help to simplify the dress selection process.
The Venue – The first thing that you need to find out is whether the venue is an indoor one or an outdoor lawn. This, along with the timing of the event, will give you a rough idea regarding the range of temperatures that you will be subjected to. For an indoor wedding, you can get away with thicker fabrics and heavier materials, but for an outdoor event, stick to lighter fabrics and dress up the outfit with heavy jewelry.
Your Role – If you are a relative or a bridesmaid then you will have to run around quite a bit throughout the wedding. Remember, the priority is the comfort of the bride, so go for outfits and shoes that you can easily walk in. The above picture shows my outfit for an engagement party. I opted for an A-line Kurti because I needed a breezy outfit for the outdoor event. The embroidery adds the fancy element and my block heels give me a few inches while allowing me to run errands for the bride 🙂
The Timing – The timing of the event needs to be taken into consideration before you zero in on an outfit. If it is a day event then you can opt for lighter colors and minimalistic makeup. For the night, however, choose darker colors and heavier makeup because you don’t want to get washed out by the photographer’s lights! I would recommend bright oranges, greens, and blues for the daytime and dark pinks and jewel-toned colors for the evening. The picture below shows my go-to outfit for an evening wedding ceremony. The dark pink color of the Sari is balanced well by the golden net. This sort of a combination looks festive enough, without being over the top.
Strike A Balance – You can always create the perfect look by pairing a heavy garment with less makeup and dainty jewelry and vice-versa. Go for a matte foundation, waterproof mascara/liner, and a long wearing lipstick that can brave the sultry heat. If you feel that your outfit is a bit on the gaudy side then leave your hair down to add a casual touch. Basically, balance the different components of your look to create the perfect wedding guest ensemble. Remember, you do not want to outshine the bride, so always add some subtle and simple elements to your outfit.
These are some of my tips to look fabulous this wedding season without breaking a sweat! I hope that you find these tips useful in case you have a wedding to attend in the near future!
Sun exposure is one of the biggest contributors to skin damage and can cause tanning, dullness, and dryness too. However, venturing out in the sunlight is something very inevitable for most of us and, in fact, it comes with its own set of benefits (Vitamin D). This is why I recently purchased the Nature’s Co Aloe Vera After Sun Gel that offers relief from sunburns and cools down the skin post sun-exposure.
This product is an orange colored gel that smells like apricots and has a slightly sticky texture. It spreads on the skin quite easily and gets absorbed within a few minutes, and the stickiness disappears after 5 minutes or so. It provides a cooling sensation upon application that relieves the skin, and it also prevents tanning to a certain extent. My only complaint is that the product has a very liquidy consistency and therefore things can get a bit messy if you are not careful. Perhaps a jar instead of a tube would have been a more suitable option for the packaging.
Overall, I am quite impressed with the quality of this product because it delivers what it promises and does not make any false claims. The fact that it is made with natural ingredients such as aloe vera gel, peppermint extract, and bearberry extract, adds to its appeal. A 125ml tube of this product is priced at INR 425, which is quite good because I feel that one tube will last me the whole summer. I would highly recommend using this product, in conjunction with a sunscreen, to minimize the damage to your skin this summer.
One makeup product that is the trickiest to apply during the summer months is foundation. Most medium to full coverage liquid foundations do not work well in hot and humid climates and end up clogging the pores. Therefore, as the temperature starts rising, I switch to mineral foundations, and the Bellapierre Cosmetics Mineral Foundation in the shade Cinnamon is my favorite.
This foundation comes in the form of a finely milled loose powder. I apply it with my trusty Real Techniques brush after using a primer and cream concealer on my skin. On its own, this foundation provides a medium coverage but I still feel that I need a little concealer for my blemishes and dark circles. A primer is essential to make the powder stay in place, but for the summers you can use a lightweight moisturizer instead. The product stays on my skin for around 4 hours after which I need a touch-up. The packaging is pretty compact and you can carry it around to conceal the shine throughout the day. The tiny holes allow just the right amount of powder to make it to the exposed surface but still be cautious as the powder does tend to go everywhere.
The shade Cinnamon is a yellow toned color that works perfectly for my skin tone. It offers a matte finish that keeps the oil at bay and lets my skin breathe even in the summer months. Spritzing a bit of rose water after applying the foundation also helps with making it sit better on the skin. I have added an image of me wearing this foundation on top of concealer for reference. It is also available in a bunch of different shades but is a bit pricey ($18 for 0.3 ounces). If you are willing to make the investment then this mineral foundation is perfect for oily skin and can cover small blemishes. If you like a more natural finish and do not want full coverage then this product is an excellent choice for daily use in the hot climate.
As the heat intensifies, makeup takes a back seat because the skin begs to breathe! As dramatic as it may sound, many people suffer from the worst skin during the summer months. Any form of instant relief is highly appreciated during the days of terrible breakouts and redness that accompany the warm weather. The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion is one such instant remedy that calms down my skin.
I use this lotion as a day cream whenever I suffer from hormonal breakouts. It immediately mattifies my skin and the tea tree oil helps in reducing the redness and irritation. It also prevents further acne and shrinks any swellings that are early signs of gigantic pimples.
The formula is very light and almost like a gel. A tiny drop is sufficient for the face and the neck and it keeps the oil at bay for a few hours. I have also noticed that makeup applies really well on top of this lotion. In fact, I often skip primer when I use this product. As far as I know, this lotion does not contain any SPF, so you will need an additional step of applying sunscreen before you step out of the house.
Priced at INR 995 for a 50 ml tube, this product is on the pricier side but it works as a great moisturizer for the days when your skin is too oily and temperamental. I would highly recommend this product to those with extremely greasy and acne-prone skin, the antibacterial action of this mattifying lotion will work wonders for you!
I recently won the Fresh Hair Anywhere giveaway hosted by Batiste India and received the Batiste Clean and Classic Original Dry Shampoo as the prize. The timing of winning this product was perfect because these days my hair is getting sweaty just a few hours after washing, thanks to the Indian summer.
This dry shampoo is as good as the other ones that I have tried from Batiste and has a fresh, borderline floral scent. You just need to spray some product on your greasy roots from a distance and massage it in for hair that can pass off as freshly washed. I have used it on really greasy and dirty hair and it did not disappoint at all. Frequent washing and blow-drying can make the hair dry and brittle but this dry shampoo makes it bouncy and slightly shinier too!
Bear in mind that the product is white in color, so brush it really well to get rid of the white cast. If you use the right amount, this should not take much effort. Overall I am quite pleased with this product and will definitely be using it throughout the summer. Priced at INR 649 for a 200ml can, it does not even burn a hole in the pocket, which is always a good thing. Do give this product a shot if you want to break out of the vicious cycle of washing your hair every single day!

A tiny bottle full of the goodness of olive oil arrived at my doorstep the other day. Yet another goodie from Qtrove! If you read my previous post then you will know that Qtrove sent me a few products to try out and this time it is the Areev Oil Of Olives Body Lotion. Qtrove is a wonderful curated online marketplace that showcases homemade and organic items produced on a small scale. They have a fantastic collection ranging from skincare to food items and I am sure you will find many interesting things on their website. Here are my thoughts on the Areev Body Lotion, a gem of a product indeed!
This lovely body lotion is quite lightweight and sinks into the skin very quickly. This is great because nobody likes the sticky and greasy feeling of heavy moisturizers. The lotion instantly softens and hydrates the skin and makes it super smooth. It has a pleasant herbal/natural smell that lingers on for hours after application. The fragrance is very soothing and the formula is specially designed for sensitive skin, therefore it is very gentle.
I also love the packaging of the product. The shape of the bottle and the unique design of the lid make it look very high-end. It is like a little bottle of potion that I have been unscrewing throughout the day to catch another whiff of the refreshing scent. I think I have found my favorite summer body lotion!
I am so glad that Qtrove provides the opportunity to discover these new brands whose products are even better than those of the established brands. All the products have that homely feeling to them that strikes a chord in my heart. I will definitely be trying out some more products from Qtrove soon!

Warm weather for me is synonymous with coral lips and loose sundresses. Coral is the perfect blend of orange, red, and pink, which looks great on all skin tones. My favorite coral lipstick for this time of the year is the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in the shade 109 (Rossetto).
First of all, the packaging of this lipstick is to die for. I love the combination of red and black and the signature with the tiny heart. However, some other shades of Kate Moss lipsticks come in the same packaging and it is a bit hard to tell them apart without uncapping them. I don’t mind doing that in the least because they look so stunning!
The color itself is a muted orange with hints of red. It is definitely a warm toned coral and therefore goes very well with Indian skin tones. The formula is creamy and buildable. One swipe will give you an almost opaque look but two swipes are needed for the perfect pigmentation. I would call it a comfortable semi-matte texture, with a small amount of shine. It lasts on the lips for around 5-6 hours but fades a little by this time and some of the product may settle in the cracks of the lips.
Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of this product, as I am with all the other Rimmel lipsticks I have tried so far. Its pleasant scent is the only thing that reminds me that I have lipstick on, it is that comfortable to wear! Priced at INR 275, this lipstick is definitely a steal and a must have for the summer months!
I hope that this review was useful! Buy the Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipstick here.
I love a smoky eye but black and warm colors seem a little inappropriate for the hot summer months. This blue smoky eye makeup look is perfect to bring a bit of the ocean to your eyes.
I call this my peacock eye makeup. The turquoise eyeshadow and the bright blue liner pair quite well together. This look is perfect for a pool party during the day and you can pair it with a bright lip to stand out at night.
I used the Palladio Eyeshadow Quad in Blue Suede to create this look, but unfortunately, I think that this palette has been discontinued now. You can, however, use any light blue shade with a golden shimmer in it for the lid and smoke it out slightly with a darker blue shade. For both my lash lines, I used the Loreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner in the shade Cobalt Blue which I have previously reviewed here.
Here is a picture of the eyeshadow quad in case you are able to find it online somewhere. All the colors are shimmery and really pigmented. I am quite sure though that you will be able to find similar colors from other brands too. As I always say, it is all about being creative with the products you have at hand!
I hope that you liked this look! Let me know in the comments below what is your favorite eyeshadow for summer 🙂

As hard as it may sound to moisturize each day, particularly during the hot summer months, it is essential for healthy, glowing skin. What is even more essential is a high enough SPF to protect your face from the summer sun. Lazy me likes to combine both the steps and I always prefer day creams that have an SPF. I recently tried out the VLCC Depigmentation Day Cream and here are my thoughts about it.
This day cream lies somewhere between a creamy and thick consistency. A small amount is sufficient for the whole face and you will need to massage it in to prevent a white cast. Once absorbed by the skin, it leaves the face feeling supple and hydrated the entire day. I am not too sure about its depigmentation qualities but it does brighten the skin with regular usage.
The formula has SPF 25, which is quite high for a day cream and eliminates the need for a sunscreen if you are exposed to direct sunlight only for a few minutes each day. It also contains some great ingredients such as mulberry extract, turmeric, and glycolic acid, which are known to work wonders for troubled skin. The cream has quite a strong, sweet smell that might bother some people but I am pretty fine with it.
A 50 gm tub of this cream is priced at INR 405, which is quite reasonable as this tub lasted me for a really long time. The packaging is also very unique and looks cute stacked up with the other products from the range. Overall, I would say that this is a good cream for those with dry to combination skin, as it might be a little too greasy for oily skin types. It evens out the skin tone quite well without being harsh on the delicate skin of the face. A great day cream for the summer months!
