Black is hands-down the most flattering colour for all body types and skin tones, however, styling black outfits in the summer months can be tricky, especially during the day. Nevertheless, this does not make me ditch my black ensembles on warm days because I know that they are some of the best pieces in my wardrobe. Here is how I recently styled a black dress for a summer brunch, to make sure that I don’t look completely out of place and inappropriately dressed for the weather.
To keep things easy and breezy, I went for a black dress with a looser silhouette and floral cutouts from Shein.com. This loose-fitting style is definitely more weather appropriate than say a bodycon dress in a dark colour. I also didn’t want to sport an all black, wintery look, so I added a splash of colour with a beautiful tassel necklace from Ajio.com and a pair of matching blue earrings. I also sported a bright fuchsia lip that definitely shouts spring.
I would have loved to pair some colourful pom-pom sandals with the outfit but since I don’t own any, I went with the golden flats from Ajio.com which are also quite summer-appropriate. Flats add a casual vibe to the dress, which would look quite formal with heels, and the gold definitely adds a fun element to the outfit.
Overall, I was super happy with the final look and would definitely sport it again on a sunny day. Are you someone who loves their black dresses all year round? Leave me a high five in the comments if you are!
So Valentine’s Day came and went by and I did not post a Valentine’s Day look. This was because I was busy adulting on the actual day, however, the hubby and I did manage to sneak in a V-day date the weekend after, and here is what I wore to our better-late-than-never-Valentine’s date.
Since the weather is still fluctuating between chilly and warm, I chose to wear this pink knitted swing dress from Shein.in (purchase link). I chose the size XS, which was a little loose for me, I belted it in the picture for a better fitting, but it can be worn without a belt for a casual day out when you prefer a comfier outfit.
I kept the makeup simple because I was heading out during the day. Keeping with the Valentine’s theme, I went for a soft pink look. On my lips I wore the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Zurich, and on my eyes I used the frosty pink Browbone shade from the Wet n Wild Petal Pusher Palette. I deepened the crease with the bronzer shade from the Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in the shade Medium and added a thin wing and mascara, and voila, I was done. I did not use a foundation and just dabbed some Maybelline Fit Me Concealer on my spots and under eye area because I wanted my skin to breathe. I was quite happy with the finished look for the daytime, and would definitely wear the look again for a Sunday brunch.
I hope that you liked this simple look for an easy breezy day out. This is perfect for when you do not want to wear a full face of makeup but don’t want to head out sans makeup either. What is your go-to look for an afternoon outing? What did you do for V-day? Let me know in the comments below!
So recently Urby kindly sent me a gorgeous passport holder from their range and it was everything I could ask for from a passport holder! I do not like the boring black and blue colours for wallets and passport holders, which is why the golden beige shade of this passport holder was perfect for me. Also, my name embossed in beautiful gold lettering further adds a personal touch to something that already fits my style so well.
The passport holder is made of extremely sturdy, high-quality material and even the stitching is absolutely perfect, something that helps to tell a high-end product apart from a lower end one. Even the packaging of the product had a high-end vibe to it. I will definitely be re-using the black box and the cloth pouch that the passport holder came in.
The passport holder obviously has a pocket for the passport but also comes with pockets to hold your cards, change etc. This pleases the multi-functional product lover in me and I am sure that the extra pockets will come in very handy while traveling.
I would like to thank Urby for sending me this lovely product and for completing my travel gear while keeping it uber chic!

So yesterday was Diwali and I was all dolled up like thousands of women around India. This Diwali was extra special because I chose to wear a sari that has a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, my mom had a stunning peacock blue silk sari with shiny silver embroidery which I loved so much that I coaxed her to wear it on every special occasion. When I was shopping for my wedding trousseau, I spotted the exact color combination in this marvelous georgette number, and as soon as I set my eyes on it, I knew that I had to buy it to have my very own version of my mom’s sari.
Luckily, even though I purchased this sari without trying it on, it drapes like a dream because of the light georgette material and the fabric is so easy to wear throughout the day. This is definitely the most comfortable sari that I own and the most beautiful too. I first wore this sari at a puja at my in-law’s place that was one of the rituals once I had entered their house as a new bride, which made this sari even more special for me and something that I will always cherish no matter how worn out it becomes.
This Diwali, I paired it with some huge silver chandbalis (which I love) and kept the rest of my jewelry fairly simple because I did not want to look too overdressed even though it was a festive occasion. Since I had to sport this look from the day till the night, I went with a silver-blue eyeshadow on the lids which matches the sari without being too over the top and kept the rest of my face matte and neutral. I also tied up my hair in a low bun to make the earrings more prominent.
So this was my look for Diwali and I was super pleased with this whole look, if I may say so myself, and can’t wait to wear this beloved sari yet again because I can’t seem to get enough of it!
What did you wear this Diwali? Also, do you have a piece of clothing that you have a sentimental bond with? Let me know in the comments below!
When a foundation claims to last for 25 hours and numerous beauty bloggers swear by it, you have to try it out, right? The fact that the said foundation is created by one of my favorite drugstore brands, Rimmel, was another factor that encouraged me to buy this tube that comes with the promise of flawless skin. So, did the Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish Foundation live up to my expectations? Read on to find out!
I purchased this foundation online, which means that selecting the shade was quite a task. My basic strategy is to go for a darker than medium shade, especially if it is a foundation by an international brand. The shade I went for was 301 Warm Honey, which is a peach toned beige that matches the shade of my skin quite perfectly. Unfortunately though, the foundation tends to turn lighter on my skin with time and gives the appearance of a white cast within a few hours. This was quite a bummer for me because I really loved the texture and coverage of the foundation, perhaps I need to try another shade from the range to form a more solid opinion on the “whitening” phenomenon.
Texturewise, the foundation is quite impressive, it has a liquid consistency but still manages to provide almost full coverage on the skin! This is the reason that I love this foundation so much, it covers all blemishes and gives the appearance of perfect skin without looking cakey. I haven’t really tested the 25-hour claim but I can confirm that it does stay put on the skin for 12 hours without getting shiny or patchy. I would say that the finish is a natural matte that should work with most skin types.
The foundation comes in a 30ml tube, which is priced at INR 600 in India. I was afraid at first that the tube will make the product go everywhere but it is not as messy as I had feared. In fact, it does dispense the right amount of product with a gentle squeeze. To be honest, INR 600 is a price that I would happily pay for a full coverage, long lasting foundation like this one. If only the white cast issue had not existed, this would have been the perfect foundation for me! I encourage all of you to try out this product but do go to a store and swatch the shades to make sure that the foundation does not change color on your skin. If you find the right shade in this range, you will never reach for another foundation!
I hope that this review was helpful, you can buy the Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish Foundation in the shade 301 Warm Honey here.
If you are familiar with the Indian wedding calendar then you will know that a huge chunk of the wedding season coincides with the months of formidable heat. If you are invited to a summer wedding in India, the question of what to wear proves to be a difficult one. There are several factors that you need to take into consideration before you finalize your outfit for the big day as well as the accompanying events because, at an Indian wedding, a simple summer dress will never suffice! Here are a few tips from my end on the subject, that may help to simplify the dress selection process.
The Venue – The first thing that you need to find out is whether the venue is an indoor one or an outdoor lawn. This, along with the timing of the event, will give you a rough idea regarding the range of temperatures that you will be subjected to. For an indoor wedding, you can get away with thicker fabrics and heavier materials, but for an outdoor event, stick to lighter fabrics and dress up the outfit with heavy jewelry.
Your Role – If you are a relative or a bridesmaid then you will have to run around quite a bit throughout the wedding. Remember, the priority is the comfort of the bride, so go for outfits and shoes that you can easily walk in. The above picture shows my outfit for an engagement party. I opted for an A-line Kurti because I needed a breezy outfit for the outdoor event. The embroidery adds the fancy element and my block heels give me a few inches while allowing me to run errands for the bride 🙂
The Timing – The timing of the event needs to be taken into consideration before you zero in on an outfit. If it is a day event then you can opt for lighter colors and minimalistic makeup. For the night, however, choose darker colors and heavier makeup because you don’t want to get washed out by the photographer’s lights! I would recommend bright oranges, greens, and blues for the daytime and dark pinks and jewel-toned colors for the evening. The picture below shows my go-to outfit for an evening wedding ceremony. The dark pink color of the Sari is balanced well by the golden net. This sort of a combination looks festive enough, without being over the top.
Strike A Balance – You can always create the perfect look by pairing a heavy garment with less makeup and dainty jewelry and vice-versa. Go for a matte foundation, waterproof mascara/liner, and a long wearing lipstick that can brave the sultry heat. If you feel that your outfit is a bit on the gaudy side then leave your hair down to add a casual touch. Basically, balance the different components of your look to create the perfect wedding guest ensemble. Remember, you do not want to outshine the bride, so always add some subtle and simple elements to your outfit.
These are some of my tips to look fabulous this wedding season without breaking a sweat! I hope that you find these tips useful in case you have a wedding to attend in the near future!
I am always on the hunt for affordable hair products that help to increase the volume of thin hair, therefore, I had to try out the Dove Advanced Hair Series Rejuvenated Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. This range claims to nourish and smoothen the hair while enhancing its visible volume, here are my thoughts on whether or not the products live up to these promises.
Both the shampoo and the conditioner come in glossy tubes with purple accents that I really like. As for the formula, the shampoo is a white liquid, which is not too runny and lathers quite well whereas the conditioner has the run of the mill creamy consistency. The shampoo leaves the hair quite clean without making them feel stripped. In fact, if I notice closely, it seems like it leaves behind a thin film on the roots, which might not bother most people but is annoying to me as my roots tend to look oily anyway. The conditioner is very nourishing but does not weigh down the hair or make them look oily. When used as a combo, this duo leaves the hair looking fluffier, smoother and shinier, and does not make them overly dry, unlike most volumizing hair products.
On the volume front, I do see an increase in the volume from my mid-lengths till ends, owing to the fluffy and bouncy effect created by the products. The volume at the roots, however, does not really increase much. I do find it commendable that Dove has released a well-balanced formula that nourishes the hair and adds some volume at the same time. As an added bonus, both the products have a pleasant floral scent that lingers on the hair for a couple of days. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any shampoo that significantly improves the volume at the roots, except for the Loreal Elvive Fibrology shampoo that I have reviewed earlier, but for the affordable price (INR 250 for 240ml) of this range, it is definitely worth a shot. I would recommend these products particularly to those with thin, limp hair and dry ends, provided that you are fine with a slightly silky finish at the roots.
I am late to the Maybelline Fit Me party because I have always been a Loreal girl, but now that I am here I might be converting slowly! I purchased the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in the shade #20 Sand several months ago but unfortunately, the shade was too light for me, so I shoved it to the back of my makeup drawer. However, I have recently been using it for brightening up my under eye area and also under my foundation to cover some dark blemishes and I must say that I am really enjoying the product now.
The concealer comes in a thin tube with a doe foot applicator that allows precise application. The formula is creamy and quite blendable and provides medium to full coverage. The texture is light and the product does not crease even after 8 hours of wear.
The best thing about the product is that it is quite affordable for the quality. The concealer is priced at INR 500 for a 6.8 ml tube, which is almost half the price of my favorite Loreal True Match Concealer! Although I feel that the Loreal concealer is a little more blendable and buildable, but for daily wear, I will most probably switch to this one because it is almost as good yet so much cheaper.
The only con of this product is that the shade range is quite limited. There are only 3 shades in the range with Sand being the medium shade. I will be purchasing the dark shade to wear on top of my foundation because clearly, this one is too light for that. It would be great if Maybelline could introduce at least 2 more shades in this range but if you find a shade that works for you then this product is definitely a keeper.
So it was my birthday yesterday and I thought that a birthday OOTD was in order. I was going out in the daytime but staying out till night, therefore I needed an outfit that would transition well from day to night. However, the outfit needed to be a little special because a birthday arrives only once each year. So here is what I wore on my birthday.
White is a great color for both night and day, so I chose this sheer white sleeveless shirt with plenty of bling provided by the golden beads. I paired it with my favorite pair of jeans because comfort is life. Also, I knew that there would be a lot of walking, so I went for these shimmery flats that bring the outfit together.
As for makeup, I opted for a subtle gold eyeshadow and a brownish red lipstick. I was quite happy with the final result as it seemed appropriate both for the day and the night and added a little sparkle to my special day!
Today I wanted to talk about a makeup trend that I really love, which is the monochromatic makeup trend. Basically what this means is that you follow the same color theme for both your eyes and your lips. The colors don’t need to be exactly similar but should belong to the same color family. For example, pink eyeshadow and nude pink lips, like I chose for my Valentine’s day look:
Or this bright red lipstick and soft red eyeshadow look. (Sorry about the picture quality, I took this photo with my phone in poor lighting)
I really enjoy playing with different shades of the same color all over my face. The red eyeshadow look is something that many people do not like but I simply adore. The look in this picture was one I created randomly but then liked so much that I had to share it with you. In case any of you are interested in a red monochromatic look then do let me know in the comments below, I will definitely dedicate a post to it with better pictures!
Happy International Women’s Day everyone! Although I am not in favor of singling out one day to celebrate womanhood, but since the damage is already done, let us talk about a topic that baffles a lot of women around the world. Yes, I am referring to the dilemma of how to look good without any makeup. So here are a few tricks and hacks that will make you feel more confident in your own skin and will help you celebrate your natural beauty.
1. Get rid of the redness- Concealer is one of those makeup items that most women find it hard to step out without. However, there are some easy ways to get rid of the redness caused by pimples. Ice your skin for 5-10 minutes to gain back your uniform skin tone. If you have more time at hand, then apply some toothpaste to the acne for at least a couple of hours. This will shrink the pimples and reduce the redness too.
2. Emanate a natural glow- Brightening foundations are not the only way to provide a radiance to the face. Every morning, after washing your face, massage your skin for 10-15 minutes with a good moisturizer. This will restore the healthy glow of your skin and will offer a lovely color to the cheeks.
3. Pump up the volume- Hair sprays and mousses are great for providing volume but they cause a lot of damage to the hair with long term usage. A simple way to achieve voluminous hair is to brush them upside down and then flip them upwards. This trick literally doubles the volume of my hair. If you always brush your hair upside down then they will retain a natural bounce without the help of any products.
4. Bye-bye eye bags- Puffy eye bags are every woman’s worst enemy. A great way to eliminate these without investing in expensive products is to apply a cold metal spoon to the under eye area. Keep the spoon in the freezer for some time and then place on your eye bags for a few minutes, your eye bags will disappear instantly!
5. Hydrate on the go- Facial mists are essential to reverse the damage of heat and humidity, especially when you are out and about. Instead of purchasing a costly facial spray, use a natural spray made solely out of rose water. This has cooling and hydrating properties and will keep the signs of tired skin at bay. Rose water makes for a great toner too.
These are some tips that will bring out your natural beauty and will remove the dependence on makeup. Remember, applying makeup should be a personal choice and not an obligation.
We all have those days when our throat hurts, our eyes burn, and our nose is clogged but we still have to make it to work. When all we want to do is snuggle up in a blanket with a hot water bottle then how to look good is the last thing on our minds. However, a little effort will make you feel fresher and less miserable. Here are 5 hacks that will make you look more presentable on a sick day when you are forced to face the world.
1. Dry Shampoo- If you are down with a cold then chances are that your hair hasn’t been receiving much love. Spritz some dry shampoo on your roots to give a bounce to your locks. This trick will make you feel instantly cleaner and more put together.
2. Scarf It Up- Sticking to comfortable clothing is essential on a sick day. A colorful scarf will help brighten up your outfit and your mood while keeping you warm too. It will make you look smart without compromising on the snug factor.
3. The Lip Balm Trick- Some of the most annoying side effects of a cold are chapped lips and painfully dry skin near the nostrils. You can use a lip balm or some petroleum jelly to keep your lips and your nose moisturized all day. Using a lip balm to hydrate the nose is extremely handy when you are out and about.
4. Long Lashes- Even if you don’t apply any makeup to your face, curling your lashes will make your tired eyes look so much more alive. If you are up for it then you can even apply a coat of waterproof mascara to give that extra length to the lashes and to draw attention away from the dark circles.
5. Peppermint Perfume- A perfume with a minty scent won’t only make you smell nice but will also help to unblock your nose. You can even rub a little peppermint essential oil on your wrists and throat to carry around an invisible decongestant with you.
These are some of the tips that help me survive a sick day at work without looking like an absolute wreck. Hope you find these helpful too!
