Lakme Sun Expert Ultra Matte Lotion SPF 50 | Review

A good sunscreen lotion is a skincare essential for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or lifestyle. Now that the sweltering heat is here in most parts of India and the sun is shining bright, it has become all the more important to slather yourself with some sunscreen every day. What I prefer is a sunscreen that is lightweight and matte, with a high SPF because I spend quite some time in the sun every day. Here is why the Lakme Sun Expert Ultra Matte Lotion is a staple for me.

Plum Chamomile & White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream | Review

The sun is shining bright on our faces now and we are all reaching for the matte sunscreens, well at least skincare crazy people like yours truly are! I seem to be going through one tube of sunscreen a month these days, and the one that I am currently using is the Plum Chamomile & White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream SPF50. Here are my thoughts on this product that is pretty much the need of the hour.

Plum Chamomile & White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream | Review

Not only does this cream provide a high SPF of 50, it also contains ingredients that are really good for the skin. Some of the ingredients that stand out are chamomile, known for its soothing effect on the skin, white tea, a powerful anti-oxidant, and Gingko Biloba extracts, which possess anti-ageing properties and help with fine lines and wrinkles. I haven’t used the product long enough to comment on the anti-ageing properties, but it definitely calmed down my hormonal breakout after just one use and I did not break out after that. Also, ever since I started using this sunscreen as a replacement for my last one, my skin has become visibly brighter, so full marks to Plum for that.

Texturewise, this cream is semi-thick, but it spreads pretty easily on the skin. Remember, a little goes a long way with this cream, so if you will use too much product, it will leave a slight whitish cast on your face, however, if you use the right amount then the cream will sink into the skin within a minute or two. Once blended in, the cream offers a completely matte finish on the face and feels really light-weight, much like the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen. I am absolutely loving its matte finish during the hot and humid weather and my makeup sits well on top of the cream too. I also love its subtle sweet scent which instantly perks up my mood in the morning (yes, fragrances do that to me, call me a weirdo if you like :P)

Overall, I feel that the Plum Chamomile & White Tea Sheer Matte Day Cream is one of the best sunscreens for those with oily skin because it protects the skin from the sun rays and also nourishes it from within. Priced at INR 520 for a 60ml tube that will last you a really long time, this cream is quite reasonably priced for its high SPF. So, do check it out if you have oily skin and suffer from breakouts in the warmer months.

Cetaphil Daylong Sunscreen SPF 50 | Review

Guest post by Piyusha from The Peachy Perspective blog

Hey everyone! Today I will be reviewing the Cetaphil Daylong Sunscreen. Cetaphil is a medicated brand which is targeted towards sensitive skin concerns. This brand has been a staple in my skincare routine for about a year and I recently tried out their sunscreen. Read on to know more about how this fared for me!

Cetaphil Daylong Sunscreen SPF 50 | Review

Price: This retails for INR 1499 for 50ml

My take on the product: I got this sunscreen from a drugstore to try it out because of its promising claims: suitable for sensitive skin. I got this for my face as I have really sensitive skin there. This sunscreen comes in a box and has an orange and white tube packaging. The cap is very sturdy which I quite like. The packaging is travel-friendly and quite handy in my opinion.  The product has a smooth texture and an almost liquid consistency with a slight chemical-like scent which goes away within a few minutes of application. It doesn’t feel greasy on the skin and mattifies instantly after application which I like. I’m unsure about the claim of water resistance as I haven’t really tested it, but considering how matte it looks on the skin and how easily it gets absorbed, I’m assuming it should be decently water resistant.

Coming to the price point, I feel that this is a bit overpriced. It would have been good if it was priced at around INR 700. Owing to its high SPF, although it blends with ease on the skin, it leaves a whitish cast which I honestly don’t prefer on my face at least! It works for the skin on the rest of my body quite well when I mix it with a moisturizer to aid in blending and to reduce the whitish tinge, however it didn’t work for my face. It broke me out within 2-3 days of continuous usage which I was disappointed about given that this product has listed claims of being ‘hypoallergenic’ and ‘oil-free’.

The PROs of the product

  • High SPF
  • No strong scent/fragrance
  • Paraben free
  • Liquidy texture that eases in blending
  • Travel friendly packaging

The CONs of the product

  • Broke me out on the face
  • Expensive
  • Doesn’t live up to all its claims
  • Leaves a whitish cast on the skin

In a nutshell, as contradictory as it sounds, I initially didn’t like this sunscreen but I do quite like this sunscreen these days for its texture, consistency, high SPF, and the fact that it’s so lightweight on the skin, although it does have its share of shortcomings. I would recommend this one if you are looking for a paraben-free sunscreen with a high SPF and a light formula. I wouldn’t repurchase this though as it didn’t work for my face.

Loreal Paris UV Perfect Even Complexion SPF 50+ | Review

A good sunscreen is a must for everyone, whether they spend long hours in the sun or not. I have been quite lazy with my sunscreens in the past but this year I had resolved to use them daily and I am happy to report that I have been able to fulfill the resolution to a large extent. The primary reason why some people hate sunscreen is because it is an extra step in their skincare regimen and is often greasy, sticky, or does not sit well on the skin. For this reason, I have been opting for day creams that contain a fairly high SPF as well, and the Loreal Paris UV Perfect Even Complexion is one such product that I have recently added to my skincare stash.

Loreal Paris UV Perfect Even Complexion SPF 50+ | Review

This product is essentially a tinted moisturiser, with a very high SPF of 50+, and claims to provide protection against UV rays for up to 12 hours. I am not sure about the 12-hour claim but I am fairly certain that it is potent enough to protect you from the sun for a good 3-4 hours if you apply it right before heading out, which suits the requirements of most individuals. It is a very light and non-greasy moisturiser that provides mild hydration to the skin and is perfect for those with normal to oily skin. It is also tinted but the pigmentation is not intense at all and it won’t provide you much coverage. However, it does provide a glow to the face and reduces any redness by a small amount.

I like the nozzle dispenser, because it prevents the wastage of the product, and find the packaging pretty compact and cute. However, I do wish that the for the price of INR 550 for a 30ml bottle, this product contained a little more pigment. With the current intensity of the tint, only those with fairly clear skin can wear it on its own while those with pigmented or blemished skin will need to use a foundation or concealer on top if they want to cover up the spots.

After Blending

Overall, if you are on the hunt for a moisturiser with a high SPF then this product will definitely work for you. It also comes in a non-tinted variant in case you do not care for the tint. Even though the product is slightly pricey, the high SPF justifies the cost and I love that it is not heavy or greasy at all. This is the only non-matte sunscreen that blends well into my skin and I therefore recommend all of you to give it a shot.

Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Intensive Sun Block Spray | Review

One product that is always a skin care essential but becomes even more important during a vacation is sunscreen. While everybody knows the benefits of a good sun block, many are put off by their typical chemically scent, their thick texture, and the white cast they impart to the skin. The Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Intensive Sun Block Spray addresses a majority of these concerns and is a light weight sunscreen that still offers great protection against the sun.

Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Intensive Sun Block Spray Review

With SPF 50, this product is ideal for the days when you are out and about for long hours. Also, the spray packaging makes it handbag friendly, without any fears of leakage. However, the spray itself is not very effective because the product comes out in a squirt instead of a fine mist. Therefore, you have to rub the product into the skin anyway, so the spray does not reduce much effort on that front.

Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Intensive Sun Block Spray Review

Despite the disappointing nozzle, what I like about the product is its thin, milky texture that gets absorbed into the skin within seconds without making it sticky or greasy. The product also does not provide a visible white cast to the skin although if you look very closely then you will notice some whiteness. It is not very great in terms of longevity, perhaps due to its light weight formula, and I feel that you need to reapply it throughout the day. It also claims to be water proof but in reality, some of the product does get washed off by water.

Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Intensive Sun Block Spray Review

Priced at INR 345 for an 80 ml bottle, this sunscreen is one of the more affordable sun block sprays available in India. Although this is not a mist and does need to be massaged into the skin, I enjoy its non-greasy texture and mild floral scent. If only it was more water resistant and long lasting, it would become my favorite, but for now, it does make it to my list of top 5 sunscreens simply because it is not heavy at all. Do try it out if you have oily skin and are in the market for a non-greasy sun block.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock | Review

The bikini season is almost here, so it is the right time to stock up on sunblock creams. I am very picky about my sunscreen lotions because I find most of them either too heavy or hard to blend or overwhelmingly fragrant. The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock is a wonderful exception and therefore my holy grail choice.

This product has SPF 50 which is ideal for Indian summers. The formula is light and very blendable and does not have any greasiness. It does have a scent but nothing too offensive. I use this product on my face and arms when I have to spend a day outdoors and it keeps my skin soft and smooth without leaving a white cast. It also claims to be waterproof but I would recommend reapplication after a couple of hours if you go swimming. I am particularly happy with this sunblock because it does not break out my skin, which is quite rare considering my skin type.

Spending INR 199 on a 30ml tube of this product would be a great investment for oily skinned folks like me who are on the lookout for a good sunscreen.
