Wet n Wild Foundation Brush | Review

Guest post by Pooja.

Hello to all the beautiful souls out there!

Whether you are a makeup beginner or a pro, this makeup tool is the basic requirement in your kit. Yes, today I will be talking about a foundation brush from the brand Wet n Wild. It’s a flat top foundation brush and it’s in the affordable range. But let’s see whether it’s worth it or not.

Wet n Wild Foundation Brush | Review

So, let’s start with the packaging it comes in – a simple black plastic packaging. Nothing fancy or impressive, just the basic stuff. As it is a flat top brush, my only concern is that the packaging is kinda not appropriate as it looked disshaped when it arrived. The back mentions all the details about the brush. I would rate a 3/10 for the packaging.

Diving further in the review, I was super excited when I came to know that Wet n Wild is launching in India because each and every beauty blogger, Youtuber and beauty enthusiast couldn’t stop praising this affordable and cruelty-free brand. Also, the most exciting part was the beauty tools which they had to offer for a very low price compared to other branded brushes.

I ordered it through Nykaa, but the online presence of Wet n Wild has increased now and it’s available on HOKmakeup and also on Purplle.com.

Coming to the price point, it’s pretty affordable and retails for INR 299 (you might get it -for a discount on other sites or even on Nykaa during sale season.) – Price Rating: 9/10

Wet n Wild Foundation Brush | Review

I am jumping straight to the cons now:

-The bristles are uneven.

-It’s a little rough at first.

-Doesn’t work with all foundations.

-Gives a streaky finish.

-Absorbs the product (in this aspect it’s like a beauty blender)

-Doesn’t really push the foundation into the skin, gives a very made up or an artificial finish.

-Minimises the coverage of the foundation. (Yes, opposite to what the brush is supposed to do)

-I personally do not like the way it’s not stiff while blending the foundation on the skin.

Yup, so many cons. I have tried to make it work in every way possible, but have failed. This is how it is with different types of foundation:

Liquid foundation- Gives a streaky finish. You will have to put in a lot of effort blend with this one.

Cream foundation- It leaves patches on the skin, blends unevenly.

Compacts- It picks up a good amount of product but doesn’t deposit or apply it to the face, you will have to go back into the pan several times.

Talking about the Pros of the tool:

-It becomes really soft after one wash.

-It didn’t shred any bristles on washing.

And, that’s all!!!

Overall Rating: 3/10

Shocker right? It gave me a shock too as I had heard many praises about this one.

Not recommending this one, rather save and buy a PAC brush.

Until the next post, Ciao!!

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask – Brightening | Review

The best thing about Innisfree is that they always have some offers running on Nykaa.com where you get a bunch of samples if you purchase any of their products. I recently received a decently-sized sample tube of the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask – Brightening as a freebie, and if you know me you would know that I have already tried it out to review it for you guys! Read on to find out more about this product.

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask - Brightening | Review

The product’s description on Nykaa “Innisfree brings to you Volcanic Colour Clay mask packs with 7 colours and 7 functions to combat different skin concerns at one time. The powerful sebum control effect of Jeju volcanic cluster provides clean pore care drawing out impurities from skin and ensuring brighter, radiant and glowing complexion. These can be used for “Multi-Masking” mask to combat different skin concerns at one time. Multi-Masking refers to using multiple mask packs at the same time according to skin concerns by skin area, instead of skin type. The Innisfree Volcanic colour clay mask comes with special ingredients such as Vitamin C complex (yellow) for brightening; Hyaluronic acid (blue) for hydration; Pomegranate seed oil (pink) for revitalizing skin; Madecassoside (green) for sebum control; Panthenol (purple) to soothe; Sea salts (white) to smoothen; and Mud (black) to detoxify.”

My Take On The Product – While I appreciate the concept of multi-masking which this range is based on, I only have one of the variants from the brand, which is the Vitamin C Complex (yellow) mask and hence used that all over my face. It has a shiny, smooth consistency when applied on the face but dries down within a few minutes like a regular mud mask. It does give the stretchy feeling once it dries but nothing too uncomfortable or painful. After washing it off, my skin does feel smoother and brighter, but to be honest, it did not give very striking results when I compare it to some of the other masks that I love.

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask - Brightening | Review

Final Verdict – While the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color Clay Mask is a decent mask and does what it claims, it did not impress me so much that I would invest in a full-sized version (INR 700 for 70ml). However, these travel-sized tubes are perfect for when you are on the go, so it is good to receive them along with my purchase. If you want to clear out your pores and restore the natural glow of your face then this product will work well but don’t expect any miracles.

Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review

The ancient wisdom pertaining to skincare is nothing to joke about. Like our elders often say, they had it all figured out until we came along and messed it up! This holds true almost completely when it comes to skincare and haircare rituals and many modern brands are going back to our roots to come up with products that are contemporary in their outlook yet traditional in essence. The Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub is an excellent example of this skincare approach. This scrub is a face mask and scrub combined in one and is packed with the goodness of wild turmeric, an irreplaceable ingredient of traditional skincare rituals.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
The product comes in the form of a dry powder that needs to be combined with a wet ingredient to create a face pack. The brand recommends using rose water if you have oily skin and milk or curd if you have normal to dry skin. I like using this powder mixed in with yogurt even though I have combination to oily skin.
One whiff of this powder and you will feel like you are surrounded by sandalwood and essence from a pooja. The powder not only smells amazing but is also packed with the anti-oxidant and brightening properties of turmeric along with a combination of some age-old skincare ingredients such as milk powder and besan and some contemporary and unique ones such as beetroot extracts, carrot extracts, and strawberry extracts.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
The powder easily combines with the curd to form a smooth paste which I then apply all over my face. I also use the paste on my arms to get rid of the inevitable tan. I leave the paste on for around 10 minutes and then exfoliate using the same in a circular motion. When mixed with yogurt, the paste does not become overly dry on the skin and does not give a stretchy feeling. In fact, some of the moisture gets absorbed into the skin making it feel plumper than before. The walnut scrub particles are not too chunky but they exfoliate really well upon remoistening the mask and provide a medium exfoliation without being too gritty and harsh.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
Upon washing off the rest of the product, my skin looks visibly brighter, and with regular usage at least twice a week, the product helps in getting rid of stubborn tanning. Also, the antiseptic properties of turmeric help curb acne and other skin infections, making this scrub the perfect choice for the humid Monsoon weather. Using this product not only makes my skin feel healthier than before but its calming fragrance also makes me feel pampered and relaxed as if I am at a spa.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
Trust me, you will understand the purity of this product once you smell it and look at its texture. This is why I don’t mind paying INR 695 for a 100gm jar of this scrub. The product is effective yet gentle and does not dry out the skin at all. Basically, it combines the best of the old and the new and removes the hassle of sourcing and storing all the ingredients for making a DIY mask. So if you want a mild and effective way to sort out skin problems such as acne, dullness, and pigmentation then this turmeric scrub might be your saviour!

Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick – Pink Clink | Review and Swatches

Are metallic lips passe? I certainly hope not! Even though I am not a huge fan of the metallic lipsticks that are too over the top and wash most people out, I have recently bought a beautiful metallic deep pink from the Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick Range and passe or not, I am in love with this lippie! Read on to find out more 🙂

Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick - Pink Clink | Review and Swatches

The Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick in the shade 36 – Pink Clink is a deep mauvish pink with golden micro-shimmer running through it that imparts it a rose gold sheen. When I am indoors, it almost looks like a matte deep mauve on my lips but when it catches the light it gains another dimension due to the metallic sheen that also makes the lips look fuller. The shade is more suitable for the evening and would look better on medium to deep skin tones. However, there are some more metallic shades available in the range so there is something for every skin tone.

Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick - Pink Clink | Review and Swatches

Formulawise, this product is similar to the regular Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipsticks from Sugar. The thing about the Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick Formula is that you either love it or you hate it. It is quite drying on the lips but lasts really long, and is completely transfer proof unless you eat something oily. I personally love this formula but many people find it uncomfortable and observe crumbling on the inner side of the lips after a few hours. If you are used to wearing long wear liquid lipsticks then I think you should be good, provided that you exfoliate your lips and wear a lip balm under the lipstick.

Sugar Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick - Pink Clink | Review and Swatches

Overall, I really love this liquid lipstick because of the unique shade and the long-wearing formula, and I can’t really complain about the price point of INR 549 when the brand is always running discounts and an excellent rewards program on their website. Do give it a shot if muted metallic shades are your jam!

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

Has the monsoon humidity clogged up your pores yet? Yes? Time to stock up on some clarifying face masks and the one that I am loving lately is the Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask. While I do love all my charcoal face masks, I sometimes feel that they are a bit too strong and a bit too trying to be used too often, which is when I reach for this product instead. Read on to find out my thoughts on the product.

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

This face mask has the signature green tea scent of the Plum green tea range. The formula is in the form of an extremely smooth and creamy mud mask. It glides on the skin and instantly provides a soothing, slightly cool sensation. For a detoxifying mask, this one is pretty mild, even though it clarifies the skin really well, making it perfect for those with slightly sensitive skin.

I leave this product on for almost 10-15 minutes, and by this time the mask dries up completely like a mud mask should and feels slightly “stretchy” on the skin. Upon washing off the product, my face looks visibly brighter and glowy and completely non-greasy.

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

What I love about this product is how gentle it is despite being able to pull out all the gunk from my pores. After a tiring day, it pumps back some life into my skin while calming it down and is also an excellent product for prepping the skin for a special event where you want to glow from within. The formula contains clay to soak up the excess oil, glycolic acid to exfoliate and brighten the skin, and green tea extracts to control acne – a perfect concoction for my skin type which is combination to oily and acne-prone.

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

Priced at INR 490 for a 60 gm jar, this product is quite affordable for what it does and is something that I am thoroughly enjoying in the humid weather. If you are someone who does not prefer masks that tingle and stretch the skin too much, I am sure you will love this one. Also, the fact that it is a vegan, cruelty-free product makes me favour it over others that are not. A must-have for the monsoons in my opinion!

Vya Naturals Vitamin C Face Wash | Review

Do you know what my skin loves first thing in the morning? A generous serving of freshly squeezed citrus juice! Vitamin C made a dramatic entry in the Indian skincare market last year and by now almost everyone is aware of its amazing skin benefits. A powerful anti-oxidant, Vitamin C adds a natural glow to the face and actually helps in getting rid of blemishes. Take this from someone who has struggled throughout her teenage years with persistent acne and the scars that they leave behind, this ingredient is the only thing that made a visible difference to my skin in a matter of weeks. Coming to the Vitamin C Face Wash from Vya, this product is the latest addition to my Vitamin C collection and here is what I think of it.

Vya Naturals Vitamin C Face Wash | Review

This face wash is in the form of runny, transparent-orange gel and comes in a sleek bottle with a pump. It froths pretty easily upon contact with water and you need only one pump for the entire face and neck region. Its fragrance is bang on that of freshly squeezed orange juice which is perfect for the summer months. The formula leaves the skin non-greasy and matte without that uncomfortable dry feeling. It also provides a subtle glow to my face after a sleep-deprived night which is something I definitely dig about this product.

The star ingredients of this product are Ascorbic Acid and Grapefruit Oil which are both sources of Vitamin C and bring their anti-oxidant and anti-aging powers to this face wash. If you are someone who is suffering from dull, oily to normal skin with blemishes, you must try this facewash out. Priced at INR 695 for a 100ml bottle, this product is a little pricey but is great value for the quality that Vya Naturals provide. Also, you can get an extra 10% off on the Vya website by using my coupon code MR10. So get-set-shop and do come back here and let me know how you liked this facewash!

Nykaa Get Inked! Sketch Eyeliner | Review and Swatches

Nothing says bold like a jet black matte winged eyeliner, and the Nykaa Get Inked! Sketch Eyeliner in the shade 01 – Onyx is what I have been using lately to achieve this look. While there are a whole bunch of reviews in the blogosphere about this product, here are my two cents about the product for those who are still on the fence about buying this eyeliner.

Nykaa Get Inked! Sketch Eyeliner | Review and Swatches

The Nykaa Get Inked eyeliner comes with a super thin felt tip applicator in a pen packaging. The thin tip allows extremely precise application and is perfect for those who prefer a very thin line of eyeliner for daily wear. Multiple swipes are needed to create a thicker line or a wing, which can be a little annoying if you are impatient like me, and the trouble is filling all those tiny gaps between the swipes if you do not draw them perfectly close together. However, once you have mastered using this product, the formula will definitely not disappoint. The formula is completely smudge-proof and waterproof and dries to a deep matte black within seconds. The colour payoff is amazing, as is the longevity. I have worn this eyeliner for more than 10 hours without it budging from its place, which is why it gets my nod of approval.

Nykaa Get Inked! Sketch Eyeliner | Review and Swatches

Priced at INR 450 but usually available at a discounted price on Nykaa.com, this eyeliner is definitely a good investment for its quality. If you use an eyeliner on a daily basis then this product will be great for you, because felt tip eyeliners tend to dry faster than the bottled eyeliners. A perfect matte eyeliner that I am sure you will love!

Nykaa EyemBold Kajal | Review and Swatches

Back in the golden days, a swipe of the kajal crayon thingy from Lakme in my waterline and I would feel so made up 😛 Then came the era of retractable kajal pencils and what not and the thick smoky line of kajal got replaced by a thin black line that did not venture beyond the waterline. However, Indian eyes are best complemented by the thick line of kohl, the old-fashioned and the best way, which is why I recently purchased the Nykaa EyemBold Kajal to go back to my favourite eye look that I had abandoned several years ago.

Nykaa EyemBold Kajal | Review and Swatches

For the longest time, I refrained from buying this product because I had heard that it irritates the eyes and I have fairly sensitive ones. However, luckily for me, the formula does not sting my eyes at all and I only feel a slight sensation if the product enters the area near my tear duct. As you can see in the swatches below, the pigmentation is on point, and the product creates a jet black line in one swipe. The formula is waterproof and almost completely smudge-proof. I am someone who has to spend long hours at the office and even the most long-lasting kajals tend to bail on me due to watery eyes. This one, on the other hand, stays pretty much intact throughout the day and the intensity of the pigment stays the same for at least 8 hours.

Nykaa EyemBold Kajal | Review and Swatches

Nykaa EyemBold Kajal | Review and Swatches

Since the product is in the form of a jumbo pencil, it goes on as a thicker line on the eyes as compared to the retractable kajals available in the market. However, it is easy to control the thickness while application by adjusting the pressure you apply against the waterline. Overall, this product can give you a nice daily look as well as a smokier look for a special occasion. Priced at INR 450, this kajal comes with a free sharpener, which I feel is good value for money because a little product goes a really long way and I am sure that this kajal pencil will last me for months.

Overall, the Nykaa EyemBold Kajal receives a big thumbs up from me for bringing back memories of the good old kohl days and making me fall in love with smokier kajal again. Do try it out if you want a bold, jet black kajal that lasts all day long.

Update from future me – Hey there, I am updating this blog post in July 2019. A single pencil of this kajal has lasted me this long and there is still a fair amount of product left, even though it has detached from the pencil casing, it is still usable. This product is definitely worth the money considering how long it lasts!

Plum Hello Aloe Ultra Lite Day Lotion SPF 20 | Review

So Plum has recently been in the news for all the right reasons. It has now been approved by PETA for being cruelty-free and vegan, another feather added to the brand’s cap for providing clean and no-nonsense skincare at affordable prices. One of their excellent products for summer is the Plum Hello Aloe Ultra Lite Day Lotion, which I will be reviewing for all of you today.

Plum Hello Aloe Ultra Lite Day Lotion SPF 20 | Review

The Plum Ultra Lite Day Lotion contains the goodness of aloe vera and Vitamin E and provides hydration without being heavy or greasy. For the longest time, I thought that this product is an aloe vera gel, which is why I never purchased it. However, when I received a free sample of this product with my order, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is actually a cream based product, which I personally prefer during the day, and the SPF 20 makes it perfect for summers. Texturewise, I would say that it is somewhere in between a lotion and a cream, it is creamier than the Plum Green Tea Lotion but is not greasy, and should be suitable for dry to normal skin.

Plum Hello Aloe Ultra Lite Day Lotion SPF 20 | Review

As claimed by the brand, the product is indeed very gentle on the skin and is therefore suitable for those with sensitive skin. While aloe vera gel on its own is ideal for oily skinned people, the incorporation of the ingredient in this particular formula allows dry-skinned people to enjoy the benefits of aloe vera, which is very innovative in my opinion. Also, since I have a sample of the product, I got a tube, but the actual packaging of the full-sized product is in the form of a bottle with a pump which makes it completely utilitarian.

Plum Hello Aloe Ultra Lite Day Lotion SPF 20 | Review

Overall, I do not have anything negative to say about this product at all. If you are someone who enjoys light-weight skincare which is not laden with chemicals then this lotion will definitely become your favourite. So do try out this product and let me know how it worked for you!

Sugar Never Say Dry Creme Lipstick | Review and Swatches

Matte lipsticks are definitely my jam but sometimes my lips need something a little more hydrating, which is why I recently picked up 2 shades from the Sugar Never Say Dry Creme Lipstick Collection. I went for the shades 06 Raisin Helen and 07 Mauve Actually, and here is what I think about these lippies.

The formula of the Sugar Never Say Dry Creme Lipsticks is super creamy, soft, and intensely pigmented. It glides on the lips and provides even pigmentation in one swipe. The lipsticks have a slight sheen to them but are not too glossy and do not contain any shimmer. They are pretty buttery, and while they do not slide too much on the lips, application will be a little easier if you use a liner first.

The shade Raisin Helen is a beautiful yellow-toned brown which will be a nice deep nude for most Indian skin tones. It is warm toned without being rusty and is a great alternative to a pinky nude. On the other hand, the shade Mauve Actually is a much bolder colour which is a deep mauve, almost like a toned down version of a plum shade. This shade too will suit all Indian skin tones but will look better for an outing or special occasion than for daily wear.

Since the formula is not matte, it is obviously not super long-lasting, but it does stay put on the lips for a good 4-5 hours if you do not eat anything. It transfers while eating but fades pretty gracefully, leaving a light wash of colour behind. Also, my lips feel super nourished when I use these lipsticks, so I do not mind reapplying them every 4 hours or so. Priced at INR 499, these lipsticks are quite good for the price and the quality is really impressive, so do check out the shade range of this collection if you are on the hunt for creamy lipsticks.

Vya Naturals Activated Charcoal & Cedarwood Handmade Soap | Review

My Experience With The Product: This product is a lovely soap that emanates the refreshing scent of cedarwood that wakes me up every morning. The soaps lathers easily and the foam is greyish in colour, which reminds me of the charcoal powder we used to use for washing our hands back in the day. The ingredient list truly lives up to its claims and the soap is indeed extremely hydrating and softens the skin while detoxifying it. Not only does the product rejuvenate the skin, it keeps it fresh for long due to its deodorising properties and makes it easier to survive the scorching weather. This soap is also great for cleaning the face because it calms down acne and any skin irritation and does not leave a stretchy feeling on the skin. Ryaal Rosehip Seed Oil | Review

If you are an avid stalker of celebrity skincare secrets then you must have heard of the benefits of Rosehip Seed Oil by now. This multi-tasking skincare ingredient is what you need in your life if you are on the wrong side of 25 and your skin is beginning to age. To find out what the hype over this oil was all about, I recently picked up the Ryaal Rosehip Seed Oil and here is how this product fared for me.

Ryaal Rosehip Seed Oil | Review

This 100% pure rosehip seed essential oil comes in the classic Ryaal packaging – a blue bottle with a dropper. The product itself is a golden oil with a nutty fragrance that is not too thick and sinks into the skin pretty quickly. It does leave behind a slightly oily cast on the skin but nothing too stark – you can pair it with a mattifying day cream or foundation during the day and use it as a part of your moisturising routine at night without looking like a grease ball (unless you have extremely oily skin to begin with).

Coming to the properties of the product, rosehip seed oil indeed does it all! It is rich in fatty acids, Vitamin A and Vitamin C and acts as a moisturiser as well as a toner. I have been using this oil as a part of my moisturising routine (post toning) and have noticed its exfoliating properties already. It has a noticeable peeling action and I could see that my dead skin was flaking off faster than usual while my pimples seemed to dry up more quickly. My skin also looked smoother than usual, which could be due to the fact that rosehip seed oil diminishes pores and plumps up the skin to prevent the appearance of wrinkles. I know that it sounds too good to be true, but if you religiously incorporate this facial oil in your skincare routine then I am sure that you will observe such positive results too.

Ryaal Rosehip Seed Oil | Review

Overall, I do not have anything negative to say about this product. It is quite affordable at INR 289 for a 15ml bottle that will last you for months if used in the right quantity. My skin has been behaving really well since I started using this oil and it is perhaps the most enjoyable part of my skincare routine at the moment. If you have been suffering from dry or dull skin and are looking for a multi-tasking solution then you must try out this gem of a product!
