I recently won the Fresh Hair Anywhere giveaway hosted by Batiste India and received the Batiste Clean and Classic Original Dry Shampoo as the prize. The timing of winning this product was perfect because these days my hair is getting sweaty just a few hours after washing, thanks to the Indian summer.
This dry shampoo is as good as the other ones that I have tried from Batiste and has a fresh, borderline floral scent. You just need to spray some product on your greasy roots from a distance and massage it in for hair that can pass off as freshly washed. I have used it on really greasy and dirty hair and it did not disappoint at all. Frequent washing and blow-drying can make the hair dry and brittle but this dry shampoo makes it bouncy and slightly shinier too!
Bear in mind that the product is white in color, so brush it really well to get rid of the white cast. If you use the right amount, this should not take much effort. Overall I am quite pleased with this product and will definitely be using it throughout the summer. Priced at INR 649 for a 200ml can, it does not even burn a hole in the pocket, which is always a good thing. Do give this product a shot if you want to break out of the vicious cycle of washing your hair every single day!

A tiny bottle full of the goodness of olive oil arrived at my doorstep the other day. Yet another goodie from Qtrove! If you read my previous post then you will know that Qtrove sent me a few products to try out and this time it is the Areev Oil Of Olives Body Lotion. Qtrove is a wonderful curated online marketplace that showcases homemade and organic items produced on a small scale. They have a fantastic collection ranging from skincare to food items and I am sure you will find many interesting things on their website. Here are my thoughts on the Areev Body Lotion, a gem of a product indeed!
This lovely body lotion is quite lightweight and sinks into the skin very quickly. This is great because nobody likes the sticky and greasy feeling of heavy moisturizers. The lotion instantly softens and hydrates the skin and makes it super smooth. It has a pleasant herbal/natural smell that lingers on for hours after application. The fragrance is very soothing and the formula is specially designed for sensitive skin, therefore it is very gentle.
I also love the packaging of the product. The shape of the bottle and the unique design of the lid make it look very high-end. It is like a little bottle of potion that I have been unscrewing throughout the day to catch another whiff of the refreshing scent. I think I have found my favorite summer body lotion!
I am so glad that Qtrove provides the opportunity to discover these new brands whose products are even better than those of the established brands. All the products have that homely feeling to them that strikes a chord in my heart. I will definitely be trying out some more products from Qtrove soon!
You can buy the Areev Oil of Olives Body Lotion here, and while you are at it, do check out the other products available on Qtrove’s online store too!

Have you ever been bothered by the amount of money you spend on your waxing appointments? Such a recurring expenditure might be concerning for many. Also, booking an appointment and clearing your schedule for the same is quite inconvenient. Another problem faced by some people is that if the wax is even a tad too hot, they suffer from a lot of ingrown hair after waxing.
Shaving and hair removal creams are good alternatives for affordable hair removal at home, but their effects are short-lived and you will be greeted by a sharp stubble within a few days. I personally prefer the Veet Full Body Waxing Kit to get rid of my body hair whenever I want to.
This handy kit contains 20 wax strips (2 strips are stuck together to protect the waxy side), and 4 oil wipes to remove the wax and hydrate the skin post waxing. You need to rub each pair of strips between your hands to warm the wax and then you can proceed with waxing as per the usual method. These wax strips effectively remove the hair and one strip stays sticky for up to 4-5 applications. Therefore, I never need more than 8 strips for my legs and arms. Since this kit of 20 strips is priced at INR 170, you can do the math to see how much more affordable they are as compared to a waxing session in a salon.
A few tricks that will help you with effective hair removal are to always place the strip in the direction of the hair growth and pull back in the opposite direction. Everybody’s hair grows differently, so make sure to follow the growth of your hair. Secondly, pull off the strips in one swift motion to ensure that all the hair is removed. Thirdly, if some stubborn hairs are not budging then bring out your tweezers and pluck them out. Lastly, store these strips in a relatively cool place to ensure that they don’t get overly sticky. If you follow these simple tips then you will get super smooth skin at home.
I find that this kit gives me comparable results to salons, with lesser pain and irritation. It helps to remove the dead skin and tan as well. The only issue is that since two strips are stuck together you can’t use an odd number of strips, and sometimes while you are working with one strip, the other one flies away! Other than this minor problem, I find that this waxing kit is perfect for regular use and also for touch-ups when you are too busy or traveling.

The perfect face product is one that removes dead skin and blemishes without leaving the skin parched and bruised. The Votre Microdermabrasion Cream offers effective exfoliation while leaving your skin soft and hydrated. This is a treat for the skin and is a great product for pampering the face with something that feels luxurious, but isn’t that expensive either.
To use this product, massage it for a few seconds on damp skin, using circular motions. You will be able to feel the gentle scrubbing action and some of the product will get absorbed into the skin. After around 1 minute, wash it off with warm water. You will be surprised at the softness of your skin after just one use.
The texture of the product is like a gel with tiny particles embedded in it. The formula contains nourishing and brightening ingredients, such as aloe vera and licorice extract. It has a slight smell of chemicals but nothing that lingers on the skin. Unfortunately, I have the old jar packaging but they have now released a new packaging, which is in the shape of a white tube. I think the tube will be easier to use and more hygienic too!
Priced at INR 790 for a 30ml tube, this product is excellent for using once a week to get rid of stubborn pigmentation. It is dermatologically tested and suitable for all types of skin. A little goes a long way with this product and by the time you finish the tube, your skin will be in much better shape.

Does anyone still use soap for cleansing the face? I personally prefer a face wash because it is easier to travel with and seems more hygienic. To be honest, I only purchased the Vaadi Herbals Strawberry Facial Bar because I wanted to get rid of the shipping charges on my Nykaa order. Since I bought it, I have been using it and here is my review of this product.
I was primarily attracted to this soap because of the word Strawberry, and the product does live up to its claim on this front. It has a pleasing, sweet strawberry scent that literally fills up my bathroom, you won’t need a room freshener if you purchase this product! In terms of performance, it does seem gentler than the regular soaps and leaves the skin looking bright and refreshed. It gets rid of the oil really well, in fact, its cleansing action is so strong that I would not recommend this for dry skin. It also claims to reduce pigmentation, however, I have not seen much improvement in that area.
The first thing that disappointed me about this product as soon as it arrived was its size. It is so tiny! Here is a pic that compares its size to that of a lip balm. Agreed that the price of INR 30 is not a lot but I was still expecting something bigger. Perhaps the great ingredients it contains, such as strawberry and grapeseed extracts and almond oil, are the reason for the high price. In any case, the small size makes it harder to work with, although the bar does not dissolve much and is quite long lasting.
I won’t be repurchasing this product simply because I prefer a liquid face wash. However, if you like solid cleansers and are ok with spending 30 bucks on this tiny bar then it is excellent at keeping the oil at bay throughout the day.
If you want to keep only one eyeshadow in your makeup collection then go for a brownish golden shade. This color is the most flattering on all skin tones and can be applied all over the lid for a simple eye makeup look. Here is a look that I created in less than 2 minutes, using only two products, a bronze eyeshadow and an eyeliner.
This look is so simple yet versatile. You can wear it to work or even to a party with a nice lipstick. If you have sensitive eyes or do not like shimmer in general then you can opt for a matte brown or bronze shade instead. However, I personally prefer some subtle shimmer.
I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in the shade 25 Bad To The Bronze for this look. This eyeshadow has been a favorite of beauty bloggers for several years. It comes in a pot full of almost solid, cream eyeshadow that blends beautifully with the fingers. It sticks to the lids and does not budge all day, no primer needed. You can use it on its own all over the lid or can also use it as a base color for more elaborate looks.
I highly recommend investing in a pigmented cream eyeshadow that does not require any fancy tools for application. Just add a touch of eyeliner and your makeup will look so put together without requiring any effort at all. This is my trick for the hectic days when I can’t spend more than 5 minutes in getting ready.

As hard as it may sound to moisturize each day, particularly during the hot summer months, it is essential for healthy, glowing skin. What is even more essential is a high enough SPF to protect your face from the summer sun. Lazy me likes to combine both the steps and I always prefer day creams that have an SPF. I recently tried out the VLCC Depigmentation Day Cream and here are my thoughts about it.
This day cream lies somewhere between a creamy and thick consistency. A small amount is sufficient for the whole face and you will need to massage it in to prevent a white cast. Once absorbed by the skin, it leaves the face feeling supple and hydrated the entire day. I am not too sure about its depigmentation qualities but it does brighten the skin with regular usage.
The formula has SPF 25, which is quite high for a day cream and eliminates the need for a sunscreen if you are exposed to direct sunlight only for a few minutes each day. It also contains some great ingredients such as mulberry extract, turmeric, and glycolic acid, which are known to work wonders for troubled skin. The cream has quite a strong, sweet smell that might bother some people but I am pretty fine with it.
A 50 gm tub of this cream is priced at INR 405, which is quite reasonable as this tub lasted me for a really long time. The packaging is also very unique and looks cute stacked up with the other products from the range. Overall, I would say that this is a good cream for those with dry to combination skin, as it might be a little too greasy for oily skin types. It evens out the skin tone quite well without being harsh on the delicate skin of the face. A great day cream for the summer months!
I got the Nykaa Pastel Nail Enamel in the shade #73 Lilac Cupcake as a birthday perk with my purchase from Nykaa.com, and it arrived just in time for spring. You know that a nail paint is good if you apply the same color twice in a row, and that is what happened with this beautiful periwinkle blue nail color.
What impressed me the most about this formula is the opacity that it provides in just one coat. I do throw on a second coat for good measure but you can definitely get away with just one. I do not need to say much about the color because it speaks for itself. A milky, pastel blue that is nothing like anything else I own. This color is subtle but bright at the same time and looks really good on the toes as well!
The formula provides a medium shine and has a wear time of 4-5 days. The pastel range is my favorite among all the Nykaa nails paints, the colors are unique and beautiful. Priced at INR 179 for a 9 ml bottle, this is the perfect nail color for a beach vacation!
An annoying thing about some lip balms is that they can be quite thick and can cling to the chapped portions of the lips. Not a pretty look for lips that are already dry and damaged. If you face this problem with your lip balms then you might want to give the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Lip Balm a shot. Bear in mind that this lip balm is expensive and will set you back INR 490 for 4.7ml of the product, so if you are happy with your current lip balm then there is no need to spend so much money. However, if you feel that most lip balms do not sit right on your lips then this investment might be worth it.
The formula is super nourishing and has a slightly oily feel to it, but in a good way. It gets absorbed quickly and leaves a very thin layer of the product on the lips that stays there for 4-5 hours. It is a transparent lip balm that imparts a natural shine to the lips without exaggerating the cracks and patches. I would not recommend applying a lip color on top of this one because things could get a little slippery. It is better to use this on the no makeup days or as an overnight lip treatment.
The lip balm has some great ingredients such as shea butter, glycerin, and vitamin E and does not contain any parabens. The formula also contains the famous Vichy Thermal Spa Water and is hypoallergenic, making it perfect for those with super sensitive lips. I like the mild fragrance and the light texture of this lip balm for the summer months and it has become a staple for me. Other than the price which is quite steep, this could be a game changer for those of you whose lips simply do not cooperate!
Sometimes the nude lip colors can be a bit too pale or brown. There are days when you need your lips to look naturally healthy and have a slightly reddish undertone. The Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in the shade 122 Stylish will not disappoint you on such occasions.
I am a huge fan of the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipsticks in general as they are incredibly moisturizing yet stay on the lips for quite some time. This shade is no exception and I do not need to reapply for 3-4 hours. The formula is quite smooth and provides a semi-opaque finish in one swipe. It is a dusty red color with multi-colored shimmer that looks quite subtle on the lips.
I reach for this shade when I do not want a very bold look but don’t want my lips to look pale either. You can get away without a lip balm with this product, provided that you do not have severely chapped lips. It offers mild hydration and has a sweet, coconutty scent.
The best part about this lipstick is that it is priced at only INR 250! I think that the Rimmel lipsticks are quite underrated in India. They offer unmatchable quality for the price and come in a ton of different colors and finishes. Do give this one a try if you are looking for a comfortable to wear, foolproof nude red lipstick.
If you have been following my blog for some time then you must be aware that the only boon that I seek from the Hair Gods is that of volume. It seems that the Gods have finally answered my prayers in the form of the Batiste Stylist XXL Volume Spray. This finishing spray is primarily marketed as a backcombing spray and claims to be a volume booster, and (drum rolls please) it actually works!
You are supposed to spray it evenly on the roots and then work the hair with your fingers or a teasing brush to create a ton of volume that lasts all day long. I have tried this product in the sweaty Indian summer months and it really maintains the volume of the hair and curbs the greasiness. I don’t think that it is publicized as a dry shampoo but in my opinion, it is basically a dry shampoo that also supplies an insane amount of volume at the roots. It absorbs oil and imparts a pleasant fragrance that lasts for a few days.
To derive the maximum benefits from this product, make sure to start with a little amount and then spray on more as per your need. The product is white in color and if you are not cautious with how much you use, you may end up with a grayish cast. The correct amount, however, blends in quite well and only leaves behind a slightly gritty and matte texture on the hair. Bear in mind that this is a volumizing spray and you will not be able to achieve a super shiny hair look with this one. Priced at INR 749 for a 200 ml bottle that will take care of your hair game for several months, this hair spray will definitely become your favorite if you suffer from fine and limp hair.

Amidst all the matte lip colors and liquid lipsticks, the humble lipgloss might get neglected but still holds an important position in my makeup drawer. There are those days when the lips are too dry or pigmented and simply do not cooperate with a matte finish product, a lipgloss is what emerges a hero on such occasions. It is extremely hard to find the perfect nude lip gloss for medium Indian skin tones, especially one from an international brand. The Loreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss in the shade 110 I Got The Power is not just the perfect nude gloss for medium skin tones but is also extremely flattering on fair and deep complexions.
I personally do not like shimmery or glittery glosses for daily use. The glitter goes everywhere and does not really suit my face. This one is a cream formula, which is glossy but not shimmery at all, although they do have a few shimmery glosses in this range as well. The shade is the perfect pinkish brown that can be worn to work or even for a night out, thanks to the subtle shine that it provides.
The doe foot applicator picks up just the right amount of product which provides a semi-opaque finish in one coat. I would not recommend going for a second coat because that can get a bit messy. The formula is not sticky and is quite hydrating, in fact, it feels like a slightly heavy lip balm on the lips. It lasts for around 2-3 hours but you can extend the wear time by a couple of hours with the help of a nude lip liner. However, on most days I simply apply it directly to my bare lips and keep reapplying every few hours. The formula has a mild, sweet scent that lingers on throughout the wear time.
An 8 ml tube of this product is priced at INR 850 but you can grab it for around INR 600 online. It is still on the pricey side but I am willing to pay the price for the lovely color and the high-end packaging.
It is the perfect choice for the days when you are going for a no makeup – makeup look, and want something easy for the lips. Pair it with nude eye makeup for an amazing monochromatic effect. If you want to keep only one lip gloss in your collection then I would highly recommend this one!
