Kanai Organics Nail Paint | Review and Swatches

Have you ever sat and counted the number of objects your fingertips touch in a day? Not only do your fingers touch your food, face and clothes, if you have a baby in the house then your fingers touch your baby too. This is why a non-toxic nail paint is the need of the hour, and Kanai Organics has fulfilled this with their range of “8 Free” Nail Paints. These nail paints do not contain the most common toxic elements present in most nail polish formulas, namely Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, Xylene, DBP, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, and TPHP.

Kanai Organics Nail Paint | Review and Swatches

Before I get into reviewing the colours and the formula, here is a word about toxic nail paints by the brand itself-

“Studies have shown that the body can absorb traces of chemicals applied on nails, with ingredients like Formaldehyde (used as a nail hardener) being a proven carcinogen. Triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) is known to be a hormone disruptor (on prolonged exposure) while dibutyl phthalate (DBP) has been linked to reproductive abnormalities. At Kanai, we remain committed to the ‘detoxification’ of products and are proud to say that none of our nail paints are made with this toxic trio and are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Now available in India and soon to be launched globally, you can now enjoy your favourite colour varnish without worrying about its effects on your health.”

Fuchsia

The Kanai Organics Nail Paints come in a range of 6 shades – Bubblegum (A bright pink), Fuchsia (A Neon Fuchsia), White (No explanation needed :P), Kanai Blue (Blue like the brand’s logo), Pienk (A pretty floral pink), and Camellia (A baby pink). These nail paints come in 11ml bottles with a thick brush that covers the entire nail in a couple of strokes. They are priced at INR 450 each, which is undoubtedly on the expensive side, but the formula somehow justifies the price for me.

Not only are these nail paints non-toxic, they also have a very quick-drying formula which dries up completely within a minute or two and the pigmentation provides an opaque semi-matte finish in 2-3 coats. They last for a good 5 days on the nails with minimal chipping and can be removed effortlessly without any stain left behind on the nails. They also do not have the strong chemical scent that many nail polishes possess. All the shades are beautiful feminine colours that are true to how they look in the bottle, but the pastel shades are my personal favourites from the range as they add a muted pop to the fingertips.

Camellia

Overall, I have nothing negative to say about this range of nail paints and hope that they bring out more shades in the future. The price is a little steep, but if you want something truly non-toxic and safe for your skin then Kanai Organics is a brand that you can blindly trust. You must try at least one shade from the brand, I am sure you will fall in love!

Maybelline Color Show / Cheeky Glow Blush – Fresh Coral | Review and Swatches

You know that a product is a cult classic when a brand keeps manufacturing it for years and years and today I will talk about one such product. I am not a huge blush wearer but if there is one blush that I always swear by, it is the Maybelline Cheeky Glow Blush in the shade Fresh Coral. I still have the old packaging of this product although it seems that it has now been rebranded and repackaged as the Maybelline Color Show Blush. The shades and the formula remain the same though, so my review holds true for both the Cheeky Glow and the Color Show versions (so much confusion though!).

Maybelline Color Show / Cheeky Glow Blush - Fresh Coral | Review and Swatches

The shade Fresh Coral is true to its name. It is a warm pinkish coral with muted orange undertones. I feel that this type of a coral shade suits Indian skin tones more than the true pinks. I use this color on my cheeks for a nice coral flush and sometimes mix it in with a bronzer to create a blush cum contour. I also use it on my eyes as an eye shadow that gives a nice feminine touch to my makeup.

The formula is a very soft powder that does not have much chalkiness to it. It blends like a dream on the skin and you can build up the color up to the desired pigmentation without your cheeks looking cakey. I love the super adorable and dinky packaging and would buy this product just for the cuteness factor although it performs really well too.

Here is a picture of me wearing this blush as an eyeshadow on the outer corners of my lids. The powder works really well with a foundation or concealer underneath and stays put all day long.

Soft Pink Makeup

This product is priced at INR 299 and is one of the most affordable and amazing blushes in the market. Its texture is perfect and you don’t really need anything more expensive unless you are on the hunt for a specific shade. The Maybelline Color Show Blushes are also available in two more shades, Peachy Sweetie, which is a cooler pink, and Creamy Cinnamon which has brown undertones. I am eyeing Creamy Cinnamon next to use as a contour (check out my Blush as a Contour post to find out how!) but if you are looking for a warmer pink blush then Fresh Coral will not disappoint!

I hope that this review was helpful. You can buy all the three shades of the Maybelline Color Show Blush here.

Philips HP8695/00 5 in 1 Multi-Styler | Review

The monsoon season, more than any other time of the year, makes it difficult to tame the hair without the use of heat. If your hair tends to become frizzy and unmanageable in a humid environment then you may want to look at the hair styling tools available in the market. The most difficult decision when it comes to buying a hair styling tool is whether to opt for a straightener or a curler. The Philips HP8595/00 5 in 1 Multi Styler helps resolve this dilemma by coming with multiple ceramic coated attachments with which you can obtain curls, waves, ringlets, as well as crimped and straightened hair. I have been using this styler for a couple of years now, so here is my detailed review of each of the attachments.

Philips 5 in 1 Multi Styler HP8695/00 Review

Straightener – The first attachment that this multi styler comes with is a flat straightener. To use the device as a straightener, you need to insert the white plates into the black casing, with the flat surfaces exposed, and then attach and lock the casing to the pink handle by sliding over the metal rod. Now plug in and wait for the straightener to heat up, this takes approximately 3-5 minutes. Bear in mind that the maximum temperature provided by any attachment is 190 degrees Celsius; this is relatively on the lower side and prevents the hair from getting severely damaged due to the heat. Although the lower temperature setting means that the straightener is gentle, it also implies that the straightening action is not very intense. The straightener is good for taming the hair and removing stubborn kinks, but do not expect poker straight hair with this attachment. You can also use this one to create playful flicks at the ends of your hair but make sure to use some hair spray to make them last all day.

Philips 5 in 1 Multi Styler Straightener Crimper Review

Crimper – To use this tool as a crimper, simply invert the arrangement that you created for the straightener such that the sides of the plates with the triangular ridges are exposed. These ridges help in creating a crimped effect when you press them over the desired section of the hair. The crimps are more prominent if you use the crimper after straightening your hair. The thinner the section of the hair you choose, the more effectively the crimper will work. The effect will last on the hair for 2-3 hours without a spray but I will recommend using a spray to make the effect more dramatic. This is by far my favorite feature of this product because it imparts a unique texture to the hair.

Philips 5 in 1 Multi Styler Curler Review

Curler – My second most favorite feature of this tool is the 16 mm rod that creates perfect ringlets. This too works better with thinner sections of hair because of the lower temperature settings. The ringlets may look a bit too curly in the beginning but tend to drop within a few minutes. Also, to create more natural looking waves, you can use the black spiral attachment which helps to increase the spacing between the curls. Although I do not use this attachment much, it will be useful for beginners who are working with a curling rod for the first time.

Besides the attachments, this styling kit comes with a handy pouch, which makes the storage of this tool very convenient. The price of the kit is approximately INR 4,000 but you can buy it for INR 3,000 on Amazon.com. I would recommend purchasing this styling kit if you like to experiment with different hairstyles but do not have the budget to invest in separate tools for each look. If you wish to achieve a salon finish at home then the straightener might disappoint you but if you are fine with a more natural look then you will find this kit very useful and versatile.

I hope that this review was useful. Do stay tuned to my Instagram page where I will be sharing some pictures of the hairstyles that I create using the Philips 5 in 1 Multi-Styler.

Primark PS Highlighter | Review and Swatches

Today I am going to talk about yet another product that I won as a part of Andrea’s amazing giveaway. I feel like a lucky girl indeed! This product is the Primark PS Highlighter Stick, a soft pink cream-based highlighter with golden shimmer.

IMG_8334.JPG

I enjoy products that come in a stick because they are very easy to carry around. This particular highlighter is not only perfect for on the go application but it also provides a lovely golden sheen to the cheeks that is ideal for daily wear. The pink undertones do not really show up on my skin but the even wash of golden gives a wonderful glow.

IMG_8355

Unfortunately, the summer heat has made the product a little sticky, but once blended in it works just fine. This product is not available in India but for those who have a Primark in the vicinity, this highlighter stick priced at £1.50 is a great choice for day to day usage.

Loreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss – 110 I Got The Power | Review

Amidst all the matte lip colors and liquid lipsticks, the humble lipgloss might get neglected but still holds an important position in my makeup drawer. There are those days when the lips are too dry or pigmented and simply do not cooperate with a matte finish product, a lipgloss is what emerges a hero on such occasions. It is extremely hard to find the perfect nude lip gloss for medium Indian skin tones, especially one from an international brand. The Loreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss in the shade 110 I Got The Power is not just the perfect nude gloss for medium skin tones but is also extremely flattering on fair and deep complexions.

IMG_7369

I personally do not like shimmery or glittery glosses for daily use. The glitter goes everywhere and does not really suit my face. This one is a cream formula, which is glossy but not shimmery at all, although they do have a few shimmery glosses in this range as well. The shade is the perfect pinkish brown that can be worn to work or even for a night out, thanks to the subtle shine that it provides.

IMG_7383.JPG

The doe foot applicator picks up just the right amount of product which provides a semi-opaque finish in one coat. I would not recommend going for a second coat because that can get a bit messy. The formula is not sticky and is quite hydrating, in fact, it feels like a slightly heavy lip balm on the lips. It lasts for around 2-3 hours but you can extend the wear time by a couple of hours with the help of a nude lip liner. However, on most days I simply apply it directly to my bare lips and keep reapplying every few hours. The formula has a mild, sweet scent that lingers on throughout the wear time.

IMG_7397.JPG

An 8 ml tube of this product is priced at INR 850 but you can grab it for around INR 600 online. It is still on the pricey side but I am willing to pay the price for the lovely color and the high-end packaging.

IMG_7278.JPG

It is the perfect choice for the days when you are going for a no makeup – makeup look, and want something easy for the lips. Pair it with nude eye makeup for an amazing monochromatic effect. If you want to keep only one lip gloss in your collection then I would highly recommend this one!

Here is a look that I created using the gloss.

Perfect Pout for Valentine’s Day: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Sultry

A couple of you commented on my Valentine’s Day makeup post that you really liked the lip color, so I decided to write a dedicated post about it. I was wearing the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in the shade 225 Sultry, a perfect pink for Valentine’s Day.

IMG_6453.JPG

I have already reviewed another shade from this range in a previous post but this particular shade looks much more flattering on a wider range of skin tones. Sultry has the minty smell and tingling sensation that is characteristic of this range but is more creamy and forgiving than the shade Elusive.

IMG_6463.JPG

The color is a deep, dusty pink that is an almost nude pink for my skin tone. The fact that the formula lasts for at least 6 hours on the lips makes it ideal for when you are out and about. It is perfect for both work and play and pairs well with a wide selection of outfits. Bear in mind that this is a matte formula that demands moisturized and scrubbed lips to work its magic.

IMG_6477.JPG

I must say that the folks at Revlon know how to get their lip products right. There is not one lip product from the brand that has disappointed me yet.

Grab this lip crayon for INR 950 to recreate this romantic look for Valentine’s Day. It is a must have color for the upcoming spring and summer months!
