Trendy Kurtis From Oomph In My Closet | Review

I am usually wary of buying clothes from new online brands because of my worries regarding the sizing and the quality of the clothes. However, when the lovely folks from Oomph In My Closet approached me, I couldn’t resist saying yes to their trendy kurtis that are definitely fashion forward and unique at the same time. I have realised over the years that the pieces of clothing that I really love and re-use the most are the ones that are not the standard styles that are “in” at the moment but a different take on them, and the kurtis from Oomph fit this description perfectly!

img_1938.jpg

I loved the fabric of these kurtis because it is light weight and smooth – aka perfect for the summers. I am a size XS in the brand and this is a comfortable fit for me, which I prefer as opposed to body hugging kurtis, especially in the sultry weather. I love the fact that the brand combines unique colours, patterns, and prints with latest trends such as tassels and ties, to create offbeat designs that are not cheap replicas of designer wear.

IMG_1951.JPG

Pricewise, these kurtis are quite affordable, with most designs being priced at INR 700-800 on Flipkart. This is a great price because the popular brands provide kurtis of similar quality at around INR 1200. So this brand definitely gets a big thumbs up from me and I am already eyeing more pieces from their range.

Head over to their Instagram page now to add some Oomph to your closets too!

How I Style My Black Outfits In Summer

Black is hands-down the most flattering colour for all body types and skin tones, however, styling black outfits in the summer months can be tricky, especially during the day. Nevertheless, this does not make me ditch my black ensembles on warm days because I know that they are some of the best pieces in my wardrobe. Here is how I recently styled a black dress for a summer brunch, to make sure that I don’t look completely out of place and inappropriately dressed for the weather.

IMG_1200

To keep things easy and breezy, I went for a black dress with a looser silhouette and floral cutouts from Shein.com. This loose-fitting style is definitely more weather appropriate than say a bodycon dress in a dark colour. I also didn’t want to sport an all black, wintery look, so I added a splash of colour with a beautiful tassel necklace from Ajio.com and a pair of matching blue earrings. I also sported a bright fuchsia lip that definitely shouts spring.

IMG_1230.JPG

I would have loved to pair some colourful pom-pom sandals with the outfit but since I don’t own any, I went with the golden flats from Ajio.com which are also quite summer-appropriate. Flats add a casual vibe to the dress, which would look quite formal with heels, and the gold definitely adds a fun element to the outfit.

IMG_1219.JPG

Overall, I was super happy with the final look and would definitely sport it again on a sunny day. Are you someone who loves their black dresses all year round? Leave me a high five in the comments if you are!

The One With The Pink Dress

So Valentine’s Day came and went by and I did not post a Valentine’s Day look. This was because I was busy adulting on the actual day, however, the hubby and I did manage to sneak in a V-day date the weekend after, and here is what I wore to our better-late-than-never-Valentine’s date.

IMG_0925.JPG

Since the weather is still fluctuating between chilly and warm, I chose to wear this pink knitted swing dress from Shein.in (purchase link). I chose the size XS, which was a little loose for me, I belted it in the picture for a better fitting, but it can be worn without a belt for a casual day out when you prefer a comfier outfit.

IMG_0930.JPG

I kept the makeup simple because I was heading out during the day. Keeping with the Valentine’s theme, I went for a soft pink look. On my lips I wore the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Zurich, and on my eyes I used the frosty pink Browbone shade from the Wet n Wild Petal Pusher Palette. I deepened the crease with the bronzer shade from the Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in the shade Medium and added a thin wing and mascara, and voila, I was done. I did not use a foundation and just dabbed some Maybelline Fit Me Concealer on my spots and under eye area because I wanted my skin to breathe. I was quite happy with the finished look for the daytime, and would definitely wear the look again for a Sunday brunch.

IMG_0932.JPG

I hope that you liked this simple look for an easy breezy day out. This is perfect for when you do not want to wear a full face of makeup but don’t want to head out sans makeup either. What is your go-to look for an afternoon outing? What did you do for V-day? Let me know in the comments below!

My Diwali OOTD – A Sari With A Story

So yesterday was Diwali and I was all dolled up like thousands of women around India. This Diwali was extra special because I chose to wear a sari that has a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, my mom had a stunning peacock blue silk sari with shiny silver embroidery which I loved so much that I coaxed her to wear it on every special occasion. When I was shopping for my wedding trousseau, I spotted the exact color combination in this marvelous georgette number, and as soon as I set my eyes on it, I knew that I had to buy it to have my very own version of my mom’s sari.

WP_20171019_011.jpg

Luckily, even though I purchased this sari without trying it on, it drapes like a dream because of the light georgette material and the fabric is so easy to wear throughout the day. This is definitely the most comfortable sari that I own and the most beautiful too. I first wore this sari at a puja at my in-law’s place that was one of the rituals once I had entered their house as a new bride, which made this sari even more special for me and something that I will always cherish no matter how worn out it becomes.

WP_20171019_015.jpg

This Diwali, I paired it with some huge silver chandbalis (which I love) and kept the rest of my jewelry fairly simple because I did not want to look too overdressed even though it was a festive occasion. Since I had to sport this look from the day till the night, I went with a silver-blue eyeshadow on the lids which matches the sari without being too over the top and kept the rest of my face matte and neutral. I also tied up my hair in a low bun to make the earrings more prominent.

WP_20171019_019.jpg

So this was my look for Diwali and I was super pleased with this whole look, if I may say so myself, and can’t wait to wear this beloved sari yet again because I can’t seem to get enough of it!

What did you wear this Diwali? Also, do you have a piece of clothing that you have a sentimental bond with? Let me know in the comments below!

Athleisure – What This Trend Is All About

The latest buzz in the fashion industry is to add an element of comfort to clothes, without compromising on design. Practical yet stylish clothing is the mantra of this season and people are embracing it with open arms. From the airport to the boardroom, one can spot a switch towards fabrics that allow the skin to breathe and yet leave room for expressing an individual’s personality. This trend of incorporating sportswear inspired attire in the daily wardrobe is aptly termed as Athleisure, a name that it is here to stay.

Athleisure goes way beyond simply wearing your Yoga pants to work; it is essentially overhauling the definition of business casual clothing. Some common instances of Athleisure, which have carved a niche for themselves as acceptable wardrobe choices, are wearing sneakers with dresses and sporting bralettes with a pair of jeans for a casual day out. However, if you dig deeper, Athleisure has also encouraged brands to bring out casual collections that use stretchable and comfortable fabrics, such as Lycra and spandex. These materials that were once restricted to athletic wear are taking the market by storm. From t-shirts to leggings, they offer a new level of comfort that was formerly associated only with sports apparel.

Athleisure - What This Trend Is All About

Cute silk pajamas are rapidly being replaced by more practical loungewear, such as tank tops and spandex leggings. With innumerable colors and patterns hitting the stores, these outfits provide an added bonus that you can step out of the house without changing. As the SoulCycle co-founder, Julie Rice, expressed in an interview with Vogue [1] “It’s a trend. People of all ages are wearing their workoutwear all day now, whether it’s leggings with a longer coat and a scarf, or someone younger wearing a cropped T-shirt with a denim jacket and some high-heeled boots. People shop for their athleticwear thinking, How can I wear this from the studio to the street?”.

Even in a business environment, more and more companies are slackening their dress codes to make them flexible and convenient for the employees. While track pants and t-shirts were frowned upon just a decade ago, they are pretty ubiquitous this year in the modern workplace. In fact, the work environment is where Athleisure can make the hugest difference. Sweat absorbent and odor-resistant fabrics can really help a busy executive as he or she wrestles with mounds of work round the clock. Ergonomic yet aesthetically pleasing, Athleisure is the harbinger of a revolution in the workplace – a shift in the mindset of corporate giants. The days of judging a professional by the crispness of his shirt and the perfection of his Windsor knot are slowly but surely disappearing.

Athleisure - What This Trend Is All About

Not only is Athleisure a sensible choice, it is a fashionable one too. Check out the Instagram pictures of any fashionista and you will notice elements of sportswear mixed and matched with high fashion items. Jennifer Bandier, the owner of the active fashion game changer BANDIER, mentioned in a conversation with shape.com[2] “The fashion industry is inspired by today’s ‘it-girls’ and tastemakers who wear leggings all the time, pair Nike sneakers with dresses and incorporate active, bodycon components into their overall look,”. Bandier has hit the bull’s eye as to why Athleisure has become such a massive rage in such a short span of time. After all, if your favorite fashion diva can rock those leggings to a brunch with the girls then why shouldn’t you?

The key question that arises is, how much is too much? There is a thin line between looking casual chic and looking like you had to make a mad dash from the gym to the office. The secret lies in not going too overboard and adding just a sprinkle of sportswear to your outfit. Take a cue from the latest obsession of mixing high-end and low-end pieces in one look. A well-fitted jacket or a beautiful choker can instantly elevate a casual outfit and can make it look way more put together. The right accessories go a long way in transforming you from a sweaty mess to a show stopper, as explained by stylist Rob Zangardi in his conversation with Vogue [3], “A pair of mirrored sunglasses, a structured leather jacket, a shirt tied around the waist . . . the key is that the piece has a sleek, sporty feel itself. Don’t add a vintage fringed jacket to your Lululemon Wunder Unders or cat-eye sunnies to your zip-up Nike jacket.” Also, stick with the neutral shades for work, black, gray and white leggings are way more appropriate than neon pink ones, which are better suited for a casual outing.

Athleisure is one trend that, when mastered, can make styling outfits an extremely easy job. It is this simplicity that has appealed to the masses, making Athleisure a global phenomenon. From the United States of America to China [4], Athleisure has spread its wings over the planet and it is not going anywhere. If anything, it is beginning to leave its imprint on formal attire as well. The amalgamation of active wear and glamor seems to be the next big leap for Athleisure, and it is already making its presence felt in the world of high fashion. Red Carpet dresses and haute couture inspired by gym wear is not as far-fetched a prediction as one may think.

Combining the luxurious element of high-end fashion with the breathability of sportswear is the direction which Athleisure seems to be approaching. Gowns with mesh details, sneakers embellished with studs, and bomber jackets made with silk are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the potential of this groundbreaking trend. If there is a way to look fashionable that does not involve straps digging into the flesh and corsets sucking the air out of the stomach, there are bound to be many takers. Perhaps, with time, the word leisure will get dropped from the equation as athletic wear starts to make an appearance at all occasions ranging from job interviews to formal galas!

My Experience Shopping On Shein.in

These days, online shopping websites are sprouting up like mushrooms on growth hormones! While I prefer sticking to the tried and tested websites (read Amazon, Nykaa, Jabong etc), the ads for Shein.in that were popping up on all the web pages that I visited lured me into placing a purchase. For those of you who are not aware, Shein is an international online shopping website for clothing which seems to have launched its Indian version recently (as far as I know). They have an amazing collection of international designs in dresses, tops, shoes, and accessories but what excited me the most was this blue and white porcelain print pencil dress.

Shein Blue and White Porcelain Print Pencil Dress

This gorgeous dress is a proper body con fit. I went for the size S while I am usually an XS because the fabric is quite figure hugging. I would recommend going a size up if you choose to order this and let me also warn you not to wear this on days when you intend to gorge on a buffet meal! The fit of this dress is very snug, which makes it a great candidate for when you wish to flaunt some curves. Meanwhile, the blue and white porcelain print is perfect for summer and gives me the holiday vibes. I like the quality of this dress although I would have preferred the material to be slightly thicker – it is a little sheerer than I had expected but nothing too transparent. Also, I would have liked the dress to be a couple of inches shorter, I can get it altered but because it is a pencil fit, it tends to ride up the legs when I sit down, therefore I might leave the length as it is.

Shein Blue and White Porcelain Print Pencil Dress

This dress is priced at INR 845 on the Shein website but I had to pay INR 926 due to shipping charges. Shipping is free on orders above INR 2600 and I think you can get a discount of INR 200 on your first purchase if it is above a certain amount. The dress reached me in approximately a week after placing the order, which is quite impressive since the product was shipped from Hong Kong. The site accepts all forms of payment, including Cash on Delivery with a nominal charge. Overall, I am quite impressed with the quality of the site, the dress, and the customer service and am glad that I chose to try out a new website. This dress will definitely join me on various vacations and brunches!

Currently, I am lusting over this gorgeous embroidered dress from Shein.

Summer Date Night Outfit Ideas

Choosing a comfortable yet stylish outfit is always a hard task, especially during the summer months. When getting ready for a date, you want your skin to breathe but do not want to look too casual either. I recently styled a summer date night outfit inspired by the cute lingerie sets from Adore Me. Their collection is incredibly feminine yet comfortable, which gave me the idea to slip into this deep turquoise lace dress that is comfy yet chic.

IMG_8925.JPG

The subtle see-through elements at the sleeves and the hemline add to the feminity of the dress and the body-con fit accentuates the figure perfectly. The fabric is very comfortable and stretchable, making it ideal for the sultry heat. In the summer, I want my feet to be comfortable too, therefore I went for these chunky brown heels that add a bit of height without being hard to walk in.

IMG_8966.JPG I chose a breezy, ruffled hairstyle that wouldn’t be difficult to maintain and used a few simple golden accessories to add a formal touch to the look. A gold cuff and a gold clutch complement the color of the dress really well and also provide a glam quotient. You can even opt for a sling bag if you prefer those.

IMG_9035-001.JPG

For my makeup, I wanted something simple, with a pop of color. I chose a matte foundation and a nude lip gloss and added the color in the form of a gorgeous duo chrome eyeshadow. I can wear this outfit and makeup all day/night long without feeling sweaty or uncomfortable. With the right amount of mixing and matching, you can make sure that you do not have to compromise on elegance even in the summer months!

What is your go to summer date night outfit? Let me know in the comments below!

Birthday OOTD

So it was my birthday yesterday and I thought that a birthday OOTD was in order. I was going out in the daytime but staying out till night, therefore I needed an outfit that would transition well from day to night. However, the outfit needed to be a little special because a birthday arrives only once each year. So here is what I wore on my birthday.

IMG_6989.JPG

White is a great color for both night and day, so I chose this sheer white sleeveless shirt with plenty of bling provided by the golden beads. I paired it with my favorite pair of jeans because comfort is life. Also, I knew that there would be a lot of walking, so I went for these shimmery flats that bring the outfit together.

IMG_6985.JPG

As for makeup, I opted for a subtle gold eyeshadow and a brownish red lipstick. I was quite happy with the final result as it seemed appropriate both for the day and the night and added a little sparkle to my special day!

Soft Pink Makeup Look for Valentine’s Day

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I always prefer to go for a pink and floral themed outfit. This look, however, is also perfect for any date in the daytime or a brunch with the girls. I think that the slight hint of green in the makeup adds a special touch and pairs really well with the shades of pink.

IMG_6276.JPG

This look is very easy to recreate with basic products and would go well with pastel colored dresses if you tweak the shades as per your outfit.

IMG_6315.JPG

I do not like to spend too much time on getting ready, so I usually opt for a simple look like this.

IMG_6284.JPG

These are the products that I used on my face today-

1. Foundation – Loreal Infallible 24H Foundation in the shade 250-Radiant Sand.

2. Concealer – Loreal True Match Concealer in the shade Light-Medium

3. Eyeshadow – Maybelline Cheeky Glow Blush in Fresh Coral & the light green shade from the Rimmel Comfort Zone Palette.

4. Eyeliner + Waterline – NYX Eye Pencil in the shade 909 – Vert

5. Mascara – The Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

5. Lips – Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in the shade 225 – Sultry

6. A touch of bronzer from the Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in the shade medium.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day and what are you going to wear?
