Rustic Art Aloe Vera Gel | Review

Guest post by Sneha Narayanan from Sneha’s Expression (snehaexpression.wordpress.com)

Today, our guest blogger Sneha talks about a product that really helped her acne-prone skin. Read on to find out what she thinks about the Rustic Art Aloe Vera Gel.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USES:
Rustic Art’s Aloe vera gel is an all-purpose gel. It has no added colors, no fragrance, and is naturally fresh. It can be used as a moisturizer or an astringent and it heals acne, infections, inflammation, minor cuts, and burns. It also balances excess oil, and can be used as an antiseptic, an aftershave or a nappy rash cream too!

INGREDIENTS:
Aloe Vera, Lemon Extracts, Natural Preservative of TCLS (Tumeric oil, clove oil, lemongrass oil)

MY EXPERIENCE:
I had acne a few months back and started using this gel after trying the variants from Patanjali as well as Aloe Veda, and I must say I have got hooked to this. As I have used three tubs of Rustic Art’s Aloe Vera gel and am about to open my new tub, I decided to review this amazing gel.
I have oily and sensitive skin. No cream or moisturizer suits me except this. It balances excess oil and also has antiseptic properties. I use this gel as a night cream. I wash my face and apply it before going to bed. I also apply a thick layer under the eyes, so you can also use it as an under eye cream for dark circles. It’s lightweight and soothing.
You can also apply it as a day cream. It’s a must for all oily-skinned beauties. It doesn’t have any chemicals or parabens, which is an added bonus. My brother uses it as an aftershave and it works well for that purpose too.
While this gel is good for removing zits, it may not be as effective for severe acne. When I was undergoing treatment for Acne Vulgaris, the doctor prescribed me Doxycycline, and I used this gel as a moisturizer and it worked well.
The only drawback is the packaging because if two or more people use the same tub, it may be unhygienic.

The Benefits of Tea Tree Oil in Skincare

Tea Tree Oil is a powerful anti-bacterial ingredient that is extremely effective at curbing acne and skin infections. Needless to say, this magical essential oil is the star ingredient in a number of skincare products that are targeted for oily and acne-prone skin. Hence, there are a number of ways in which Tea Tree Oil can be incorporated into the skincare routine. Here are some of the benefits of tea tree oil in its various forms –

SourceFile_TEA TREE OIL_1_INAOSPJ402

Tea Tree Oil Concentrate – Tea tree oil concentrates are the purest forms of the ingredient available in the market. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil is an excellent choice because it combines 15% tea tree essential oil with tamanu oil that helps with healing and renewing the skin. The best way to use tea tree oil concentrates is to apply the oil directly to active acne with a cotton swab. As an overnight spot treatment, tea tree oil will help in drying out angry breakouts within a day or two and is therefore perfect when you are prepping your acne-prone skin for a special event.

Tea Tree Oil Masks – Tea tree oil face masks help to suck out all the dirt, grime and sweat from the pores while providing a cooling and soothing sensation to irritated skin. These face masks typically combine the purifying properties of clay with the anti-bacterial action of tea tree oil to ensure the all-round health of the skin. Using a tea tree oil face mask once or twice a week is a great way to prevent new breakouts and to nip acne in the bud.

Tea Tree Oil Scrub – The addition of tea tree oil to scrubs adds anti-acne properties to the exfoliating product. Tea tree oil scrubs will unclog your pores while calming your skin and shrinking the acne. These scrubs remove the dead skin and provide a smoother and more youthful look to the skin. These scrubs are perfect for those with dull and acne-prone skin. I personally enjoy The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub because it leaves my skin thoroughly refreshed and rejuvenated as well as acne-free.

Tea Tree Oil Face Wash – Tea tree oil face washes are some of the mildest ways of adding tea tree oil in your skin regimen. If you are new to the ingredient then a face wash containing tea tree oil is a good way to acclimatize your skin to the oil. Tea tree oil face washes are great at removing excess sebum in the morning or at the end of the day while reducing the appearance of pimples. You can also use a tea tree oil face wash to wash your makeup brushes, its anti-bacterial properties will kill any bacteria on your brushes and will prevent acne caused by dirty makeup brushes.

If you are someone with oily and acne-prone skin, tea tree oil can prove to be your skin’s best friend. You can choose to incorporate any or all of these tea tree oil based products in your skincare routine to get back your flawless, glowing skin.

Dermavive Hydra Cleanser – With Natural Colloidal Oatmeal | Review

A face wash is an essential part of every skincare routine, no matter how elaborate or simple. However, those with sensitive skin often find it hard to find a face wash that does not irritate their skin. To resolve this dilemma, I will be reviewing the Dermavive Hydra Cleanser today, which is specifically formulated for sensitive skin.  Here is why this face wash is perfect for sensitive skin-

About the Brand – Dermavive products are specifically formulated for dry, itchy and irritated skin. It contains natural colloidal oatmeal which is a scientifically proven ingredient and provides many beneficial features to manage and treat dry skin conditions. It restores the normal pH balance of the skin and maintains the natural acidity of the skin, thereby protecting against dryness. It also works as a skin protectant and enhances the barrier of the skin. As these products are used in managing and treating people with dry skin problems, there is no fragrance added and the odour is the natural odour of the colloidal oatmeal.

Enriched with the goodness of oatmeal, a skincare ingredient so potent yet mild that it is even a part of several home remedies to treat rashes on an infant’s skin, this face wash is in the form of a transparent gel with a mild, natural fragrance and a gentle lather. The formula is soap-free and pH balanced and thoroughly cleanses the skin without stripping its natural oils. This for me is an ideal AM cleanser because it removes the excess sebum from the face while retaining the morning glow and the softness of the skin. It does not stretch out the skin at all and does not exaggerate any dry patches on the face. In fact, it has a gently hydrating action that makes the skin plump without making it greasy. It also removes non-waterproof makeup very easily and is suitable for oily and acne-prone skin too as it cleans out the pores really well.

Overall, the Dermavive Hydra Cleanser is an excellent face wash for those whose skin is prone to redness and dryness post using a facial cleanser. It is suitable for all skin types, from dry skin to oily, dehydrated skin. I love the unique baby-like softness that it imparts to my face after I use it in the mornings and the natural glow that it provides to my skin. Priced at INR 800 for a 120ml tube, this product may seem a little expensive but the mild formula and sturdy packaging make it a winner for me. So do grab your own pack from Amazon India and let me know how it works for you!

Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review

The ancient wisdom pertaining to skincare is nothing to joke about. Like our elders often say, they had it all figured out until we came along and messed it up! This holds true almost completely when it comes to skincare and haircare rituals and many modern brands are going back to our roots to come up with products that are contemporary in their outlook yet traditional in essence. The Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub is an excellent example of this skincare approach. This scrub is a face mask and scrub combined in one and is packed with the goodness of wild turmeric, an irreplaceable ingredient of traditional skincare rituals.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
The product comes in the form of a dry powder that needs to be combined with a wet ingredient to create a face pack. The brand recommends using rose water if you have oily skin and milk or curd if you have normal to dry skin. I like using this powder mixed in with yogurt even though I have combination to oily skin.
One whiff of this powder and you will feel like you are surrounded by sandalwood and essence from a pooja. The powder not only smells amazing but is also packed with the anti-oxidant and brightening properties of turmeric along with a combination of some age-old skincare ingredients such as milk powder and besan and some contemporary and unique ones such as beetroot extracts, carrot extracts, and strawberry extracts.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
The powder easily combines with the curd to form a smooth paste which I then apply all over my face. I also use the paste on my arms to get rid of the inevitable tan. I leave the paste on for around 10 minutes and then exfoliate using the same in a circular motion. When mixed with yogurt, the paste does not become overly dry on the skin and does not give a stretchy feeling. In fact, some of the moisture gets absorbed into the skin making it feel plumper than before. The walnut scrub particles are not too chunky but they exfoliate really well upon remoistening the mask and provide a medium exfoliation without being too gritty and harsh.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
Upon washing off the rest of the product, my skin looks visibly brighter, and with regular usage at least twice a week, the product helps in getting rid of stubborn tanning. Also, the antiseptic properties of turmeric help curb acne and other skin infections, making this scrub the perfect choice for the humid Monsoon weather. Using this product not only makes my skin feel healthier than before but its calming fragrance also makes me feel pampered and relaxed as if I am at a spa.
Vya Naturals Turmeric Brightening Scrub | Review
Trust me, you will understand the purity of this product once you smell it and look at its texture. This is why I don’t mind paying INR 695 for a 100gm jar of this scrub. The product is effective yet gentle and does not dry out the skin at all. Basically, it combines the best of the old and the new and removes the hassle of sourcing and storing all the ingredients for making a DIY mask. So if you want a mild and effective way to sort out skin problems such as acne, dullness, and pigmentation then this turmeric scrub might be your saviour!

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

Has the monsoon humidity clogged up your pores yet? Yes? Time to stock up on some clarifying face masks and the one that I am loving lately is the Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask. While I do love all my charcoal face masks, I sometimes feel that they are a bit too strong and a bit too trying to be used too often, which is when I reach for this product instead. Read on to find out my thoughts on the product.

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

This face mask has the signature green tea scent of the Plum green tea range. The formula is in the form of an extremely smooth and creamy mud mask. It glides on the skin and instantly provides a soothing, slightly cool sensation. For a detoxifying mask, this one is pretty mild, even though it clarifies the skin really well, making it perfect for those with slightly sensitive skin.

I leave this product on for almost 10-15 minutes, and by this time the mask dries up completely like a mud mask should and feels slightly “stretchy” on the skin. Upon washing off the product, my face looks visibly brighter and glowy and completely non-greasy.

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

What I love about this product is how gentle it is despite being able to pull out all the gunk from my pores. After a tiring day, it pumps back some life into my skin while calming it down and is also an excellent product for prepping the skin for a special event where you want to glow from within. The formula contains clay to soak up the excess oil, glycolic acid to exfoliate and brighten the skin, and green tea extracts to control acne – a perfect concoction for my skin type which is combination to oily and acne-prone.

Plum Green Tea Clear Face Mask | Review

Priced at INR 490 for a 60 gm jar, this product is quite affordable for what it does and is something that I am thoroughly enjoying in the humid weather. If you are someone who does not prefer masks that tingle and stretch the skin too much, I am sure you will love this one. Also, the fact that it is a vegan, cruelty-free product makes me favour it over others that are not. A must-have for the monsoons in my opinion!

Vya Naturals Vitamin C Face Wash | Review

Do you know what my skin loves first thing in the morning? A generous serving of freshly squeezed citrus juice! Vitamin C made a dramatic entry in the Indian skincare market last year and by now almost everyone is aware of its amazing skin benefits. A powerful anti-oxidant, Vitamin C adds a natural glow to the face and actually helps in getting rid of blemishes. Take this from someone who has struggled throughout her teenage years with persistent acne and the scars that they leave behind, this ingredient is the only thing that made a visible difference to my skin in a matter of weeks. Coming to the Vitamin C Face Wash from Vya, this product is the latest addition to my Vitamin C collection and here is what I think of it.

Vya Naturals Vitamin C Face Wash | Review

This face wash is in the form of runny, transparent-orange gel and comes in a sleek bottle with a pump. It froths pretty easily upon contact with water and you need only one pump for the entire face and neck region. Its fragrance is bang on that of freshly squeezed orange juice which is perfect for the summer months. The formula leaves the skin non-greasy and matte without that uncomfortable dry feeling. It also provides a subtle glow to my face after a sleep-deprived night which is something I definitely dig about this product.

The star ingredients of this product are Ascorbic Acid and Grapefruit Oil which are both sources of Vitamin C and bring their anti-oxidant and anti-aging powers to this face wash. If you are someone who is suffering from dull, oily to normal skin with blemishes, you must try this facewash out. Priced at INR 695 for a 100ml bottle, this product is a little pricey but is great value for the quality that Vya Naturals provide. Glamisha Skin Lightening Cream | Review

Hello people! As we slowly drag ourselves away from Monday and towards the weekend (lol, yes, I start dreaming about the weekend from Tuesday itself!), let us talk about some more skincare from Glamisha. I spoke about their lovely face wash yesterday but they also sent me their Skin Lightening Cream with Kojic Acid Depalmitate and Arbutin. Although I am always on the fence about “lightening creams”, I do like to try them out, not to make my skin lighter, but to get rid of the pigmentation on my face left behind by acne. So here is what I thought about the Glamisha Skin Lightening Cream.

Glamisha Skin Lightening Cream | Review

This cream has a very unique texture and is quite different from anything I have used before. It is quite thick and does not get absorbed into the skin immediately upon application, even after massaging for a few minutes, the white streaks stay pretty visible, but after around 3-4 minutes, it automatically sinks into the skin and the whiteness disappears. Once fully absorbed by the skin, it feels quite light and comfortable on the skin and it also seems to have mattifying properties. Whenever I apply this cream, my face stays oil-free for much longer than usual, so this product can be very handy for those with oily skin.

Glamisha Skin Lightening Cream | Review

The cream has also made a slight difference to my blemishes already and my skin feels brighter overall every time I use the product. I will probably do an update in a month or two regarding the long-term effects of the cream because blemishes never disappear within a few weeks and take a fair amount of time to fade no matter how effective the cream is. However, I am fairly certain that with continued usage, this cream will definitely help with my pigmentation because it contains Kojic Acid and Arbutin, both of which are known as skin brightening agents.

Glamisha Skin Lightening Cream | Review

This cream is priced at INR 975 for a 100gm tube, which is a little steep, but since Glamisha is a luxury skincare brand, the price tag is expected. I will say that this product is worth the price for those with oily skin because it has excellent mattifying properties without being drying on the skin. I like that the cream is light-weight and gentle and does not cause any irritation on the skin. Brightening creams that are non-greasy are something quite rare and this is one of the few products that fit the bill. So if you want your skin to glow, not shine, then do try out this product, but remember to wait for a few minutes post application to let the product be soaked in by the skin.

I hope that the review was helpful. You can buy the Glamisha Skin Lightening Cream here.

Note: Product sent by the brand but all opinions are honest and my own.

Plum Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer | Review

I feel that at the rate at which I use up my skincare products, I will have tried all the mattifying moisturizers that exist in the world soon enough. Although this may seem like a huge exaggeration, I am a fan of switching up my skincare and rarely ever buy the same product twice in a row. This is why when I exhausted my supply of The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion and Lacto Calamine, I purchased the Plum Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer. This product is paraben-free, SLS-free, phthalates-free and contains green tea extracts and glycolic acid, which are excellent ingredients for oily, acne-prone skin. Lately, I have been using this product on a daily basis, and here are my thoughts on its performance.

Plum Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer Review

This light-weight moisturizer comes in a sleek white bottle with a handy pump. The texture of the formula is quite liquidy and the scent is incredibly refreshing, something that helps with waking me up in the morning. You only need a few drops of this product to cover the entire face and neck and the product literally sinks into the skin instantly. It mattifies my face without any tingling sensation or stretchy feeling on my skin. The formula is very gentle and is perfect for those with sensitive skin.

Plum Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer Review

Although the product does a great job at mattifying my skin, my T-zone does end up producing more oil after a couple of hours. While the rest of my face remains non-shiny, my nose does look a little greasy on close inspection. Bear in mind that my face is literally as oily as a frying pan during the Monsoon season, so if you do not have extremely oily skin, the matte effect may last much longer on your face. I do love that this moisturizer is gentle and light weight but for the humid weather, I feel that the tea tree lotion from The Body Shop is more effective.

Plum Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer Review

A 50ml bottle of this product is priced at INR 450, which is much cheaper than the variant from The Body Shop and the reason why I will definitely recommend this product to those who have fairly oily skin but nothing too extreme. Personally, I would whip this one out during fall/winter, when my skin does not produce oil like crazy and needs a bit more hydration. This is a great product for the price and will certainly help those who want a relatively gentle mattifying action.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash | Review

There was a point in time when the Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash was my go to daily face wash to keep the acne in check. However, Ponds changed the packaging of this product a few months ago and as far as I know, they changed the formula of the face wash too. I have had a hard time adjusting to the new formula and although it is a fairly decent face wash for the price, it is just not as good as the original formula.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash Review

This face wash is specially designed for acne prone skin and the original formula did dry up my pimples pretty quick and reduced the production of oil. The new formula, on the other hand, does get rid of the greasiness but does not shrink the pimples as effectively as before. With the original formula, my skin would start behaving much better in a few days but this one only improves the condition of my acne but doesn’t get rid of them completely. My other major qualm with the product is its scent. The original formula had a fresh scent which I quite enjoyed but this one has a pungent herbal smell that lingers on my face, which I genuinely dislike.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash Review

If you want my unbiased opinion, without comparing it to the original formula, then I would say that the Ponds Pimple Clear Face wash is one of the most effective budget face washes for acne prone skin in India. It does remove grease and dirt from the pores and makes the skin non-greasy for the next couple of hours. There are more effective face washes for eradicating acne but none are as affordable as this drugstore product. However, since I have been a lover of the original formula, I can’t help but compare this new version to its former self and that leaves me a tad disappointed.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash Review

Personally, I won’t be purchasing this face wash again because of the new, annoying scent. If, however, you are not as sensitive to scents as I am and are on a tight budget, you may want to give this product a go. This is one of the reasonable options for students who are most prone to suffering from breakouts yet cannot afford luxury skin care. Priced at INR 69 for a 50gm tube, this face wash cleanses the face gently yet effectively and is definitely a boon for the oily skinned ladies (save for the scent).

That Good Old Bottle Of Lacto Calamine | Review

Years before the benefits of clay were recognized by international skincare brands, a humble product could be found on the Indian dressers, one that provided the goodness of kaolin that is known to cure several skin issues. I still remember my mother showering praises upon the Lacto Calamine Daily Nourishing Lotion for controlling acne and healing blemishes. This oil-balancing lotion, being one of the products that I received as a legacy from the beautiful women of my family, has always held a special place in my heart.

Lacto Calamine Daily Nourishing Lotion Review

Today, this product comes in two variants, the original formula meant for normal to oily skin and a new version that is more suitable for dry skin. The formula for normal to oily skin is what best suits my needs because it offers oil control and reduces the appearance of acne. Some of the ingredients of this lotion are kaolin, known for its oil absorption and exfoliating properties, zinc oxide, known for controlling acne, and glycerin, which is an effective moisturizer. Basically, this combination of ingredients is all that someone with blemish prone skin could ask for.

Lacto Calamine Daily Nourishing Lotion Review

I recently ran out of my favorite Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Mattifying Lotion and couldn’t find it in stock on any online store. This is when I decided to fall back on the trusted Lacto Calamine which I always buy backups of. This product is equally good at oil absorption when compared to the lotion from The Body Shop but is slightly more hydrating and gentle on the skin. It keeps my face non-greasy for hours, and after using it for approximately a week, I can notice that my blemishes have faded a little as well. This is a water based product that is extremely light weight and if you want to make it more potent, you can add a small drop of tea tree oil to the lotion before application. Additionally, it forms a great base for makeup and makes my foundation last slightly longer too!

Lacto Calamine Daily Nourishing Lotion Review

There is only one thing that I would like to change about the product – the dispenser. It currently comes in a wide necked bottle that always dispenses more product than I need, and I would love a smaller opening with a flip cap instead. Other than this minor qualm with the packaging, I adore everything about this lotion, from its pleasant earthy scent to its mattifying action. If you have oily skin then I would highly recommend trying this lotion as your daily moisturizer to see visible improvements in the texture of your skin within a few weeks. Priced at INR 110 for a 60 ml bottle, this product is proof of the fact that there are so many gems at the drugstore that get outshined by the dazzle of the fancier brands although they are equally good in terms of quality and performance. Hopefully, this blog post will allow some of you ladies to save your money and give a chance to this oldie but goodie!

I hope that this review was helpful, you can buy the Lacto Calamine Skin Balance Daily Nourishing Lotion here or at any drugstore in India.

Aaranyaa Tea Tree Face Wash & Neem Tulsi Face Wash | Review

You may or may not like makeup but everyone needs a little bit of skincare, and the more natural your skincare products are, the better. This is why I was extremely thrilled to receive two amazing face washes from Aaranyaa, a brand that relies on natural ingredients to bring out the radiance of the skin. Aaranyaa sent me their anti bacterial Neem Tulsi Face Wash, as well as their Tea Tree Face Wash, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I have been carefully testing out these products from the past few days and here are my thoughts on both of them.

Aaranyaa Neem Tulsi Face Wash Tea Tree Face Wash ReviewAaranyaa Neem Tulsi Face Wash – This face wash comes in a bright green packaging and is meant for combination to oily skin. It contains the goodness of Neem and Tulsi, which are known to have powerful anti bacterial properties and are excellent at combatting acne. The product comes in the form of a clear green gel and has a herbal smell. It lathers quite easily and cleanses the skin very effectively. It leaves my face feeling fresh and squeaky clean, without a stretchy feeling that some face washes tend to cause. I have noticed that this product keeps the oil under check for at least 4-5 hours and I believe that with regular usage, it might completely eliminate excessive oil production. This face wash is an excellent option for those with regular hormonal breakouts because it is not overly drying yet removes the greasiness very effectively.

Aaranyaa Neem Tulsi Face Wash Tea Tree Face Wash PackagingAaranyaa Tea Tree Face Wash – The Tea Tree Face Wash is meant for normal to dry skin and contains tea tree oil, which is an all in one cure for most skin issues. This face wash is gentler on the skin than the Neem Tulsi one and it leaves the skin more hydrated. I am thoroughly impressed that Aaranya has created a face wash with tea tree oil which is suitable for dry skin because most tea tree oil ranges that I have encountered are meant for oily skin. I usually have oily skin but sometimes I suffer from dry patches and this face wash is perfect for those days. In fact, I even asked a few friends with dry skin to try this out and they loved it! The antibacterial properties of tea tree oil in a moisturizing face wash is something new for me and I am enjoying it a lot. As an added bonus, this face wash has a citrusy scent and a cool green packaging which I absolutely adore!

Aaranyaa Neem Tulsi Face Wash Tea Tree Face Wash GelThese face washes are priced at INR 195 for a 110 ml tube and are perfect for daily use because they are Sulphate Free. I am so glad that I got an opportunity to try out this new brand and I will definitely be purchasing more products from their collection. If you enjoy herbal skincare then these face washes will surely impress you, and with two different face washes for different skin types, there is something for everyone. I honestly do not have anything negative to say about these face washes and I am in skincare heaven right now! 🙂

You can buy these wonderful products at Aaranyaa’s website. I am sure you will love them as much as I do.

XoXo,

Mrinalini

The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion | Review

As the heat intensifies, makeup takes a back seat because the skin begs to breathe! As dramatic as it may sound, many people suffer from the worst skin during the summer months. Any form of instant relief is highly appreciated during the days of terrible breakouts and redness that accompany the warm weather. The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion is one such instant remedy that calms down my skin.

IMG_8400.JPG

I use this lotion as a day cream whenever I suffer from hormonal breakouts. It immediately mattifies my skin and the tea tree oil helps in reducing the redness and irritation. It also prevents further acne and shrinks any swellings that are early signs of gigantic pimples.

IMG_8407.JPG

The formula is very light and almost like a gel. A tiny drop is sufficient for the face and the neck and it keeps the oil at bay for a few hours. I have also noticed that makeup applies really well on top of this lotion. In fact, I often skip primer when I use this product. As far as I know, this lotion does not contain any SPF, so you will need an additional step of applying sunscreen before you step out of the house.

IMG_8405.JPG

Priced at INR 995 for a 50 ml tube, this product is on the pricier side but it works as a great moisturizer for the days when your skin is too oily and temperamental. I would highly recommend this product to those with extremely greasy and acne-prone skin, the antibacterial action of this mattifying lotion will work wonders for you!
