People say that rice-eaters have the most fabulous hair and flawless skin and many vouch for the efficacy of rice as a skincare ingredient. Personally too, I have noticed that skincare products with rice tend to work well at brightening my skin, which is why I recently picked up The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion and Foaming Cleanser. These products have become a staple part of my PM routine ever since, and here is why.
The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion is a cream-based cleansing lotion that gets rid of dirt, grease, and non-waterproof makeup with ease. I have recently been gravitating towards cleansing lotions because they seem to leave my skin hydrated and plump even after washing my face. This product is no exception, it feels gentle on the skin and the tiniest quantity is able to take care of my entire face of makeup. It does leave behind a slightly oily film on my skin, but I wash my face with a cleanser after using this product anyway, so it does not bother me at all. Also, the lotion tends to sting my eyes ever so slightly, so if you have super sensitive eyes then you may want to be careful while using this product. Of course, the packaging with a pump is super-convenient and acts like a cherry on top of the cake for me.
The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser complements the cleansing lotion perfectly. It has a creamy consistency in the tube and lathers beautifully, producing a rich foam that feels like a cloud on my skin. Again, the tiniest drop of the cleanser goes a long way and the product lives up to its name of being a foaming face wash. My skin looks glowy and feels super soft and plump after using this cleanser and this combo of products has done a good job at keeping the acne at bay as well!
Overall, I am super happy with both these products and would love to try out more items from the Rice Water range by The Face Shop. The price point of INR 650 for the giant bottles is pretty reasonable too and I will definitely be repurchasing these in the future.
Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them? Let me know in the comments below!
A warm welcome to you to my post!
Whether you are a beauty pro or a beginner or even a beauty enthusiast, the perfect base is the goal you desire. And no brownie points for guessing what you need for a perfect base, a foundation!!!!. Today’s post is about a foundation that has been in the market for a while now and I have taken my own sweet time to test this one so that I could present a view on it.
I am talking about the Nykaa Skingenius Sculpting & Hydrating foundation. It’s a
liquid foundation with impressive ingredients and a claim which is rarely heard of. It
claims that once applied it will adapt to your closest skin colour, it’s basically to
make online shopping easier as choosing your foundation colour online can be even more difficult then pleasing Gods. And oh its formulated in Italy.
The other claims made by Nykaa are:
-Luxurious long wear formula
-It melts seamlessly into your skin and hydrates your skin with its Polyfit technology
and Hyaluronic acid (the impressive ingredient I was talking about).
-It stays true to its colour and also the sun filters shield your complexion all day long.
-It covers imperfections virtually.
-It gives a radiant lit-from-within glow.
Since it’s a base makeup product, I have laid down few criteria to explain how it
fared and on what parameters I tested it. Let’s begin:
Availability: It’s easily available on Nykaa’s website and in Nykaa stores (which are
located in a majority of the Metro cities). In short, it’s presence is good.
Packaging: It is housed in a small cardboard packaging with a vibrant pink
colour, just like other Nykaa products. Each and every detail about the foundation is stated on the packaging (the full list of ingredients is mentioned). The bottle of foundation is that of plastic and is tiny miny and slim containing a net quantity of 30ml. It has a nozzle to pour out the foundation (I mean no fancy dropper or a convenient pump) but it is not super inconvenient to use. I would say its travel friendly and also easy to carry around in your handbag. One drawback I find is that the bottle of foundation doesn’t state what shade it is, only the outer packaging mentions it (so you will have to memorize either the shade number or the shade name.)
Pricing: The 30 ml bottle costs Rs 575 but you can pick it up during discounts. (Who doesn’t like saving some bucks).
Shade range: It has 5 shades to offer. Which I think is not enough to cater to all Indian
skin tones. I wish they introduce some more shades to their range. I picked up shade
02 Almond Beige, which would suit fair to medium skin tones, and it has a mild yellow
Texture: Cream like, not very liquidy or solid, just perfect. It blends seamlessly into
the skin (one of the claims proves to be true). It has a bit of a chemical fragrance
which fades away gradually but could be an issue if you are sensitive to such strong
Coverage: The foundation offers a light to medium coverage. Now, this would be a personal preference, if you like your foundation to be matte and full coverage – you might end up disliking it or not liking it much. But if you are someone like me who likes a
dewy finish and a medium coverage that doesn’t give a made-up look, this foundation
is made for you. You can use it on a daily basis, just remember to use a matte primer
and a compact or a translucent powder with it. It definitely gives the face a radiant glow. Since it’s a medium coverage foundation it won’t hide all your spots and blemishes, you will have to cover that up with the help of a concealer. It does provide an even skin tone though. The formula does not feel heavy on the skin but it does feel sticky at
times. So if you are an oily skinned girl I suggest you stay away from this one, even a
combination skin type person will find it a little sticky but again if topped up with a
compact it will be fine. My other observation is that during the Monsoon it makes
your face a little more sticky than usual. However, for dry skin girls this is a God sent
product and it won’t settle in your dry patches (if you moisturise well). Plus it will
give you a beautiful and a subtle glow.
Lasting Power: It lasts upto 5-6 hours if set properly.
Lastly, I would say it’s a perfect foundation for daily use and is more of a BB cream with
a slightly high coverage. Do I recommend it? Just keep your skin type in mind – if you have dry skin then this is a must-have for you.
I hope you liked the review!
So I recently received a sample of the Innisfree Perfect 9 Repair Serum and Cream along with a Nykaa order and boy, I have never wished harder that I had a fortune to spend on skincare without burning a hole in my pocket! While I could only get 2 uses out of the sample packs, I could already see a massive difference in the texture of my skin. Read on to find out more about this amazing range!
The Innisfree Perfect 9 Repair Serum contains 9 active ingredients and claims to combat the signs of ageing while providing a smooth texture to the skin. To be honest, this was the star of the duo that I received. This light-weight serum literally sinks into the skin and instantly makes the skin feel extremely smooth to the touch. It visibly reduced my pores and was completely non-greasy. My skin felt tighter and more supple, which were perhaps the anti-ageing properties of the product in action. I know that it sounds too good to be true but this serum literally stole the thunder from all the other serums I have used to date.
The Innisfree Perfect 9 Repair Cream also contains 9 actives and claims to brighten, tighten, and hydrate the skin. This product has a creamy consistency but applies really smoothly on the skin and moisturises the skin extremely well without being greasy or heavy. It does not look shiny on the face and in fact has a semi-matte finish a few minutes post application. It also has a slight tightening effect on the skin, but I feel that the serum makes a more drastic difference to the skin than the cream.
The only downside of these products is their price. The serum is available at INR 4200 for a 50ml bottle and the cream is priced at INR 3400 for a 60ml jar. Since these products are definitely pricey, I would recommend investing in the serum alone. Also, it would be better to grab these when there is a deal on Nykaa (which I currently have my eyes out for). All my friends reading this should know by now what I need as a present for my next birthday and you should coax your friends to buy you these skincare gems as well!
If you are someone with super long, super thin, knotty hair, then one of the objects that you fear the most would be your hair brush. Getting all those super fine knots out is an arduous task, especially if you use heat on your hair in any form. I go through this ordeal every single day, and the only week when my hair is extremely manageable and easy to brush through is when I get an argan oil hair spa done at my local salon, and they always use Moroccan Oil products on my hair. In an attempt to extend the softening and smoothing effects of the occasional hair spa, I decided to buy Moroccan Oil products for my home-haircare routine, and since the products from the brand are not the cheapest on the block, I decided to experiment with just the Moroccan Oil Moisture Repair Conditioner first. Read on to find out my thoughts about this product.
This conditioner is in the form of a light cream that smells heavenly, just like the products at the spa that I love. I use it on my wet, shampooed hair and rinse off after 2-3 minutes. Despite being an argan oil based product, the conditioner is not heavy on the hair at all and does not leave behind any oily or greasy residue. However, it detangles the hair beautifully and leaves them less prone to tangling until the next wash. It reduces frizziness and helps my hair fall into uniform waves, which is their natural shape. It does not make my hair unusually glossy and does not fare exceptionally well in the shine department, but it does reduce the roughness of the hair and makes it softer to the touch. I also love the minimalistic design of the bottle and the press lid, which makes the product travel-friendly.
Overall, I feel that to replicate the full effect of the professional hair spa, I will have to buy the entire hair care range from the brand, which includes the shampoo, mask, and oil based treatment. However, to extend the effects of the spa or to make the hair smoother than it is with most conditioners, this product is a good choice. The price of INR 1530 for a 250 ml bottle is definitely not budget-friendly but I think it is an investment that I needed to make for my perpetually rough hair. Will keep you posted if I buy more products from the brand. Are you going to try this conditioner? Let me know how it works for you if you do!
2017 was the year of the sheet mask craze in India, but I am someone who often does not buy a product just because everybody else is buying it. This was the case with The Face Shop Sheet Masks, which everybody raved about but I never added to my cart. However, recently, my skin looked a little dull and tired, thanks to the heat and the long hours in front of a screen, so I decided to finally try out the Blueberry and Lemon Sheet Masks from The Face Shop. Here are my thoughts after using these masks on consecutive nights.
The Blueberry mask claims to be a revitalizing mask that is supposed to improve the suppleness of the skin while hydrating it and making it baby smooth. It comes drenched in a serum that smells like blueberries and has a slightly thick consistency. The mask feels extremely cooling on the skin and fits quite well on the face. Upon removal after 15-20 minutes, my skin looked visibly more radiant and felt hydrated. However, although the brand recommends patting in the residual serum into the skin, I feel that the serum is quite heavy and felt like something that would clog my pores. Therefore, I would recommend rinsing off the extra serum if you have oily, acne-prone skin.
The lemon mask is packed with the goodness of Vitamin C and claims to add a radiance to the skin. This mask too comes drenched in a cooling serum but somehow this particular serum feels lighter than the blueberry one and gets absorbed into the skin more easily, making it more suitable for oily-skinned people. Strangely enough, after using this sheet mask, I did not notice as much brightness as I had expected due to its claims, but my skin felt extremely smooth and supple. Overall, I was pretty happy with this mask and this one definitely suited my skin way better than the blueberry mask.
I will surely be purchasing the Lemon sheet mask again but I am not too keen on reusing the Blueberry mask because the serum felt too heavy on my skin. Perhaps if you have dry skin then the Blueberry mask will suit you better. After using these sheet masks I do get what the hype is all about. The Face Shop Sheet Masks provided me some of the most visible results after just one use when compared to the other sheet masks I have tried, which require multiple uses before the results start showing. Priced at INR 100 each, these sheet masks are an excellent investment to give a boost to your skin right before a special event, provided that you find the right variant for your skin. A must try in my opinion!
Just a few years back, I was just a kajal and lip balm gal, then the sparkling world of makeup lured me in and I expanded my makeup collection to include mascara, concealers, bronzers and what not. However, highlighter was something I usually steered clear of, primarily because I was scared that it would make my oily face resemble a grease ball, and also because I was worried that the glitter particles present in most highlighters might irritate me. However, the more I saw the beautifully highlighted cheekbones and noses of beauty bloggers, the more the idea of trying out a highlighter stopped frightening me. Ever since then, I have experimented with a few highlighters, both powders and creams, but have finally found an affordable highlighter that actually makes me glow like I want to. This product is the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Precious Petals Highlighting Powder, a gorgeous drugstore highlighter that has become my absolute fave. Read on to find out more about this gem of a product.
This powder highlighter comes in a sturdy, compact packaging with a beautiful floral pattern embossed on the actual product. It has a stunning bronzy-gold glow that will compliment medium and dusky Indian skin tones really well. The product provides smooth and even pigmentation, blends like a dream, and does not have any fallout. It imparts a “healthy glow” to the face that looks quite natural when light falls on it, so it is perfect for the days when you want to look a little glammed up without going full glam. In fact, if used in measured amounts, it can even complement a light daily makeup look really well.
I apply this using my Wet n Wild Fan Brush, and like to dust the product gently over my cheekbones using the brush. Doing this once provides a very subtle sheen to the cheeks but you can easily build the glow up with multiple layers, without your makeup looking cakey. I also love the price point of INR 499 and the fact that the product doesn’t contain any chunky glitter, and instead has micro shimmer embedded in it that offers a smooth finish and a pearlescent glow.
The Wet n Wild Mega Glo Highlighting Powders are currently available in 3 shades in India, so I am sure that you will find something that suits your complexion. If you are someone who wants to experiment with highlighters without going overboard on the glow factor, do try out this product because it is easy on the pocket and very forgiving too. I am sure that it will last me a really long time and I don’t feel the need to experiment with other brands while Precious Petals has my back!
Despite the world becoming more and more tech-savvy with every passing minute, so much so that even toddlers have their own iPads these days, many of us are still wary of online shopping. Being suspicious of these websites is justified too, many of them are in fact fraudulent, and deliver products of poor quality or often do not deliver anything at all in return for your hard-earned money. For a person like me, however, online shopping is a blessing, because running from store to store is too time-consuming and tiring for me. Here are some of the websites that I fall back on every time I have the urge to spend some money, and they usually do not disappoint.
1. Ajio.com – My go-to online destination for all my fashion needs – from jeans to footwear and amazing ethnic wear too. Ajio’s own designs are some of the most unique I have seen on the internet and their curation of clothes from other brands is also top-notch. If you are tired of seeing the same designs on every online shopping portal then ajio.com is the breath of fresh air that you need. They deliver to my location within 2 days and have a very easy breezy return policy too.
2. Amazon Prime – If it is basic stuff that you need, be it household supplies or shampoo, Amazon is my pick for you. Go for an Amazon Prime membership if you are a frequent online shopper, the free shipping and the next day delivery is totally worth it. Stick to sellers with a high rating and try to opt only for the items from the prime category and you will be sorted.
3. Nykaa.com – While I have heard many people complain that Nykaa delivers expired or fake products and has horrible customer service, I have personally never faced any such issues with them. I love Nykaa because they have the hugest collection of makeup and skincare items on one website in India and exclusively sell many international brands. If you have been away from Nykaa due to all the negative reviews you have heard about them, give them one shot and then decide for yourself because my experience has been pretty good.
So these were my go-to websites for when I am feeling spendy. Do let me know what your favourite websites are for online shopping and also let me know what your experience has been with my favourites. Keeping it short because I am sure that you want to indulge in some retail therapy now 😛 Toodles!
P.S. – Special mention to Shein.in, which is my recent favourite for affordable western wear and cutesie night clothes.
I am someone who always needs some color on her nails but hates painting them. Therefore, long-wearing, chip-resistant nail paints are what I am all about. This is why despite hearing mixed reviews about the Nykaa Salon Shine Gel Nail Lacquers, I grabbed two shades during the Black Friday sales because the gel formula and the fantastic shades were too tempting to not try. I am currently sporting the shade 201 – Viva Mexico on my nails and I must say this is one of the best items from my massive Black Friday haul.
This shade is the perfect reddish orange with ever so slight hints of pink that make it somewhat the ideal deep coral for all Indian skin tones. I honestly cannot think of any skin tone this shade will not flatter in the most striking way. In fact, I love this shade so much that if I could re-pick my wedding lehenga, I would go for this color.
The formula is slightly thicker than your regular polish but not goopy at all. It literally glides on the nails and provides opaque pigmentation in just one coat, although I applied two coats this time just for good measure. It takes only a couple of minutes to dry completely and does not smudge even if you go in with 2 coats within a span of 5 minutes, something that I truly appreciate. It is quite similar to my favorite Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Color, but I feel that it is EVEN better in the shine and smoothness of application department. The nail color has an enchanting shine to it which is the closest to actual gel nail paints that I have ever experienced. It reflects the light beautifully and the shine lasts for at least 3-4 days before it begins to dull down. Also, the formula is pretty chip-resistant on my nails even though I do a lot of household chores. The first and extremely tiny chip appeared after 4 days and my nails stayed pretty presentable for 7 days.
Overall, this is the most impressed I have ever been with a gel-like nail color that I have tried and I will definitely be purchasing more shades from the range. The price of INR 325 for the gorgeous 15ml bottle is completely justified due to the opacity, longevity, and shine of the formula. Plus, you can always grab these for even cheaper during one of the many Nykaa sales. If you are someone who doesn’t like repainting your nails in the middle of the week then I must insist that you should buy at least one shade from the range, I am sure you will go back for more once you try it!

Disclaimer – This giveaway is not sponsored by Nykaa or Instagram and is being conducted solely by me.
Nykaa has recently released a LARGE number of products and it is becoming extremely hard even for the beauty bloggers to keep up with their releases. However, I did manage to get my hands on one product from their new launches that I knew that I would finish up for sure, and obviously, it had to be a kajal. The latest addition to their range of kajals is the Nykaa Eyem 24/7 Kajal which I have been trying out for you guys over the past few days.
This kajal is a smudge-proof, waterproof, jet black kajal that comes in a twist up packaging. It fares really well in the pigmentation department and does stay on the eyes for a long time (7-8 hours) when used on the waterline or as an eyeliner. In terms of pigmentation and final look, this kajal reminds of the Plum kajal but this one is a fraction of the price (INR 299), making it the more affordable buy. However, I feel that it is slightly harder than the Plum kajal and does tug at the waterline a little bit during application.
I also have mixed feelings about this being a twist up kajal. I tend to prefer the old school pencil versions because I notice that the twist up variety often breaks. In fact, a small chunk of this kajal also broke off while I was swatching the product on my hand. Also, Nykaa has added a pink rubber grip to the pencil for better hold but to be honest I feel that it would have been as easy to use without the grip but the pink accent does make the pencil look cooler.
Overall, this eye pencil does live up to its claims of being long-lasting and budge-proof. I also like that the formula does not irritate my sensitive eyes, which is pretty rare for me. So if you are looking for an affordable Kajal that stays put all day long then you must give this one a shot. I am sure you will love it if you do not mind twist-up pencils.
I just came to know that Nykaa is releasing some new shades as a part of their Pastel Nail Enamel collection, and here I am, still drooling over the shades from the original range. On my nails today is the Nykaa Pastel Nail Enamel in the shade 82 Lychee Delight, a sophisticated yet unique nude nail color that is the perfect balance of white and grey.
As the name suggests, this shade seems to be inspired by the color of the pulp of the lychee fruit, although it has slightly heavier grey undertones. This milky grey color will complement fair to medium skin tones really well and is the perfect shade for professional women.
This particular shade requires at least 2 coats and you may even need 3 coats if you want a completely opaque finish. Just like the rest of the Nykaa Pastel Nail Enamels, the formula of Lychee Delight is also quite thin and easy to work with. The brush is a narrow one and you will need to go over each nail at least thrice to coat the entire surface. Despite the brush being narrow, the richness of the formula prevents the final finish from being streaky.
Priced at INR 179, the Nykaa Pastel Nail Enamels are quite a bargain, considering the huge range of flattering shades they are available in. The only problem that I have with the formula is that it begins to chip within 3 days. Nevertheless, these nail colors are gorgeous while they last on the nails and I will definitely be checking out the new shades launched by Nykaa for this season!
I hope that this review was helpful, you can buy the Nykaa Pastel Nail Enamels here.
