The Crazy Makeup Lady

Hello folks! Since I do not have a product review for you today, I decided to share a crazy makeup look that I created a few days ago. This is definitely not a wearable look, but for me, makeup is also a form of creative expression. Let me know how you like this colorful look in the comments below. Also, do you also ever go crazy with your makeup?

Full Face Using Mineral/Powder Makeup

Hey everyone, how is the weekend going? You guys are the best when it comes to providing ideas for new posts, and this one is based on a suggestion from the lovely Sanchali (check out her blog here). Sanchali requested that I write a post about creating a natural finish using mineral makeup and wanted to know what are the products readily available in India which can be used for the same. Now, I do not have a lot of mineral makeup and I am definitely not a makeup artist, therefore I did my own version of the look and have used a combination of mineral makeup and pressed powder products.

The look that I have gone for couples nude glossy lips and brown toned eye makeup with smooth, glowing skin and a soft blush.

Here is a step by step description of how to recreate this look:

Step 1: Prime and Conceal

There are two golden rules that you need to follow when you work with powders. The first one is that powders need a base to stick to, therefore you must moisturize and prime your skin really well. I used a very unique product as a primer today, I went with the Nivea After Shave Balm for men! You may be surprised about this but it works as a really effective primer and is so affordable.

The second golden rule is to never apply cream products on top of powders. I needed to conceal a few blemishes on my skin, therefore I applied my favorite Loreal True Match Concealer (N4-5) to my primed skin before moving on to the mineral foundation.

IMG_7288.JPGStep 2: Mineral Foundation

Mineral foundations are typically loose powders that offer medium coverage and a smooth finish on primed skin. I used the mineral foundation from Bellapierre Cosmetics (Shade 004 Cinnamon) but you can also use the Loreal True Match Mineral Foundation. A good brush is essential for obtaining a smooth finish with powder products, I highly recommend a Real Techniques brush for this step.

Step 3: Blush

I do not like overly pink blushes for my skin tone, therefore I mixed the blush and the bronzer shade from my Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in Medium. This combo gave a natural blush to my cheeks. Again, I used a Real Techniques brush to apply these products.

Step 4: Eye Shadow

I wanted a soft brown look for my eyes. I first applied the True Match concealer to my lids so that the powders would adhere to the skin. I then applied the bronzer shade from my Makeup Revolution palette to the whole lid and added a layer of the highlighter shade from the same palette, for a little bit of shimmer. I then created a brown eyeliner by using a wet brush to apply the dark brown shade from my Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette to the lash line.

Step 5: Lips and Lashes

Powder products can look a little flat, so I used a lip gloss to add some shine to the face. On my lips I applied the Loreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss in the shade 110 I Got The Power. To add a little bit of length to my lashes, I used the Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Mascara (Waterproof). I also added a thin line of the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal in Black to my waterline but completely forgot to take a picture of the product.

Step 6: Finishing Spray

This is the most important step if you want to get a glowing and natural finish with mineral/powder makeup. To prevent your skin from looking dry or cakey, use liberal amounts of a setting spray or facial mist. I have used the Loreal Paris Infallible Setting Spray but you can use any facial spray that you have at hand. This last step makes the makeup blend into the skin and gives a healthy shine to the face.

And that is it! It may seem a little lengthy but the actual application took me only 15 minutes. I am also linking all the products so that you can purchase whatever you like, however, you can easily recreate this look with any similar products that are available. Just remember the two golden rules and invest in good makeup brushes and a setting spray.

XoXo,

Mrinalini

Makeup Revolution Protection Palette – Medium | Review

I am back with another review today and I will be talking about the Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in the shade Medium. This brand is quite popular for making affordable dupes of high-end makeup products, so I decided to try out the Protection Palette that contains 4 powder products (a bronzer, a highlighter, a blush and a face powder) and 3 cream concealers. I have tested out these products thoroughly and here are my thoughts on each one of them.

IMG_6886.JPG

Starting from the right, the highlighter is a gorgeous pearlescent shade with pink undertones. It shows up quite well on my skin but is a little powdery. The blush is a pretty pink shade which is not too bright and provides a natural flush to the cheeks. I have no complaints about this beautiful blush. The bronzer is a nice shade of brown and I love that it doesn’t contain any shimmer or orange undertones. It is excellent for contouring but unfortunately, the shade is a little light for my skin tone and is not dark enough to define my jawline as well as I would have liked.

The face powder is extremely light and I cannot use it at all, so I can’t really judge its quality. The concealers, however, are the stars of this palette. They are creamy and blendable and provide medium coverage. I use the lowest shade on my blemishes and the middle shade for my under eye area. I also mix all three shades to create custom colors for different parts of my face. They are a little slippery on the skin, but not enough to make me dislike them.

The giant mirror in the palette is perfect for on the go application and the sleekness of the packaging makes it easy to fit into a suitcase or handbag. Priced at INR 1350, this palette is a good investment if you find the right shades for your skin tone. There are two lighter options and one darker variant of the palette so you may want to test those as well while matching the colors. Personally, I prefer cream products for my face and usually reach for this palette only for the concealers. However, if you like powder based products then you will enjoy the blush, the bronzer, and the highlighter as well.

Buy the palette here for INR 1148.

Soft Pink Makeup Look for Valentine’s Day

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I always prefer to go for a pink and floral themed outfit. This look, however, is also perfect for any date in the daytime or a brunch with the girls. I think that the slight hint of green in the makeup adds a special touch and pairs really well with the shades of pink.

IMG_6276.JPG

This look is very easy to recreate with basic products and would go well with pastel colored dresses if you tweak the shades as per your outfit.

IMG_6315.JPG

I do not like to spend too much time on getting ready, so I usually opt for a simple look like this.

IMG_6284.JPG

These are the products that I used on my face today-

1. Foundation – Loreal Infallible 24H Foundation in the shade 250-Radiant Sand.

2. Concealer – Loreal True Match Concealer in the shade Light-Medium

3. Eyeshadow – Maybelline Cheeky Glow Blush in Fresh Coral & the light green shade from the Rimmel Comfort Zone Palette.

4. Eyeliner + Waterline – NYX Eye Pencil in the shade 909 – Vert

5. Mascara – The Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

5. Lips – Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in the shade 225 – Sultry

6. A touch of bronzer from the Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in the shade medium.
