Hedonista Choco-Nut Lip Salve | Review

I received the Hedonista Choco-Nut Lip Salve in my Mauvelush November Mellow  Edition and my lips have been smelling and tasting like chocolate ever since. This gourmet lip balm is made of ingredients such as melted chocolate, peanut butter and cocoa butter which makes it hard not to eat a spoonful of the product. It also contains a bunch of nourishing oils such as castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, as well as beeswax, that make it extremely rich and hydrating.

Hedonista Choco-Nut Lip Salve | Review

The lip balm is pretty thick but melts upon application, leaving a nourishing layer of oil on the lips that makes them super soft and moisturized. I am usually not a fan of lip balms that come in a tub packaging because you need to dip your fingers in them every single time, but this kind of a thick and waxy lip balm is what my lips need during the colder months or else they become extremely parched.

Hedonista Choco-Nut Lip Salve | Review

The lip balm is almost transparent and does not sit oddly on the lips like some of the other thicker lip balms. It sinks into the lips really fast and keeps them hydrated for several hours. If you are someone who enjoys the smell of chocolate then you will love this product, especially for the winter months. However, if you are not a fan of strong, sweet scents in beauty products then you may want to give this one a pass.

Hedonista Choco-Nut Lip Salve | Review

Overall, I do enjoy this product a lot and love its cute (and luxurious) packaging too. I also appreciate the fact that this lip salve does not contain any parabens, sulfates or phthalates. I do wish that the price of the product was much lesser than the INR 465 for which it retails but to be fair this 15gm tub will last you for months. This is a must buy for lip balm lovers who prefer something extra-nourishing as well as uniquely flavored.

Soultree Viola & Kokum Butter Lip Balm | Review

Unlike most people, I am extremely picky about my lip balms. Anything that needs to be reapplied twenty times a day or clings to the dry patches does not make the cut for me. This obsession for lip balms started during my college years when I first discovered the joys (read sorrows) of pigmented and chapped lips. My lips still act up occasionally when I become a little lazy about scrubbing or moisturizing them, which is when I need a good sheer lip balm to come to my rescue. The Soultree Viola & Kokum Butter Lip Balm is what is currently nourishing my lips and I am absolutely loving it!

Soultree Viola & Kokum Butter Lip Balm | Review

This lovely lip balm looks mauvish pink in the tube but does not impart any color to the lips. However, it is top notch in the hydration department and leaves my lips feeling moisturized for hours, without any greasiness or stickiness. When freshly applied, it smells like the coconut toffees that every kid in India consumed during the 90’s but the scent disappears soon and it does not have any discernible taste either. The formula contains Ghee, which is known to lighten pigmented lips while hydrating them, as well as a blend of seven organic oils and Kokum Butter. It is also free of parabens, sulfates, lead, and petroleum, and is a vegetarian product.

Soultree Viola & Kokum Butter Lip Balm | Review

I love the softness that this lip balm imparts to my lips as well as the longevity of the product (I only apply it twice a day). The violet and brown packaging has also stolen my heart, although the cap does not click shut, which means that the cap may come off if not stored carefully and the lip balm may collect dust and grime. Other than this flaw in the packaging, I absolutely adore this product and feel that the price tag of INR 295 for 3.5 gms of lip balm is completely justified. This is definitely going to be my autumn-winter staple and if you are a lip balm snob just like me then you should also get your hands on this product asap!

Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm | Review

If you are a fan of the old school tubes of lip treatments then you will definitely love the Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm. This product stands out among the tubs and sticks due to its unique packaging. In the age of creamy, solid balms, this product brings a refreshing change with its glossy, almost oily texture. In fact, I would say that it is an affordable alternative to the luxurious lip oils that have made an entry into the makeup world.

Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm Packaging

Just like all the other products from Anatomicals, this one comes in a vibrant and quirky packaging that is bound to liven up your vanity. Texturewise, it is like an oily lip gloss, but in a good way. As it is a liquid and not a traditional balm, you will need to reapply it every 2-3 hours to keep your lips moisturized. It is not very intensely moisturizing or thick, instead, it leaves your lips lightly hydrated and glossy. As an added bonus, it smells like coconuts, a perfect scent for summer!

Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm Swatch Review

Priced at INR 399 for a 15ml tube, I think this lip balm is a good investment for those who do not like the feel of thick balms on their lips. It doubles up as a clear lip gloss and provides a juicy look to the lips. If you are a lip balm junkie, this product will definitely add some variation to your collection!

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick 109 | Review

Warm weather for me is synonymous with coral lips and loose sundresses. Coral is the perfect blend of orange, red, and pink, which looks great on all skin tones. My favorite coral lipstick for this time of the year is the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in the shade 109 (Rossetto).

IMG_8032.JPG

First of all, the packaging of this lipstick is to die for. I love the combination of red and black and the signature with the tiny heart. However, some other shades of Kate Moss lipsticks come in the same packaging and it is a bit hard to tell them apart without uncapping them. I don’t mind doing that in the least because they look so stunning!

IMG_8040.JPG

The color itself is a muted orange with hints of red. It is definitely a warm toned coral and therefore goes very well with Indian skin tones. The formula is creamy and buildable. One swipe will give you an almost opaque look but two swipes are needed for the perfect pigmentation. I would call it a comfortable semi-matte texture, with a small amount of shine. It lasts on the lips for around 5-6 hours but fades a little by this time and some of the product may settle in the cracks of the lips.

IMG_8049.JPG

Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of this product, as I am with all the other Rimmel lipsticks I have tried so far. Its pleasant scent is the only thing that reminds me that I have lipstick on, it is that comfortable to wear! Priced at INR 275, this lipstick is definitely a steal and a must have for the summer months!

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Berry Strudel | Review

This season is all about experimenting with unique lip colors, from bright blues to neon oranges. However, I feel that one unusual lip color that I am brave enough to sport on my lips is purple. If you are looking for a blue toned purple to add a pop of color to your face then I will suggest going with the NYX Intense Butter Gloss in the shade Berry Strudel.

IMG_7811.JPG

This lip gloss lives up to its name and provides intense pigmentation while leaving the lips soft like butter. I admit that this color looks a bit scary in the hand swatch but when you apply it on the lips some of the natural pink color of the lips peeks through, making this purple a bit more wearable. Since it is a lip gloss and not a liquid lipstick, the finish is not fully opaque but is shiny and semi-opaque instead. This kind of a finish is actually good for those who are experimenting with bold colors for the first time because it softens the look. If you wish, you can add a few more layers for a fully opaque look.

IMG_7840.JPG

Also, unlike liquid lipsticks, this gloss is easier to apply and more comfortable to wear. It has a decent longevity of around 3-4 hours as well. It also has a strong scent of some sort of a dessert, which I quite enjoy.

IMG_7798.JPG

I love that this product provides hydration as well as bold color, a combination that is hard to find. Priced at INR 575, the range includes a bunch of different colors to choose from but I think that this purple shade is perfect for adding some brightness to your outfits for spring and summer.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Soothing and Repairing Lip Balm | Review

An annoying thing about some lip balms is that they can be quite thick and can cling to the chapped portions of the lips. Not a pretty look for lips that are already dry and damaged. If you face this problem with your lip balms then you might want to give the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Lip Balm a shot. Bear in mind that this lip balm is expensive and will set you back INR 490 for 4.7ml of the product, so if you are happy with your current lip balm then there is no need to spend so much money. However, if you feel that most lip balms do not sit right on your lips then this investment might be worth it.

IMG_7616

The formula is super nourishing and has a slightly oily feel to it, but in a good way. It gets absorbed quickly and leaves a very thin layer of the product on the lips that stays there for 4-5 hours. It is a transparent lip balm that imparts a natural shine to the lips without exaggerating the cracks and patches. I would not recommend applying a lip color on top of this one because things could get a little slippery. It is better to use this on the no makeup days or as an overnight lip treatment.

IMG_7623.JPG

The lip balm has some great ingredients such as shea butter, glycerin, and vitamin E and does not contain any parabens. The formula also contains the famous Vichy Thermal Spa Water and is hypoallergenic, making it perfect for those with super sensitive lips. I like the mild fragrance and the light texture of this lip balm for the summer months and it has become a staple for me. Other than the price which is quite steep, this could be a game changer for those of you whose lips simply do not cooperate!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in #122 Stylish | Review

Sometimes the nude lip colors can be a bit too pale or brown. There are days when you need your lips to look naturally healthy and have a slightly reddish undertone. The Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in the shade 122 Stylish will not disappoint you on such occasions.

IMG_7582.JPG

I am a huge fan of the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipsticks in general as they are incredibly moisturizing yet stay on the lips for quite some time. This shade is no exception and I do not need to reapply for 3-4 hours. The formula is quite smooth and provides a semi-opaque finish in one swipe. It is a dusty red color with multi-colored shimmer that looks quite subtle on the lips.

IMG_7585.JPG

I reach for this shade when I do not want a very bold look but don’t want my lips to look pale either. You can get away without a lip balm with this product, provided that you do not have severely chapped lips. It offers mild hydration and has a sweet, coconutty scent.

IMG_7566.JPG

The best part about this lipstick is that it is priced at only INR 250! I think that the Rimmel lipsticks are quite underrated in India. They offer unmatchable quality for the price and come in a ton of different colors and finishes. Do give this one a try if you are looking for a comfortable to wear, foolproof nude red lipstick.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Balm | Review

My lip issues first made an appearance when I was in college. It was the first time that I experienced dark, flaky patches all over my lips that looked horrendous! I tried a bunch of lip balms but everything failed at providing a permanent cure. After doing a lot of research I tried applying Vitamin E oil and that was the only thing that helped with the situation. However, the process was quite messy because I used to punch holes in Vitamin E capsules to extract the oil. Therefore, The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture-Protect Lip Care is a great alternative for long term usage.

IMG_6865.JPG

This lip balm is infused with Vitamin E and is extremely nourishing and hydrating. The texture is not too heavy and the product can be applied underneath lipstick. It can also be worn on its own for a transparent, natural shine. As an added bonus, the formula has SPF 15 too, which is so important for the lips. The only thing that I do not like about this lip balm is that the smell and taste is a bit strange, but nothing too repulsive either.

IMG_6870.JPG

Priced at INR 350 for a 4.2 gm twist up packaging, the product is slightly expensive but an excellent investment if nothing seems to be curing your pigmented, chapped lips.
