This post may not be useful for a majority of the readers but I thought that my non-Indian friends can read it to learn more about the Indian culture! Today I will talk about the Coloressence Aqua Sindoor – for those of you who are not aware, sindoor is a red colored pigment that some married women in India wear on their forehead as shown in the picture below.
Traditionally, sindoor is a red colored powder made using a combination of herbs, but in the modern times, most women prefer a liquid version because it is more convenient to use and easier to travel with. There are several brands of liquid sindoor available in the market but the only one I trust completely is the Coloressence Aqua Sindoor. This product comes in two shades, Red and Maroon, but I feel that the vibrant red goes better with my skin tone.
What I love about this product is that it does not dry up over time. My last bottle performed as well after a year as it did when I had freshly purchased it. I also love the doe foot applicator that helps with precise application and of course, the super opaque, bright red pigment. The packaging states that the product contains turmeric and sandalwood which are supposed to cool the skin and I do feel a slight cooling sensation when I apply it on my forehead.
This product has excellent longevity and does not budge all day long unless exposed to water. It is perfect for the working women who need a fuss free and long lasting liquid sindoor. Also, it is priced at INR 105 for 6ml of product which will last you for 6 months at the very least. This product comes highly recommended from my end and I would encourage all new brides who are not aware of sindoor brands to give Coloressence a chance!
I hope that this review was helpful. You can buy the Coloressence Aqua Sindoor in the shade Red from this link.
You may or may not like makeup but everyone needs a little bit of skincare, and the more natural your skincare products are, the better. This is why I was extremely thrilled to receive two amazing face washes from Aaranyaa, a brand that relies on natural ingredients to bring out the radiance of the skin. Aaranyaa sent me their anti bacterial Neem Tulsi Face Wash, as well as their Tea Tree Face Wash, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I have been carefully testing out these products from the past few days and here are my thoughts on both of them.
Aaranyaa Neem Tulsi Face Wash – This face wash comes in a bright green packaging and is meant for combination to oily skin. It contains the goodness of Neem and Tulsi, which are known to have powerful anti bacterial properties and are excellent at combatting acne. The product comes in the form of a clear green gel and has a herbal smell. It lathers quite easily and cleanses the skin very effectively. It leaves my face feeling fresh and squeaky clean, without a stretchy feeling that some face washes tend to cause. I have noticed that this product keeps the oil under check for at least 4-5 hours and I believe that with regular usage, it might completely eliminate excessive oil production. This face wash is an excellent option for those with regular hormonal breakouts because it is not overly drying yet removes the greasiness very effectively.
Aaranyaa Tea Tree Face Wash – The Tea Tree Face Wash is meant for normal to dry skin and contains tea tree oil, which is an all in one cure for most skin issues. This face wash is gentler on the skin than the Neem Tulsi one and it leaves the skin more hydrated. I am thoroughly impressed that Aaranya has created a face wash with tea tree oil which is suitable for dry skin because most tea tree oil ranges that I have encountered are meant for oily skin. I usually have oily skin but sometimes I suffer from dry patches and this face wash is perfect for those days. In fact, I even asked a few friends with dry skin to try this out and they loved it! The antibacterial properties of tea tree oil in a moisturizing face wash is something new for me and I am enjoying it a lot. As an added bonus, this face wash has a citrusy scent and a cool green packaging which I absolutely adore!
These face washes are priced at INR 195 for a 110 ml tube and are perfect for daily use because they are Sulphate Free. I am so glad that I got an opportunity to try out this new brand and I will definitely be purchasing more products from their collection. If you enjoy herbal skincare then these face washes will surely impress you, and with two different face washes for different skin types, there is something for everyone. I honestly do not have anything negative to say about these face washes and I am in skincare heaven right now! 🙂
You can buy these wonderful products at Aaranyaa’s website. I am sure you will love them as much as I do.
I live by the philosophy that you can never have enough nude lipsticks in your collection, which is why I recently purchased the Nykaa So Matte Lipstick in the shade Taupe Thrill. I have already raved about the Nykaa So Matte Spiced Cabernet Lipstick in a previous blog post, and knew that this is a formula that I can trust, therefore I decided to opt for a lighter, more day-appropriate shade this time.
The shade Taupe Thrill (12M) is a brownish pink which will look flattering on most Indian skin tones. The formula is an opaque, creamy matte that looks slightly glossy under bright lights. The fact that it is not a flat matte makes it more comfortable to wear and in fact, it seems to hydrate my lips as well. It is not heavily perfumed like some of the other drugstore lipsticks, which makes it more suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Not only is the packaging extremely luxurious (square packaging with a magnetic closure!) but the formula is reminiscent of high-end lipsticks as well. Despite being a lighter shade and having a creamy consistency, this lipstick lasts on my lips for a good 6-7 hours and has also survived multiple rounds of digging into greasy food! It seems like Nykaa has taken a cue from MAC when it comes to the longevity of the product 🙂
Priced at INR 399, these lipsticks are definitely a bargain and the shade Taupe Thrill is a no-fail color that is suitable for all occasions. You can also look at the darker/brighter shades available in the range if nude lips are not your thing. Overall, both the color and the texture of this lipstick gets 5 stars from me 🙂
If you are a fan of the old school tubes of lip treatments then you will definitely love the Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm. This product stands out among the tubs and sticks due to its unique packaging. In the age of creamy, solid balms, this product brings a refreshing change with its glossy, almost oily texture. In fact, I would say that it is an affordable alternative to the luxurious lip oils that have made an entry into the makeup world.
Just like all the other products from Anatomicals, this one comes in a vibrant and quirky packaging that is bound to liven up your vanity. Texturewise, it is like an oily lip gloss, but in a good way. As it is a liquid and not a traditional balm, you will need to reapply it every 2-3 hours to keep your lips moisturized. It is not very intensely moisturizing or thick, instead, it leaves your lips lightly hydrated and glossy. As an added bonus, it smells like coconuts, a perfect scent for summer!
Priced at INR 399 for a 15ml tube, I think this lip balm is a good investment for those who do not like the feel of thick balms on their lips. It doubles up as a clear lip gloss and provides a juicy look to the lips. If you are a lip balm junkie, this product will definitely add some variation to your collection!
Epilation is one of the less common techniques used for hair removal by Indian women. A one-time investment in a good epilator can completely eliminate the need to rush to salons and is also very helpful for those who travel a lot. Although I do not epilate on a regular basis, I do own the Philips Satinelle Essential Epilator kit (BRE201/00) and thought that I should share my review of this device with you.
What Does The Kit Contain – The kit contains the epilator body, one epilator head, one razor head, one epilator cap to cover the tweezers at the end for precise usage, one razor cap for protection while storage, one brush for cleaning, and one power adapter. The brush helps in removing the fine hairs that may get stuck in the heads and the heads can also be cleaned under running water.
Performance – The epilator works quite well, it removes all the hair from the skin if you bring it close to the skin and move it slowly, against the direction of growth. It does hurt almost as much as waxing and leaves my skin a little red, but the pain becomes less noticeable with regular usage. Make sure to not go over the same area again and again as it may lead to irritated skin. I use it primarily on my legs and arms and it gives a similar performance and regrowth time as waxing.
The razor head offers the option of converting the epilator into an electric razor, which makes this product so versatile. It comes in handy for touch-ups and is also very useful if you prefer to shave certain parts of your body instead of waxing or tweezing. It provides a close shave and leaves the skin non-irritated and smooth.
The Downside – The only con of this product is that it cannot be operated with a battery, and you need to plug it in every time you use it. Although the cord of the power adapter is pretty long, it means that you cannot epilate in your bathroom in case there is no plug point in there and you most definitely cannot epilate in your bath tub!
The Verdict – This epilation kit is priced at approximately INR 3000 in India, which I feel is quite good, considering that it also includes a razor head. It is easy to use and performs as per expectation, the only hassle being the presence of a power cord. I would recommend purchasing this if you want an alternative to waxing. It will last you for years and you can use it regularly for hair removal at home or only when you are traveling. The convenience that it provides definitely makes it worth the money!
Smooth and glossy hair have always been a cult favorite but we all go through those Bohemian phases when we can’t do without some texture in our tresses. The Loreal Professionnel Tecni Art Constructor is a great way to add a subtle hold to your hair, without weighing them down with too much product.
This hair spray has a thermo-active formula, which means that it gets activated by heat. You can spray this product on the sections of your dry or damp hair and can proceed to tease them with the help of a hair dryer. It offers protection from the heat and provides a medium hold to the hair, without making them crunchy. You will not be able to obtain dramatic volume or texture with this product but it helps to slightly lift the roots and removes the “sleekness” to add some body to your locks. It has a mild fragrance that doesn’t last for too long after usage. I haven’t used it while straightening or curling my hair but I have heard that it works well with those styling tools too.
Overall, I think that this product is excellent for providing some volume to the hair without going too overboard. However, a 150ml can is priced at more than INR 1000 in India, which I feel is quite steep for a hair spray. There are more affordable options from Toni & Guy that do a similar job but in case you find it at a cheaper price where you live then you might enjoy this product if you like light weight hair sprays.
Hair serum is a product that is an essential component of most people’s beauty routine. However, as of late, I have observed that the prices of hair serums have been steadily increasing. If you are looking for an affordable hair serum for regular usage, something that gets the job done without leaving you broke, then you have come to the right place!
The Streax Pro Vita Gloss Hair Serum is my recommendation to those who wish to add some smoothness to their hair after washing. It does not work miracles, but definitely reduces frizziness and adds a pleasant smell to the hair. It works pretty well with mildly tangled hair but may not be able to remove stubborn knots. I primarily use it for adding nourishment to the ends of my hair.
The formula has a thin consistency, almost like water, which means that the product spreads evenly on the hair, offering a slight glossiness to the ends. The best thing about the packaging is that it has a pump, which prevents wastage of product and makes sure that you use just the right amount. A little goes a long way with this serum so I would advise using half a pump if you have thin hair and one pump in case you have voluminous hair.
A 100ml bottle of this serum is priced at INR 185 but can be purchased for INR 150 from online stores. This is an extremely affordable product that works as well as some of the fancier hair serums. Furthermore, one bottle lasts for a very long time, which makes this hair serum even more pocket-friendly. It feels so good to find a product that offers great performance at a drugstore price!
I recently won the Fresh Hair Anywhere giveaway hosted by Batiste India and received the Batiste Clean and Classic Original Dry Shampoo as the prize. The timing of winning this product was perfect because these days my hair is getting sweaty just a few hours after washing, thanks to the Indian summer.
This dry shampoo is as good as the other ones that I have tried from Batiste and has a fresh, borderline floral scent. You just need to spray some product on your greasy roots from a distance and massage it in for hair that can pass off as freshly washed. I have used it on really greasy and dirty hair and it did not disappoint at all. Frequent washing and blow-drying can make the hair dry and brittle but this dry shampoo makes it bouncy and slightly shinier too!
Bear in mind that the product is white in color, so brush it really well to get rid of the white cast. If you use the right amount, this should not take much effort. Overall I am quite pleased with this product and will definitely be using it throughout the summer. Priced at INR 649 for a 200ml can, it does not even burn a hole in the pocket, which is always a good thing. Do give this product a shot if you want to break out of the vicious cycle of washing your hair every single day!

Sometimes, Genies do exist in bottles, and if you do not believe me then try out this shampoo for evidence. The Loreal Paris Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo lives up to its claims of providing a new-found volume to your hair. This magical potion contains the revolutionary ingredient called Filloxane which is supposed to penetrate the hair and provide them with a long-lasting thickness and bounce.
I have very fine limp hair that becomes extremely oily at the roots within a day of washing but this shampoo salvages my hair from all these problems. I could see a visible improvement in the volume at the roots from the very first wash and it further increased after a couple of washes. When I stopped using this shampoo I noticed a significant decrease in the thickness of the strands, so clearly this product does make a difference.
The formula has the typical Loreal scent which does not linger on after rinsing. It is white and has a liquid (but not runny) consistency that provides great lather. It does leave the hair slightly dry and lacking in the moisture department, but with my oily hair, it is perfect.
The range also includes a conditioner, a mask, a thickness booster and a leave in serum. I have tried the conditioner as well but feel that the shampoo is more potent when it comes to adding volume. Unfortunately, this range has not been launched in India and therefore purchasing it on amazon.com or eBay is the only way that I can get my hands on it. Although the range is available at drugstore prices in the UK (£3.50 for a 400 ml bottle), due to the import cost and shipping charges I have to shell out around INR 2000 for the same :(. I wish that the range gets released in India soon so that I can purchase the entire set of products without exhausting my bank balance! I highly recommend this product to add life to limp hair, this is indeed a game changer when it comes to volume.
When it comes to neutral lip colors, the right shade varies a lot based on different skin tones and I believe that very few mauve lip products are really neutral enough for Indian skin tones. This lip duo is my go to combo for achieving perfect neutral lips with a pinkish-mauve undertone. The duo comprises of the Wet n Wild ColorIcon Lip Liner in the shade 715 Plumberry and the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 180 Vintage Pink.
This combination works together perfectly, giving a creamy, slightly glossy, mauvish look to the lips. The liner is a smooth, pinkish brown which can easily be worn on its own as a matte neutral color.
The lipstick, on the other hand, is a slightly lighter pink with a mauvish undertone, which is a bit too light to pass off as a neutral shade for my lips on its own. The formula of the lipstick lives up to its name and is very moisturizing and comfortable to wear. The liner drastically extends the life of the lipstick to a good 6 hours although it does transfer on eating or drinking. The shade Vintage Pink has been hailed as an affordable dupe for MAC’s Velvet Teddy, but I haven’t tried the MAC shade so I can’t vouch for that personally. I also love the classic Rimmel shiny purple packaging because it adds a little something to the vanity.
The Rimmel lipstick is available at a really affordable price of INR 500 whereas the Wet n Wild liner is not available in India as far as I know, but can be ordered from international sites like amazon.com for around $5. The price of the products is very reasonable and yet they provide the final finish of a high-end lipstick. I think this shade would look very flattering on a wide range of skin tones. I wear this combo on a regular basis but I am hoping to try out some more colors from these brands soon!

When it comes to face products, Loreal products seem to work the best for me and the Loreal Paris True Match Concealer is no exception to the rule. It is my holy grail concealer for both spots and the under eye area; no makeup look of mine is complete without this product.
I am the shade N4-5 (Light/Medium) but there is one darker and one lighter shade available in India so you can mix and match to your skin tone.
I really like the fact that this product provides medium to full coverage and is extremely buildable and blendable with a brush or even fingers. The formula has a not too runny liquid consistency and isn’t thick and cakey like most full coverage concealers. I am a huge fan of liquid concealer anyway because stick concealers tend to settle into my pores, which completely defeats their purpose. The concealer stays put on my face for around 3-4 hours without any makeup spray.
The packaging is a small tube-like bottle and depending on where I buy it from the applicator is either a doe foot one or a tiny brush. I personally prefer the brush applicator because it seems to apply the product more evenly and helps with blending it in seamlessly. The tiny packaging is easy to fit into a clutch or pocket and the formula is great for touch-ups throughout the day without making your skin look odd and patchy.
The product is priced at INR 945 for a 5.2 ml bottle but is usually available for around INR 700 on online portals. I would say that the price may seem a little high but a concealer can completely make or break any look so a reliable concealer is worth the splurge. This is the only product that I have been purchasing regularly for the past six years and have had no regrets at all 🙂
My hunt for the blackest black long lasting eyeliner ended when I stumbled upon this wonderful find at the Loreal counter. The Loreal Paris Liner Magique is indeed magical, it is the perfect glossy black eyeliner that stays intact on my lids for up to 12 hours!
The formula is an intense glossy black that retains its glossiness throughout the day, it also lives up to its claims of being smudge proof and water resistant, which pleasantly surprised me.
The applicator is a flexible sponge one that can be used for drawing a precise, thin line as well as a thicker cat eye look. The formula dries within seconds on the lid but retains its original consistency in the packaging for months. Once dry, the liner does not budge even after vigorous rubbing and also remains flawless underneath water (provided you do not touch it while it’s wet :)). Despite being waterproof, the liner comes off easily on rubbing gently with makeup remover, which is a blessing for people like me with sensitive eyes.
The product is priced at INR 399 for a 3gm bottle, which I feel is quite good for Loreal considering that you need only a single swipe to get an opaque finish. I am very impressed that a drugstore liner can provide such longevity at an affordable price.
