If there is one brand which has gained a lot of recognition within a few months of its inception and rightfully so, it is MamaEarth. By now, many of you must be aware that this brand not only makes safe and effective products for babies and mamas, it also has an expanding skincare range that can be used by all women. One of their latest launches is a range of face washes, and I couldn’t resist myself from buying their Charcoal Face Wash that claims to provide pollution defence and control excess oil production. So did the product live up to its claims? Read on to find out!
This face wash contains two of my favourite skincare ingredients – activated charcoal and coffee. It is hypoallergenic and free of SLS and Parabens, thereby making it safe for all types of skin. The formula is black and slightly runny in consistency, it lathers quite easily and sucks out the grease and gunk from the skin quite efficiently. After using the product, my skin feels squeaky clean and even has a slight glow. Since the product is meant for oil control, it can be a little drying if you don’t have oily skin but works really well at keeping my combination skin shine-free for several hours. The activated charcoal does a fine job at thoroughly cleansing the skin while the coffee helps remove dead cell and restore the natural radiance of the skin. Other key ingredients include aloe vera extracts, tea tree oil, and light kaolin which definitely help at cleansing the pores while leaving the skin hydrated. The face wash has a very natural scent that reminds me of tea tree oil and charcoal, which means that the brand has not added any strong perfume in the formula, thereby making it suitable for sensitive skin.
The packaging is in the form of a sturdy tube with a flip cap that clicks into place, preventing any leakage, and a 100ml tube is priced at INR 249. This product is slightly expensive but is definitely worth the investment for those with greasy and acne-prone skin, especially those with a busy lifestyle. This face wash receives 5 sparkling stars from me and I am excited to try out other face washes from the brand really soon!
If you are an avid stalker of celebrity skincare secrets then you must have heard of the benefits of Rosehip Seed Oil by now. This multi-tasking skincare ingredient is what you need in your life if you are on the wrong side of 25 and your skin is beginning to age. To find out what the hype over this oil was all about, I recently picked up the Ryaal Rosehip Seed Oil and here is how this product fared for me.
This 100% pure rosehip seed essential oil comes in the classic Ryaal packaging – a blue bottle with a dropper. The product itself is a golden oil with a nutty fragrance that is not too thick and sinks into the skin pretty quickly. It does leave behind a slightly oily cast on the skin but nothing too stark – you can pair it with a mattifying day cream or foundation during the day and use it as a part of your moisturising routine at night without looking like a grease ball (unless you have extremely oily skin to begin with).
Coming to the properties of the product, rosehip seed oil indeed does it all! It is rich in fatty acids, Vitamin A and Vitamin C and acts as a moisturiser as well as a toner. I have been using this oil as a part of my moisturising routine (post toning) and have noticed its exfoliating properties already. It has a noticeable peeling action and I could see that my dead skin was flaking off faster than usual while my pimples seemed to dry up more quickly. My skin also looked smoother than usual, which could be due to the fact that rosehip seed oil diminishes pores and plumps up the skin to prevent the appearance of wrinkles. I know that it sounds too good to be true, but if you religiously incorporate this facial oil in your skincare routine then I am sure that you will observe such positive results too.
Overall, I do not have anything negative to say about this product. It is quite affordable at INR 289 for a 15ml bottle that will last you for months if used in the right quantity. My skin has been behaving really well since I started using this oil and it is perhaps the most enjoyable part of my skincare routine at the moment. If you have been suffering from dry or dull skin and are looking for a multi-tasking solution then you must try out this gem of a product!
If you are looking for a skincare brand with excellent ingredients to repair and brighten the skin then you don’t have to look any further than Tvakh. All the products from this brand have ingredients comparable to those of high-end brands but at mid-range, affordable prices. The recent addition to my Tvakh collection is their Antioxidant Night Repair Creme, and even though I have only used it for a few weeks, I can already feel this product working, so I wanted to share my thoughts about this cream with you.
This product is basically a night cream and overnight treatment/mask combined in one. It has a very interesting and unique moussey texture with some gritty particles embedded in it. Upon application, the particles do exfoliate the skin a bit, which may not be suitable for sensitive skin, but the cream in itself is very light-weight and sinks into the skin pretty quickly. The ingredient list contains some powerful anti-oxidants, such as Vitamin C, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Grape seed extract and naturally derived coenzyme Q10 that help with reversing photo-ageing and the damage caused to the skin by environmental factors, by helping in skin-cell regeneration.
I apply a thick layer of the product to my face and neck before going to bed and wake up with smoother, plumper, and brighter looking skin in the morning. The effects are definitely visible within a few days, which is extremely impressive for a night cream. This cream will definitely help those with dull and slightly wrinkled skin by restoring the youthfulness of their face. However, do remember that this cream contains chemical exfoliants, like Vitamin C, so if you haven’t incorporated such products in your skincare before then do perform a patch test and start with using this product once a week and slowly increase the frequency of usage. Other than that, in my opinion, this cream should suit everyone except those with really dry or sensitive skin because it is not extremely hydrating and does tingle a bit on application. Also, the smell is a little weird but goes away within a minute of application, so I don’t really get bothered by it.
Overall, I am super happy with this night cream for my skin type and am pretty pleased to wake up to healthy looking skin every morning. The packaging is quite sturdy and travel-friendly and you get 30gms of the product for INR 745, which is quite affordable when compared to similar products in the market. Overall, if you have dull skin and are starting to notice the first signs of ageing then you should consider trying out this cream to nip the skin issues in the bud, and if you are a lover of Vitamin C then you must purchase this cream asap, I am sure you will love it 🙂
So I recently received a few products from Fabeya, a natural skincare brand that has a wide range of face and body scrubs and gels with fascinating ingredients catering to different skin types, and I immediately fell in love with everything in the package. I received the Activated Charcoal Face & Body Scrub, the Organic Papaya Gel, and the Apple Cider Vinegar Body Scrub & Polish, and all three products are made with natural, no-nonsense ingredients, with no parabens, sulphates, alcohol, phthalates, or artificial colours in them. Not only are these products a perfect example of the clean skincare I have been talking about these days, they are also perfect for the hot and sultry Indian summer. So without much ado, here are my thoughts on these three gems.
Activated Charcoal is a skincare ingredient that probably needs no introduction. Everybody knows about its efficacy at sucking out all the gunk from the pores, leaving the skin squeaky clean. However, what makes the Fabeya Activated Charcoal Face and Body Scrub Unique is the fact that it is super creamy and extremely gentle compared to any other activated charcoal products that I have tried. Most charcoal products are not suitable for those with dry or sensitive skin, but this soothing scrub with tiny exfoliating particles should suit all skin types. As I mentioned, the product is super creamy and hydrating and offers a cooling sensation to the skin while the tiny beads provide mild exfoliation. It is an extremely comforting product to use at the end of a long day and leaves the skin looking brighter, rejuvenated and bump-free. This is probably my favourite product out of the three and I will definitely recommend it to everybody.
The Fabeya Organic Papaya Gel is a soothing, light-weight gel with a delicious fruity scent. Papaya is known for its calming and brightening properties, which makes this gel perfect as an after-sun treatment. Just pop it in the fridge for some time and then apply a generous layer to your sun-burnt skin, the gel will cool down the skin and reverse the sun damage at the same time. You can also use this as the last step in your nighttime skincare routine to seal all the serums and creams in place, or can apply it as a soothing face mask for around 5-10 minutes and then rinse with some water. This product is perfect for those with sensitive or extremely oily skin as it hydrates and brightens without being too heavy. If your skin is suffering from the harsh summer sunlight then you must incorporate this product into your skincare routine.
Apple Cider Vinegar is packed with a ton of benefits for the skin, is rich in anti-toxins, and is supposed to be excellent at fighting acne and brightening the skin. The Fabeya Apple Cider Vinegar Body Scrub & Polish is the first apple cider vinegar scrub that I have tried and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. The product comes in the form of a hydrating cream with tiny walnut shell particles embedded in it. The scrub particles are gritty enough to remove dead skin, ingrown hair, or a tan with ease without being extremely harsh. The cream in itself has a mild cooling effect on the skin and leaves the skin looking visibly smoother and brighter after each use without making it dry. This product is excellent for taking care of the skin of the body, which often gets neglected when compared to the skin of the face.
Needless to say, I am in love with all the three products and will definitely be trying out more products from Fabeya. All their products come in gigantic 340 ml tubs that are priced around the INR 400 mark, but are currently available on Amazon at INR 299. Affordable and all-natural skincare couldn’t get any better than this. So if you are looking for smooth, healthy-looking and bright skin this summer then do give Fabeya a shot, I am sure you won’t be disappointed!
As I promised/warned earlier, I am back with the review of yet another Plum product. The Plum Green Tea Range has been around for quite some time and I have tried and really enjoyed their face lotion in the past, which is why I decided to give the Green Tea Pore-Cleansing Face Wash a go. This face wash is a blogger favourite, and here is what this blogger feels about it.
Similar to the Green Tea Lotion, this face wash is gentle, light, and refreshing. It is a clear gel-based face wash with some mild exfoliating beads embedded in it. It cleanses the skin really well but does not leave it feeling dry or stretchy. The green beads are made of cellulose and provide some extremely gentle scrubbing action which will be suitable even for sensitive skin. I also love the scent of this product range because it helps me feel more awake in the mornings.
This face wash is perfect as a daily face wash for those with normal to combination, acne-prone skin. It contains glycolic acid that is great at removing dead skin, and combined with the anti-oxidising properties of green tea, it will keep your skin acne free and will gradually lighten any acne scars too. I will say however that since it is a non-drying formula, it may be a little less effective at removing all the grease from extremely oily skin, but it works perfectly well for my combination skin.
As we are moving towards the warmer months, those with acne-prone skin will begin to struggle with more frequent breakouts. From my experience, I will recommend using the entire Green Tea range from Plum (cleansing, toning, and moisturising), to keep the acne at bay. The face wash is priced at INR 345 for 75 ml of product, which is not too expensive considering the quality, but you can also buy the whole bundle of the green tea range at a more affordable price. So do check out this range if you haven’t already and you can thank me later 🙂
I strongly believe that sunscreen is the skin’s best friend and have tried a good number of sunscreens in my life, however, I had never tried anything from the Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Range even though I had heard great things about the products. I decided to finally rectify this and grabbed the Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Cucumber Sunscreen Lotion, and here is what I think about it.
There is a wide range of Aroma Magic sunscreens available in the market, with varying SPF values and consistencies. I chose the cucumber lotion because it seemed like the perfect choice for the upcoming warm season and also because I prefer a sunblock with a minimum SPF of 30. This lotion is light-weight and liquidy, it spreads like a dream on the skin and gets absorbed quickly, leaving the skin hydrated but not greasy at all – exactly what I look for in a sunscreen.
The product is an all natural mineral formula and has an earthy herbal scent that I quite like. It provides protection against UVA and UVB and also claims to lighten pigmentation. I am not too sure about the second claim though because I haven’t used the lotion long enough. It is also not waterproof, which is fine by me but may bother those who live in extremely humid regions. What I love though is that the lotion provides a semi-matte finish on the face and makeup sits really well on top of it.
The presence of nourishing ingredients such as wheatgerm, coconut, and soyabean oils as well as anti-ageing skin foods such as Vitamins B5, C, and E makes this sunscreen lotion a lot more than just a sunscreen, it is basically a wonderful day cream for normal to oily skin. The description at the back of the tube shows how much thought has actually gone into making this product and it is unbelievable that it is priced at an extremely affordable INR 160 for a 50ml tube.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this sunscreen lotion and can foresee that I will be going through multiple tubes of the product this summer. I absolutely love the quirky packaging, the affordable price point, the light-weight consistency, and the matte finish of this lotion and would highly recommend it to those who suffer from greasy skin. Now I know what the fuss is all about and absolutely stand by the words of those who sing praises of this sunscreen lotion!
Unless you are living under a rock, you must have heard by now that the Maybelline Gigi Hadid collection has finally launched in India. When I saw the international reviews of this collection, I felt that the range was just a marketing gimmick – old products in new packaging, and decided that I will not give in to the beauty of the blush-colored products. However, when I heard both Shreya Jain and Corallista talk about the Matte Lipstick in the shade Erin, I was sucked in! This lipstick is the classic example of “YouTube made me buy it”. Read on to find out whether I loved or regretted the purchase.
There is no denying that the packaging of the Gigi Hadid collection is BEAUTiful. The blush pink packaging is classic and feminine without being cheesy or too girly, and the lettering on the packaging, and even the cardboard box that holds the product, is holographic, making the entire process of unboxing and looking at the goodies inside all the more exciting. The actual lipstick is a gorgeous shade of deep mauve, with a very very faint trace of brown in it. This shade is more of a nudish mauve on my pigmented lips and medium skin tone, but on fairer Indian skin tones, it will look slightly bolder- a shade that you can wear when you want to make a statement without going overboard with a bright red or purple. This shade of mauve is quite unique, and will go well with neutral or cool toned makeup and outfits. Perhaps a little too deep for daily wear for some, but definitely a great choice for a day out or even an evening event.
The formula is one of the better lipstick formulas from Maybelline, it is intensely pigmented, offering opacity in one swipe, and has a creamy matte texture when swatched. On the lips, it gives a pure matte finish, while being comfortable and not drying the lips. It is not completely transfer-proof and will fade a little every time you eat or drink something, but it does fade gracefully and evenly. The pigmentation starts to fade after 3-4 hours of wear but does visibly stay put for around 6-7 hours. Overall, there is not much I can complain about regarding the formula, and I am sure all the matte lipstick lovers will agree.
While the other reds and nudes from the Gigi Hadid lipstick collection did not wow me, Erin, a gorgeous mauve, was definitely a good investment. The price point of INR 550 seems reasonable to me too. While I won’t be purchasing anything else from the range at the moment, I have heard good things about the eyeliner as well, and although these products were repackaged versions of existing products in the USA, for India these are new because the original products weren’t ever launched here. If I am to judge the collection based on this one lipstick, I would say that it is worth the money to try out a product or true, especially if you are a makeup enthusiast.
Acid peels do sound scary, but let me tell you, once you get hooked on acid exfoliation and see the results, you will be addicted for life! I started dabbling with mild acid peels and acid toners in 2017 and wanted to amp up my game in the new year, The Ordinary AHA+BHA Peeling Solution seemed like the best man for the job. This chemical peel has 30% AHA and 2% BHA that make it a pretty potent exfoliator, just what my skin needs at the moment.
Although the formula sounds a bit intimidating, I wasn’t very afraid of using the product because The Ordinary is one of the most trusted skincare brands in the world. Also, the colour of the formula is a deep beetroot red, but look beyond the scary shade and your skin will thank you later. The product comes in the form of a semi-viscous liquid which is meant to be used as a face mask for no longer than 10 minutes. Within these ten minutes, it provides deep exfoliation and leaves the skin looking glowy and smooth. While I have a bunch of products in my skincare stash that provide instant brightening, this one stands out because it also improves the texture of my skin, and managed to reduce the tiny bumps that I tend to get on my chin and nose with just one use. It makes my skin look more youthful, healthy, and well rested, something that every woman on the wrong side of 25 needs in her life 😛
I also love the apothecary style bottle that comes with a dropper that makes the product so easy to use. It makes me feel as if I am running a quirky science experiment on my own skin, which is kind of fun. A few words of caution though – if you are someone who has never tried acid exfoliation till date then this is probably not the best product to begin with because it is too strong. You may want to try out a milder acid based product first. Secondly, ALWAYS do a patch test on your elbow before you put something new on your face, especially if it is such a strong formula. Thirdly, acid exfoliation leaves the skin way more sensitive to the sun than usual, therefore, using a strong sunscreen every day is an absolute must once you start using acid based products. Lastly, I wouldn’t recommend this product to those with sensitive skin, because although it does not burn or irritate the skin, it does tingle a little bit. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, it is best to use this product only once or twice a month.
While this product is one I would definitely recommend, The Ordinary products are not so easy to get your hands on in India and their website charges insane amounts for shipping. I got mine from an Instagram store called imported_makeup that sells original products and I got the bottle for INR 1200, which seems like a good price for the product. So if you are in the mood for brighter, clearer, smoother skin this year then do give this baby a shot!
So I decided that I needed some glow on my face and went ahead and purchased the Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Vitamin Glotion. This face and body lotion is a fine concoction of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and grapefruit and mulberry extracts that brighten, repair and hydrate the skin. Basically, it contains everything you need to get that healthy winter glow and to keep the dryness at bay.
This product is quite unique from other face lotions because while it has the consistency and texture of a lotion, it provides the finish of an oil-based serum on the face. It is light-weight and fast absorbing like a lotion but extremely hydrating and nourishing like a facial oil. And yes, it does provide an instant glow to the face post application.
Although it sinks into the skin really quickly, the oily-skinned ladies need to be a little cautious with the amount they use, because it can give the face a greasy appearance if you use too much. I will recommend one pump for those with oily skin and two for those with extremely dry skin, for the entire face and neck. Also, this lotion is more suitable for the night time so that it gets ample time to work its magic and also because it can cause makeup to slide around if used in the day.
Overall, I like this product because it does what it claims to do and is a no-nonsense lotion in that aspect. It provides an instant glow, brightens the skin with regular usage, and definitely moisturises it really well. Also, with so many awesome ingredients in one bottle, you can’t really go wrong with this glotion. The price of INR 800 for a 50ml bottle, plus the shipping charges of INR 200 does make this product a tad expensive and I sincerely hope that the brand finds some way to reduce the shipping costs but other than that I do not have anything to complain about regarding this product. So if you are someone who is attracted to skin-loving vitamins like a magpie is to gold then you must get your hands on this gem.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream is something that I have been using for a long time, especially whenever I suffer from red and painful hormonal breakouts. When you have active acne on your face, you may not want to step out of the house with the redness showing but you would also not want to clog your pores with heavy makeup that will only make the situation worse. This BB cream is the perfect solution to the dilemma because it provides medium coverage while being light-weight and helps in shrinking the pimples because of the tea tree oil it contains.
I wear the shade 2 from the range which is the second darkest of the 3 shades available in India. This shade suits medium Indian skin tones pretty well and provides a decent coverage that will hide any redness or discoloration on the face. It has an almost matte finish on the skin and provides a smooth appearance to the face without settling in the creases or pores. I love the fact that the tea tree oil instantly cools the skin post-application, which is exactly what my skin needs when it’s suffering from an angry breakout. Its longevity is also decent and the cream lasts on my face for a good 6-8 hours with a setting powder on top.
Overall, I feel that this BB cream is an excellent alternative to a foundation for those who have acne prone skin and what a natural look with some coverage. Priced at INR 1095 for a travel-friendly tube that contains 40ml of the product, this BB cream is a little pricey but is honestly the only makeup product that I feel comfortable using when I have acne on my face. Do give it a shot if you want some coverage for your breakouts but want them to heal at the same time.
Can a girl ever have enough face washes in her skincare stash? No! Our skin always wants more pampering, which is why I was overjoyed when I was contacted by Estrella Professional to try out their Nutribios Natural Anti-Acne Neem Face Wash. I have been testing out this product over the past week or so and can’t wait to tell you guys more about this amazing face wash. But first, in case you do not know about Estrella, here are a few tit-bits about the brand.
About Estrella Professional – Estrella Professional is a well-known brand in the skincare, hair care, and body care space that has partnered with various salons and service providers in the past. Some of the partners that the brand is associated with include Naturals, Limelite, Essensuals by Toni & Guy, YLG, At Home Diva (Quikr) and Getlook. Recently, the brand has stepped into the consumer space as well, with a large number of products such as Face Washes, Cleansers, Day Creams, Night Serums, Shampoos, Hair Masques, Hair Serums, Body Butters and much more. The Estrella Nutribios Natural Anti-Acne Neem Face Wash is one such product from the consumer range that is currently available on Amazon.
About The Product–The Estrella Nutribios Natural Anti-Acne Neem Face Wash is a unique blend of herbs and natural ingredients that are known to heal acne scars and to eliminate pimples. This face wash contains Neem and Vetiver, that are known for their purifying properties, tea tree extracts, which are anti-inflammatory and extremely effective against acne, and cinnamon, which has anti-bacterial properties (check the image below for complete ingredient list). Together, these ingredients are claimed to control the production of sebum, reduce the appearance of acne, and lighten the scars left behind by pimples to reveal clearer and brighter skin.
My Experience With The Product–The first thing about this face wash that caught my attention even before I cracked open the packaging was the refreshing and almost citrusy scent of tea tree oil. This rejuvenating fragrance can be the perfect pick me up in the morning. The face wash itself is a clear gel with a green tint that has a semi-liquid consistency. It lathers really well on the skin and you do not need more than a tiny bit of the product for every wash. The formula is extremely gentle and does not cause any irritation to the skin or the eyes. Despite being so gentle on the face, the cleansing action of this product is commendable and it gets rid of any traces of makeup, oil, and sweat with extreme ease.
The face wash is also quite effective at sebum control and keeps my face shine-free for up to 6 hours. However, it does not dry out the skin at all and somehow manages to ensure that the skin retains the perfect amount of natural oils to look hydrated and glowing but not greasy. I also had a few bumps on my skin when I first started using this face wash which would normally have turned into horrible red pimples within a few days, but this product shrank the bumps and prevented a painful breakout. Overall, ever since I have started using the product, my skin has been extremely well behaved. Although the scars from previous breakouts have not vanished, they have definitely lightened slightly, and no new pimples have appeared on my face. I am happy to report that after using this facewash twice daily for about ten days, I feel confident to step out of the house without any face makeup 🙂
Overall Verdict – Not only has the performance of this face wash thoroughly impressed me, but the price point of INR 379 for a huge 200ml bottle is also very appealing. For a salon brand to bring out an extremely affordable homecare range is quite unique and impressive. This face wash is the perfect product for all those with oily to normal, acne-prone skin and it will not burn a hole in your pocket as well. If you compare it to similar products such as The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Face Wash, the Estrella face wash not only works much better on my skin but is also a fraction of the price of the former. Therefore, if you are looking for professional, reliable, and budget-friendly skincare then this face wash from Estrella Professional is a must buy for you!
I am a huge fan of loose powders because they blend so much better than powder compacts but carrying them in a handbag is a really bad idea and can end up being a messy affair. I do need to powder my nose throughout the day though, which is why I have to resort to throwing a powder compact into my purse. This pack of the Loreal Paris True Match powder has been with me for longer than I would like to admit, so let’s just quickly move on to its review 😛
This product comes in a pretty sturdy packaging which has two compartments. The first compartment contains the powder compact while the second one has a mirror and an applicator. The mirror is quite great, to be honest, and is perfect for touch-ups on the go, however, the applicator fails to impress. It is a square piece of some sort of a fluffy material which wears down pretty quickly. It is also not suitable for applying this kind of a product because you will have to go over it with a fluffy brush for a non-streaky finish on the skin.
As for the formula itself, it seems a little chalky while swatching but blends beautifully on the skin and provides a non-greasy, natural finish. It is decent at absorbing small amounts of oil but you will need to touch up more than once a day if you have very oily skin. I wouldn’t recommend piling on too much of the product in one go because it may start looking cakey. One thin layer of powder is best for a light coverage and a smooth finish.
I went for the shade N4 Beige but I feel that it is a teeny bit light for me. It is a pure beige colour which will suit those who do not have a yellowish undertone to their skin. For me, I think that the shade W5 Golden Sand would have worked better but I haven’t used it yet so I can’t say for sure. With a decent amount of blending, I can get away with wearing N4 too because the product mixes in with my foundation.
You can buy 9gms of this product for a price of INR 999 in India, which I believe is quite expensive for a powder compact. The quality of the mirror and the product is quite good but for the price, I would expect a better applicator too. I am not an expert when it comes to powder compacts but I am quite sure that cheaper products do exist in the market. I have heard that the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder is great, and it is available at only a quarter of the price. So, based on the price, I would recommend you guys to skip this product although the quality is pretty good.
I hope that this review was helpful. You can buy the Loreal True Match Powder in the shade N4 Beige here.
