If there is one haircare product that you should NEVER travel without, especially if you are a fine-haired, oily scalped gal like me, it is dry shampoo. When I was looking for a travel-sized dry shampoo from Batiste, I was disappointed to find out that they do not stock a mini of their Divine and Dark variant in India. Still being a loyal lover of Batiste, I picked up the mini that WAS available, the Fruity and Cheeky Cherry Variant. Here is why I love this dry shampoo as much as the other variants from Batiste that I have already reviewed on the blog.
First of all, let’s get this out of the way, I love the scent of cherry -so anything cherry-scented has to float my boat. Additionally, this particular dry shampoo, despite not being tinted, does not leave much white cast at all on the hair. The small amount of white cast that it does give can easily be taken care of by brushing the product through the hair. Also, it leaves 2nd-day hair looking extremely fresh and bouncy for the next two days, which is more than what I expect from a dry shampoo. This is definitely what you need when you are travelling to attend a special event or for work and don’t have much time or styling tools on your hands.
Overall, this mini (50ml) dry shampoo spray can priced at INR 299 only is a handbag and travel essential for sure. Whether your hair needs a quick refresh at the end of the day or you want to extend your shampooed hair look for a couple of extra days on vacay, you can’t go wrong with this product!
Just like people have combination skin, with some dry patches on the face and some oily, some of us have combination hair i.e greasy roots and dry ends. The trouble with combination hair is that if you use products meant for dry hair, then your roots become oily, and if you use products meant for greasy hair then your ends become dry like a bird’s nest. Which is why I decided to share a tip with you today for combination hair. Some of you might be aware of this, but in case you aren’t, here is something that I call multi-masking for the hair.
So basically, if you have combination hair like mine, use a shampoo and conditioner/mask meant for oily hair, so that your roots don’t look greasy and your hair becomes voluminous. However, when using the conditioner or mask, mix in some oil such as argan oil, almond oil or olive oil in the product that you apply to the dry regions of your hair only. For the rest of your hair, use the mask without the oil mixed in it. Keep the mask on for 5-10 minutes, or as per the usage instructions, and then rinse it off. This method ensures that the oil is able to add extra hydration to your dry ends but does not add greasiness to the rest of your hair. Since the excess oil gets washed off along with the mask, there are no chances of it somehow reaching your roots while brushing your hair etc, which is something that happens with leave on serums and oils. This trick is something that gives me the best results with my hair and makes it look smooth yet voluminous from the roots to the ends.
Have you ever tried multi-masking for the hair? Do let me know your experience in the comments below!
Dry Shampoos are a lazy girl’s best friend! Well, in fact, they are everybody’s best friend because shampooing your hair too frequently can strip them of their natural oils and mess up your whole scalp chemistry. Dry shampoo, on the other hand, will soak up the excess grease that has accumulated on the roots and will restore some bounce to unwashed 2nd or 3rd-day hair. All my adult life, I have been a loyal Batiste girl and have gone through innumerable spray cans of their dry shampoos, but the BBlunt dry shampoo is the only other product that comes really close in performance to the Batiste ones. I received the BBlunt Back To Life Dry Shampoo in the fragrance Spring Fling as a giveaway price (which did arrive MONTHS after the results were announced, but oh well, better late than never). Here are my thoughts on this beauty in a bottle.
This dry shampoo is in the form of a very finely milled white powder that emanates some pleasant floral scents. A little product goes a long way, so spray a little bit on your roots, work it in with your fingers, and brush out the excess. This will keep your hair looking freshly washed and bouncy for at least 24 hours, and will add some volume too. The only thing that I don’t like about this product is that it is a white powder, so if you use too much, it can leave a grayish cast on your hair, but when you use the right amount, it won’t be visible after brushing the hair. I do wish that BBlunt comes out with a colored dry shampoo like the Divine Dark variant by Batiste, after all, BBlunt is an Indian brand and should cater to us dark-haired girls.
Overall, I feel that everybody needs this product in their lives, whether you have busy mornings with no time to shampoo your hair, travel a lot with no bathrooms in sight, or live in a humid area where your roots get oily just a few hours after shampooing your hair. Priced at INR 550 for 125ml of product, this dry shampoo has a comparable price range to Batiste, so you can try it out as an alternative, maybe you will discover a new hair favourite for this Spring!
I usually shy away from serums and anything that has oil in it because even if I apply something oily on my toes, it somehow manages to reach my roots and face, both of which are oily to begin with. However, the BBlunt Intense Moisture Hair Serum is something that works quite well for me despite my greasy roots. Read on to find out more about this product.
This serum is supposed to be specifically designed for Indian hair. It can be used on dry or towel dried hair and also provides heat protection, which I really like. Also, apart from heat protection, it claims to protect the hair from environmental damage as well, which is yet another attractive feature for me because while I have greasy roots, the ends of my hair tend to get frizzy and dry quite easily. The product contains many nourishing ingredients, such as avocado, jojoba, and argan oils and Vitamin-E, therefore it tames and hydrates the hair while protecting them from damage.
I use a very small coin-sized amount of the product, rub it between my fingers and then comb it through my hair, starting at the mid-lengths and moving towards the ends. Unlike most serums, this product does not weigh down my hair or make them look oily. The serum sinks in quickly into the hair and leaves behind a very subtle shine. It makes my hair smoother and softer to the touch and reduces the frizz without making the hair look limp. I also love the sweet fragrance of the product that lingers on the hair.
Overall, I am really impressed with this hair serum and will recommend it those who want to smoothen their hair without losing out on volume. The quirky blue bottle contains 75ml of product and is priced at INR 500, which seems reasonable to me considering the efficacy of the serum. Do try out this product and I am sure that you will love it too!
My hair care is such a mish-mash of products that it often tends to confuse people. The reason for this is that I have combination hair that is oily at the roots and can be extremely dry at the ends. This is why I usually use a volumizing shampoo combined with a nourishing conditioner so that both the problems get addressed. I have currently been using the OGX Morocco Argan Oil Conditioner and will be reviewing it for you guys today.
OGX hair products usually never disappoint me and this conditioner is no exception. It contains the goodness of Argan oil that penetrates the hair and leaves them incredibly soft and smooth. However, the best thing about the conditioner is that unlike most argan oil based hair masks and conditioners, this product does not weigh my hair down at all. My hair feels glossy, but not greasy, and healthier whenever I use this conditioner. One thing I always make sure is that I only apply it to the lower halves of my hair so that the scalp remains oil free.
If you are someone with extremely dry hair then using this conditioner in conjunction with the shampoo from the same range will work very well for you. But if you have combination hair like mine then pair it with a shampoo meant for oily hair for optimal results.
Priced at INR 725 for a massive 385ml bottle, this beautifully packaged conditioner is a mid-range product that is a good alternative if you do not want to spend a fortune on higher-end products. Also, OGX has a vast range of alternatives for different hair types, so even if you do not have dry hair, you can still find something from the brand that you love. So do check out their collection and let me know how it works for you.
I promised you guys a while back that I will be reviewing a few hair products that are specifically designed for fine hair, so here I am. Today I will be reviewing the BBlunt Full On Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. BBlunt is a brand that is designed keeping the Indian climate and hair types in mind and this particular range claims to work on fine hair by providing them more volume, bounce, and life.
Both the shampoo and the conditioner contain rice protein for adding volume to the hair, glycerin for providing moisture, and provitamin B5 to repair damage and add lustre and shine to the hair. They are both white liquids that emanate a pleasant, aquatic scent that reminds me of a swimming pool. As you can see, the packaging of both the items is quite quirky, and although it is definitely not travel-friendly because of the added bulk, I do quite enjoy displaying these bottles in my bathroom. Also, the pump on the shampoo is certainly a plus.
As for the performance of the products, the shampoo lathers pretty well and a small amount of the product leaves the hair feeling fresh and clean. After following it up with the conditioner, my hair feels smooth and soft, and looks healthier too. Upon drying, my hair looks more voluminous and bouncier than usual however does not feel overly dry or stripped. BBlunt has done a good job at creating a formula that provides a right mix of hydration and cleansing, leaving limp hair looking more bouncy but not rough like a bird’s nest. Do keep in mind that these products do not make your hair thicker, but what they do is add an illusion of thickness by making the hair more bouncy and fluffy.
If you are someone suffering from limp hair then the BBlunt Full On Volume Shampoo & Conditioner will definitely provide an oomph factor to your hair. I will recommend using both the shampoo and the conditioner together for best results. The shampoo is priced at INR 600 for a 400ml bottle while the conditioner is priced at INR 400 for a 200gm bottle. This is a pretty good deal when compared to the salon ranges of most brands. For years I have been looking for a shampoo that adds a bounce to my mane without stripping my hair completely dry, and have finally found an Indian brand which is affordable too! These products have become holy grail items for me and I am sure that if you have fine hair like mine then you too will fall in love with them.
I hope that this review was useful. You can buy the BBlunt Full On Volume Shampoo here and the BBlunt Full On Volume Conditioner here.

Hair products are some of the trickiest things to review, what works really well for one person may end up ruining another’s hair. So I would request you all to take this review with a grain of salt, but if you have hair similar to mine, chances are that you will be disappointed by the Nourishing Hair Cleanser from Bio Bloom. I have long and fine hair that is quite dry at the ends with oily roots, and this hair cleanser worked no magic on my mane.
This product is paraben free and sulfate free and contains the extracts of Amla, Brahmi, and Hibiscus, some of the traditional super foods for hair. Despite a promising ingredient list, the hair cleanser failed to impress me because it did not do a good job at thoroughly cleaning my hair and scalp. It has a thick, gel-like consistency that doesn’t lather well at all. I got absolutely no lather during the first round of washing and had to go in with a second round to get the lather I am used to. Post rinsing and drying my hair, I could still notice significant oiliness at my roots which usually does not appear until the 2nd or 3rd day after shampooing. I am someone who shampoos their hair no more than twice a week and therefore need a more heavy duty cleanser.
This product claims to nourish and strengthen the hair to prevent breakage. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to use this long enough to see if it helps with breakage but it did leave my hair feeling silkier and looking more lustrous than usual. Therefore, it does live up to its claim of being nourishing but I wish that the cleansing action had been stronger too. To be honest, the silkiness and shine can be achieved with the help of a more affordable brand like Sunsilk while this one costs INR 350 for a 100ml bottle that comes with a pump (unlike the circular opening in the sample size shown above). Luckily, I had ordered a sample from Smytten so I didn’t waste a lot of money and I won’t be buying the full sized product for sure. If you like a very mild hair cleanser with natural ingredients then you can try this one but for all the ladies out there with greasy roots, I will be testing out a raved about product for limp hair very soon! So, stay tuned to the blog if you want hair product recommendations for your hair type.

While many major brands have hair products that make a huge dent in our bank accounts, there are a few under dogs that perform much better at an extremely affordable price. The Biotique Mountain Ebony Vitalizing Serum for Falling Hair is one such product that is not expensive at all yet manages to work wonders. Although the brand calls this product a serum, it is actually a watery liquid that you are supposed to massage into your dry scalp. What makes this product unique is the fact that it does not have any oily ingredients in it, which makes it perfect for those with greasy roots. This elixir contains the extracts of Mountain Ebony as well as some other herbs such as Neem and Mint, and claims to stimulate hair growth and reduce scalp irritation. I have been using this product on and off for quite some time now and am pleased to report that it does live up to its claims.
I usually massage this product on my dry scalp a day after I wash my hair. It instantly provides a cooling sensation that lasts for several minutes and eliminates any itchiness that is caused by dandruff or dryness. The pleasant aroma of herbs lingers on my hair until the next wash and I do notice a visible reduction in hair fall whenever I use this product regularly. My scalp feels so healthy after using this product that I am almost certain that it encourages new hair growth as well. A combination of these results helps in making my hair look more voluminous and luscious. The best thing about this serum is that it does not cause any sort of build up on my hair or scalp and gets absorbed into the skin without leaving behind any oily residue. All those with oily hair will understand why this light weight texture of the serum is so important.
This amazing product is priced at INR 185 for a 120ml bottle and I will recommend all those suffering from scalp issues and hair loss to buy a bottle asap. While the plastic packaging is a little weak and prone to breaking, the product itself is fantastic and gets full marks from me. If you have already tried expensive scalp treatments with no luck then do give this one a shot, you may end up being pleasantly surprised.

Have you ever fallen for the recommendations offered to you by the hair stylist at your favorite salon? The sad thing is that while some hair stylists are really professional and helpful at providing great product suggestions, others simply publicize the recent products from their sponsors regardless of the actual needs of the client in question. A few months back, the Loreal Professionnel Liss Unlimited Shampoo was recommended to me by a hair stylist, and strangely enough, the same shampoo was also recommended by that salon to a friend who has drastically different hair from mine. Unfortunately, this shampoo did not benefit either of us and proved to be a huge waste of money. So, who is this shampoo really meant for? Read on to find out.
The Liss Unlimited shampoo contains something called Keratinol Complex which is supposed to smoothen rebellious hair. Sounds great right? In a country like India, we all fight our humidity battles and need something to tame the frizziness of our hair. The downside is that while this shampoo does reduce frizziness quite effectively, it also makes the hair extremely greasy, not just at the roots but also throughout the lengths of the hair. I gave it a fair shot, tried extremely teeny tiny amounts of product, still the same result – super oily looking hair. This is one of those shampoos that does not lather much and has more of a creamy consistency, and although my hair does feel clean after using it, the product weighs down my mane in an unflattering manner. The shampoo is also not cheap (INR 575 for 250ml) and therefore I really regret buying it. Note to self – Never put blind faith in a hair stylist again.
This product can be used as a once-a-week shampoo by those with extremely dry and rough hair but if you do not have fairly voluminous and wild hair, I would recommend you to save your money and skip this one. Meanwhile, I am struggling to find a way to use up this bottle as I do not like wasting products. Any suggestions on how I can put this shampoo to use? Let me know in the comments below!

The powder of the hibiscus flower is claimed to be extremely potent at fighting hair fall. It is an ingredient of various traditional hair mask recipes and hundreds of Indian women swear by its efficacy. I too decided to test out hibiscus powder to help me with my hair fall issues and here is a brief account of my experience so far.
I was meaning to purchase the hibiscus powder from Banjaras because several bloggers that I trust recommended it, however, I wasn’t able to find it in stock on any website, which is why I settled for the Indus Valley 100% Organic Hibiscus Powder instead. This powder claims to be 100% natural and comes in a 100gm plastic pouch. I am not a huge fan of the packaging because you need to transfer the contents to an air tight jar once you open the packet. I like my products to be low-maintenance, which is why this extra step irks me 😛
This powder has a slightly grainy texture and is brown in color when dry. It does not have a strong scent, just a faint herbal smell. This means that the brand has not added any artificial chemicals to this product, which is always a huge plus. There are several hair mask recipes available online but I went for the simplest one i.e. hibiscus powder, coconut oil, and water.
On the addition of coconut oil, the powder turns reddish in color. I tried to add enough oil and water to get a smooth paste like consistency. Once the paste was ready, I applied it throughout the lengths of my hair, trying to massage it into my scalp as well. This process might get a bit messy, so take the necessary precautions.
I allowed my hair to absorb the nutrients for around half an hour and then proceeded to wash them with my regular shampoo and conditioner. I faced a little difficulty in rinsing off all the tiny grains of powder from my long strands (perhaps I need to look for a more finely milled powder?) but the results of all the efforts were clearly visible once my hair was dry. My hair felt softer than usual and also looked healthier and shinier. As for the hair loss, after using the mask 2-3 times, I noticed a very slight improvement in my hair fall. Perhaps using it regularly will help eliminate the breakage of hair completely, but as of now, I am happy with my healthy looking mane.
Just like me, my hair suffers from mood swings and has a personality of its own. Being a fine haired gal, straight hair is not really the best look for me because it further reduces the volume of my tresses, but I do need a hair straightener to tone down the wild mess that often takes over the ends of my hair. I have talked about the Philips hair styler in a previous blog post but its straightening iron just doesn’t give me the desired result, both in terms of the sleekness of the hair as well as the longevity of the hair style. This is why I finally caved and purchased the Corioliss Pro V Professional Styling Iron after digging out a review by Corallista (Ankita Srivastava). Luckily, my investment paid off and I am quite satisfied with the performance of this hair straightener. Read on to find out more details about this styling tool.
I am not going to talk about all the technical specifications of this product because they are already mentioned on various websites. Instead, I will focus on the features that stood out to me while using the tool, as opposed to while reading the user manual. So, the first feature that makes this product worth the price is the fact that you can set the temperature as per your choice, within the range of 100 degrees to 230 degrees Celcius. The product comes with a rotating knob to set the same. It is obvious that the higher the temperature you set, the more effectively the tool will straighten unruly hair. However, I personally don’t go beyond 200 degrees Celcius and would recommend the same to others as well. Too much heat is not great for your hair and if a lower temperature setting works for you then there is no need to crank up the heat. The second feature that I really liked was the combination of ceramic plates and negative ion technology which makes sure that the hair does not develop a static charge post straightening, which happens a lot to dry hair when using a subpar hair straightener.
The other things I like about this hair straightener are the long, swivel cord, which does not tie me down to the power point, and the fact that the plates heat up pretty fast (within 2-3 minutes), which is perfect for when I am in a rush. As for the quality of straightening, I do not really prefer poker straight hair and just like to smoothen them a little bit. I am able to achieve this with a temperature of around 180 degrees. In one single swipe of the straightener, my hair loses its frizziness and gains a more tamed appearance, although if you wish to create flicks or curls at the ends, you may need an additional swipe to shape them. With a temperature of around 200-210 degrees, you should be able to get poker straight hair, even though this look does not suit my face at all. As for the staying power of the straightened hair, without any hair spray, my hair retains the shape for a good 2-3 days, which can be extended to a week with a good hair spray. Below is a picture of how this straightener instantly tones down the drama of my crazy ends with a temperature of around 190 degrees.
Coming to the price, the Corioliss Pro V Professional Styling Iron is priced at INR 3999 in India BUT it is almost always available at a discounted price on Nykaa. Even today, this product is available for a heavily discounted price of INR 2249, which is a real steal in my opinion. You can click this link, to head over to Nykaa.com and make use of the amazing deal. This straightener may not be worth 4000 bucks, but its amazing smoothening action and the longevity of the hairstyle that it provides definitely make it a great purchase for up to 2500 bucks. Think of all the money you spend on blow drys and straightening sessions at the salon, this one-time investment is nothing compared to that expenditure. If you are looking for a hair straightener at the moment then this one comes highly recommended from me. One word of advice though – ALWAYS remember to invest in a good heat protection spray as well. Happy styling!
New mothers suffer from sleepless nights and hormonal imbalances that lead to hair fall, tired skin, and dark circles, among various other issues that are common post-pregnancy. Unfortunately, today’s hectic lifestyle and pollution have made these problems prevalent among women in general, regardless of whether they are mothers or not. Mama Earth is a toxin free and dermatologist approved brand that creates gentle products not just for the little ones but also for the mamas who take care of them. The brand kindly sent me a few of the products from their Mama range, because like it or not, even though I am not a mother, my skin and hair always needs some TLC. After carefully testing out these products here is my detailed review about them.
The products that were sent to me by the brand were the Under Eye Creme for Mama, the Argan Hair Mask for Mama, and the Charcoal, Coffee, and Clay (C3) Face Mask for Mama. Even before I started using the products, I was extremely impressed by the packaging. Each of the items came individually enclosed in cardboard boxes that had some beautiful quotes regarding mothers printed on them. What is more, these cardboard boxes are specially designed to be reused as pencil holders. The attention paid by the brand to the tiny details is extremely commendable. As for the actual packaging of the products, the jars are sturdy, completely leakproof and have an attractive pink and green print on them. The fact that the brand has spent effort in creating hassle free packaging shows that it truly understands the needs of new mothers. It is rare for a brand to win my heart even before I test the products but MamaEarth managed to do just that.
Coming to the actual performance of the products, I will start with the Under Eye Creme for Mama. This eye cream contains a lot of nourishing oils as well as the extracts of papaya, green tea, and cucumber, to name a few ingredients. Just like all the products from MamaEarth, the cream is Paraben Free, Mineral Oil Free, Phthalates Free, and SLS Free. It has a soft, creamy consistency that feels like a gel between the fingers. My first thoughts when I smelt the product was that it smells exactly like my favorite Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment that I always rave about. Lo and behold, this eye cream not just has the same fragrance but the same gentle, moisturizing effect on my eyes as the variant from Kiehl’s that costs a whopping 2500 bucks! This eye cream glides like a dream on the skin and does not irritate my super sensitive eyes at all. It is extremely hydrating and also tightens the under eye area, removing any sagginess. It has a mild cooling effect that is perfect for tired eyes and the formula is extremely nourishing. I will even go ahead and say that the tightening effect makes it better than the Kiehl’s eye cream, even though 50ml of this wonderful product is priced at INR 500 only. I haven’t used this product long enough to notice a visible reduction in my dark circles, but it definitely helps with puffiness and brightens the under eye area with regular usage. I guess this review makes it clear that this eye cream has become a holy grail product for me already!
Moving on to the Argan Hair Mask, this product is a mask that is designed to reduce hair fall and contains argan oil, avocado oil, milk protein, and curd extracts as some of its key ingredients. It can be used as a leave in conditioner or can be rinsed off like a regular mask. What makes this product unique is the fact that not only does it detangle the hair, it is also supposed to nourish the scalp and help with the growth of new hair. This is why you are not just supposed to apply it to the ends of your hair but to the scalp as well. I haven’t tried this product as a leave in conditioner yet because I have fairly oily hair but it has worked pretty well as a regular conditioner. I applied it to the entire lengths of my hair and even massaged it into my scalp. Post-rinsing, my hair was very soft and smooth and even seemed healthier than before. Since I have started using this product, I have noticed that my hair is not breaking as easily while brushing and is not getting as entangled and rough as before. This hair mask definitely provides the intense nourishment that damaged hair needs. One word of caution though, if you have extremely oily roots then you will need to rinse off the product really well after massaging it on the scalp, else it may leave behind an oily residue. This hair mask is priced at INR 599 for a 200ml tub, which is very affordable considering that it performs as well as some of the salon brands.
Last but not the least is the C3 Face Mask that contains Charcoal, Coffee, Clay and Fruit Extracts. This is a fairly thick, black colored mask that glides quite easily on the skin and claims to exfoliate and lighten dark spots. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting any miracles from this product but it surprised me beyond measure. After only a few days of using it, the patches of pigmentation on my face left behind by acne had lightened drastically! Just like the rest of the products from the range, this mask is also extremely gentle and does not even tingle while application. You are supposed to leave a thick layer of the product on the face for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with water after rubbing it in circular motions for the scrub particles to exfoliate the skin. The scrubbing action is not too harsh yet effective enough to remove dead skin. Like I have already mentioned, within the first week of using this product, I began to notice that my skin was more radiant and my spots had visibly reduced. Very few products have ever managed to lighten the spots on my face, which is why this face mask has left me super impressed. Priced at INR 599 for a 100ml tub, this face mask is a boon for all those who suffer from blemishes and an uneven complexion.
I am extremely grateful to MamaEarth for sending me these products and introducing me to such a brilliant line of skincare. My personal favorites are the eye cream and the face mask although the hair mask works really well too. If you haven’t checked out the products from this brand yet then I will encourage you to do so asap. You can buy these amazing products on Amazon or from the brand’s website http://mamaearth.in/. Trust me, I have never been so confident while recommending a product to my readers. I can state with 100% certainty that whether you are a mother or not, your skin and hair will thank you once you pamper them with the goodness of MamaEarth.
