Fabeya Bamboo Charcoal Sea Algae Peel Off Mask | Review

If you have ever used a black peel off mask, you would know that they all have a strong chemical scent and they often tend to dry up in the tube, leading to wastage of your money. Fabeya has now got you covered on both fronts with their Bamboo Charcoal Sea Algae Peel Off Mask that comes in the form of a powder! Read on to find out more about this unique product.

The most unique thing about this product is of course the fact that it is a peel off mask in the form of a powder. You simply have to mix this light grey, finely milled powder with some regular water or rose water to form a thick paste. A 3-4 mm layer of this paste needs to be applied on the skin and peeled off after it has become completely dry, after 20 minutes or so. You may need to experiment a little with the thickness of the layer that you apply on your skin because if it is too thin it will crack and if it is too thick it will take a long time to dry. However, once you have the thickness right, the product will peel off pretty easily and will remove white heads and dead skin quite effectively.

Another great thing about this product is that it is PVA free and does not dry out the skin or leave it feeling red and sensitive. While most black peel off masks in the market leave the skin fairly dehydrated and sensitive, this one actually hydrates the skin while removing only dead cells and white heads. There is a lot of controversy surrounding cream based peel off masks, with many people claiming that they actually contain glue in them. Not only can you trust Fabeya for their all-natural formulations (this one contains detoxifying bamboo charcoal and hydrating sea algae), even while using the product you will feel that it is made from pure and natural, non-toxic ingredients.

Priced at INR 399 for a 30gm pack, this affordable product will give you several uses. If you have used a black peel off mask in the past and have found it extremely harsh or stripping then this product might convert you into a peel-off mask lover. Do try it out once, I am sure you will love it!

MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Black Mask | Review

Everybody is loving black peel-off masks these days and I keep trying new ones from time to time. The recent addition to my stash is the MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Mask. This peel off mark claims to deep cleanse the skin, remove blackheads, and remove dark spots. Read on to find out if the product lives up to its claims.

First of all, one thing that I did not like about the product is that it also claims to have skin “whitening” properties due to the presence of Arbutin in the formula. Honestly, nobody’s skin needs to be “whitened” and I am waiting for the day when brands stop using this claim as a marketing strategy.

Moving on to the actual performance of the product though, it has all the characteristics of a decent peel off mask. The formula is a slightly thick and sticky black liquid that has a strong odor of chemicals when freshly squeezed out of the tube but the scent fades away within a few minutes. You need to cleanse your face and pat a warm wet towel on it before application to prep your skin and open up the pores. Then apply a thin and even layer of the product on the face avoiding your eyes, hair, and eyebrows. The product dries up within 15-20 minutes and when this happens your skin will feel slightly stretched out. At this point, the mask will start lifting off from the edges and you can pull it gently. Depending on how evenly you had applied the product, it will come off in large pieces. One word of caution is that this mask will pull out a majority of facial hair too, so if you have a peach fuzz then pulling the mask off will be fairly painful. However, the mask does a good job at removing white heads and dead skin, making it worth the pain. Any residual product can be washed off with water and using a toner after this mask is a must.

Overall, this peel off mask works pretty well but is definitely not meant for sensitive skin. It leaves the skin smooth and bump free and the price point of INR 399 is ok but I am a little worried that the product may dry out in the tube before I am able to finish it off. My hunt for a spectacular black peel off mask still continues but I am satisfied with this product until then.

Do you feel an odd sense of satisfaction when a peel off mask sucks out all the gunk and whiteheads from your nose? Believe it or not, blackhead removal videos have a cult status of their own on YouTube because when a nose mask works well, its performance is a delight to watch, according to several people. Black peel off masks gained a lot of popularity due to these videos and what started off as a trend in Asia soon made its way to the rest of the world, with many swearing by the effectiveness of these masks at leaving the nose squeaky clean. However, there have also been some concerns raised by skin care specialists that these masks also suck out the good oils from the skin and leave the pores open and exposed to pollution and dirt. Furthermore, some cheap replicas of peel off masks have been called out for containing actual glue to make them more effective! This is why I have been dilly dallying about buying a charcoal peel off mask since a long time but the bumps on my nose finally made me give in and after much research, I purchased the Healthvit Activated Charcoal Purifying Peel Off Mask which I am going to review for you today.

This product comes in a 50gm tube that is priced at INR 350. Its consistency is more liquidy and runny than I expected because for some reason I thought that it will be thicker. So all you need to do is spread an even layer of the product on your cleansed skin, wait for it to dry completely, which should take approximately 20 minutes, and then pull it off. While many reviewers on Amazon stated that you need to build a thick coating of the product on the skin for it to peel off easily, I was able to get away with one of mediocre thickness. In fact, if you layer up too much product then it will not dry up completely and you won’t be able to peel it off easily. I would recommend trying this out on a small patch first so that you know what works for you before you spread it on your whole nose. Once the product was fully dry, it did peel off quite easily for me and did not hurt much at all. However, it did not peel off as a single strip as shown in advertisements, but in the form of small sections (refer picture below). It did a decent job of removing my whiteheads while being gentle on the skin but it did pull out some facial hair as well, albeit painlessly. What I like about this product is that unlike the nose strips, this can get out the whiteheads from the curved areas of the nose and the chin as well. It will not leave your nose 100% blackhead free but will definitely remove a large percentage of them and will bring some to the surface so that you can scrub them off more easily. After a couple of uses of this product, my nose area is definitely much smoother, and to prevent the open pores from getting clogged, I use a toner such as rose water after using the mask.

Coming to the ingredients, the product contains PVA and Acrypol-1, both of which are polymers that are commonly used in cosmetic products. It also contains charcoal powder which is known for its adsorption properties and Disodium EDTA which is a preservative. The next ingredient, Triethanolamine is considered dangerous in large amounts but is allowed by the FDA in small quantities in beauty products. And lastly, this product also contains fragrance. If there is any ingredients expert or chemist reading this post then please enlighten us more about the pros and cons of these ingredients but as far as I can tell, the ingredients are not extremely toxic to cause any damage if used once in a while. The scent of the product is very chemically though and may turn off a lot of people. I would highly recommend doing a patch test before you use it on your face to make sure that your skin does not react badly to any ingredient.

To sum up, this product is definitely not one for those who like natural ingredients but it does fulfill what it claims to do. Personally, I would not be comfortable using it more frequently than once a month because of the chemicals. The good thing is that it does not hurt the skin when being pulled off and does not cause any stinging. Also, it is cheaper compared to getting a similar product shipped from Korea or Japan. The final call is yours, if you are willing to experiment with these ingredients then go ahead but if they make you uncomfortable then stick with the old school steaming and scrubbing methods for getting the blackheads out.
