I live by the philosophy that you can never have enough nude lipsticks in your collection, which is why I recently purchased the Nykaa So Matte Lipstick in the shade Taupe Thrill. I have already raved about the Nykaa So Matte Spiced Cabernet Lipstick in a previous blog post, and knew that this is a formula that I can trust, therefore I decided to opt for a lighter, more day-appropriate shade this time.
The shade Taupe Thrill (12M) is a brownish pink which will look flattering on most Indian skin tones. The formula is an opaque, creamy matte that looks slightly glossy under bright lights. The fact that it is not a flat matte makes it more comfortable to wear and in fact, it seems to hydrate my lips as well. It is not heavily perfumed like some of the other drugstore lipsticks, which makes it more suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Not only is the packaging extremely luxurious (square packaging with a magnetic closure!) but the formula is reminiscent of high-end lipsticks as well. Despite being a lighter shade and having a creamy consistency, this lipstick lasts on my lips for a good 6-7 hours and has also survived multiple rounds of digging into greasy food! It seems like Nykaa has taken a cue from MAC when it comes to the longevity of the product 🙂
Priced at INR 399, these lipsticks are definitely a bargain and the shade Taupe Thrill is a no-fail color that is suitable for all occasions. You can also look at the darker/brighter shades available in the range if nude lips are not your thing. Overall, both the color and the texture of this lipstick gets 5 stars from me 🙂
The L.A. Girl Cosmetics Pro Conceal HD range of concealers has received a lot of love and rave reviews from the blogging community. This got me excited to try out the range because foundations and concealers are my most used beauty products. To be true to my critical nature regarding makeup, I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about this product.
These concealers come in a HUGE range of shades which is highly commendable but can be a bit intimidating to select from. I went for the shade Medium Beige (GC978) to use as a concealer and the shade Espresso (GC985) as a shade for contouring. Colorwise, Medium Beige is quite the perfect match for me, it is a warm beige with a slightly yellow undertone, which should complement Asian and Indian skin tones quite well. Espresso looks like a cool brown in the tube and when swatched, however, once blended, it leaves a slightly orange-brown undertone on my face, which I am not a huge fan of. However, I can still make it work as a good contouring shade, with the right amount of blending and mixing in with a cool toned concealer.
Texture wise, these concealers are the closest to the Loreal True Match concealers, which are my holy grail concealers. They are creamy and liquidy and build up well on the skin without appearing thick or cakey. They do provide a good medium coverage, but somehow I am never able to achieve the full coverage that I am able to get with the True Match concealers. You will need a high coverage foundation or excellent concealing skills to build these up to a full coverage. The more natural finish, however, makes these concealers perfect for contouring, because they blend well without leaving any harsh lines on the skin.
The major qualm that I have with this product is the packaging. Perhaps I am using it incorrectly, but the squeeze tube with the plastic brush at the end doesn’t really work well for me. It either ends up squirting out too much product, or nothing at all. My preferred way of using the product is to squeeze some onto my palm and then apply it to the face with a brush. If you are not picky about the applicator and are looking for a medium coverage concealer that provides a natural finish, these concealer tubes priced at INR 590 might work really well for you. Personally, I prefer these more for contouring than for concealing, but they are decent concealers as well, to say the least.
Amidst all the matte lip colors and liquid lipsticks, the humble lipgloss might get neglected but still holds an important position in my makeup drawer. There are those days when the lips are too dry or pigmented and simply do not cooperate with a matte finish product, a lipgloss is what emerges a hero on such occasions. It is extremely hard to find the perfect nude lip gloss for medium Indian skin tones, especially one from an international brand. The Loreal Paris Infallible Mega Gloss in the shade 110 I Got The Power is not just the perfect nude gloss for medium skin tones but is also extremely flattering on fair and deep complexions.
I personally do not like shimmery or glittery glosses for daily use. The glitter goes everywhere and does not really suit my face. This one is a cream formula, which is glossy but not shimmery at all, although they do have a few shimmery glosses in this range as well. The shade is the perfect pinkish brown that can be worn to work or even for a night out, thanks to the subtle shine that it provides.
The doe foot applicator picks up just the right amount of product which provides a semi-opaque finish in one coat. I would not recommend going for a second coat because that can get a bit messy. The formula is not sticky and is quite hydrating, in fact, it feels like a slightly heavy lip balm on the lips. It lasts for around 2-3 hours but you can extend the wear time by a couple of hours with the help of a nude lip liner. However, on most days I simply apply it directly to my bare lips and keep reapplying every few hours. The formula has a mild, sweet scent that lingers on throughout the wear time.
An 8 ml tube of this product is priced at INR 850 but you can grab it for around INR 600 online. It is still on the pricey side but I am willing to pay the price for the lovely color and the high-end packaging.
It is the perfect choice for the days when you are going for a no makeup – makeup look, and want something easy for the lips. Pair it with nude eye makeup for an amazing monochromatic effect. If you want to keep only one lip gloss in your collection then I would highly recommend this one!
