Stay Quirky Wipe Out Makeup Remover | Review

Guest Post by Sohini

Hey guys,

I’m Sohini, a budding blogger, youtuber as well as an influencer. I’m into this thing since last year and Mrinalini is one of the first few bloggers whom I followed on WordPress as well as on Instagram and writing for LipstickforLunch is a great opportunity for me.

So for my first guest post for this blog, I would like to share my experience with a new and innovative product I recently used- the generic version of the original makeup eraser. I got this from the brand Stay Quirky. It’s called their Wipe Out Makeup Remover.

The Battle of the BB Creams/CC Creams | Ponds vs Lakme vs The Body Shop vs Nykaa

BB creams and CC creams are a great alternative to full-blown foundations for those who are looking for a more natural finish with their makeup or who don’t want to burn too big a hole in their pockets. They are also excellent for the days when you want to be ready in a jiffy because since they provide a more natural coverage, they blend pretty easily and quickly. They are fast becoming a favourite of teenage girls who have just started using makeup and even those who are pro at blending have at least one for the “no makeup-makeup days”. While in the east BB creams and CC creams come with a ton of skincare benefits, the variants in India are pretty much tinted moisturisers with some SPF or essential oils. Here are the details of the BB/CC creams I have used till date and how they fared for me!

The Battle of the BB Creams/CC Creams | Ponds vs Lakme vs The Body Shop vs Nykaa

1. Ponds White Beauty BB Cream – This BB Cream is used and loved by a number of fellow bloggers, but I have a major issue with the words “Fairness Cream” printed on the packaging and the fact that this cream comes in only one shade. That being said, the reason why so many people swear by this cream is that if the shade matches your skin tone, the cream will provide an even brightened finish to your skin with almost medium coverage. The formula is a slightly thick, fairly pigmented cream that blends in quite easily with the skin. Also, the cream provides SPF 30, eliminating the need for sunscreen too. If only Ponds could stop using fairness as a marketing agenda and bring out more shades, this would be a decent product for an extremely affordable price of INR 165 for an 18gm tube. 2. Lakme 9 to 5 CC Cream (Bronze) – The Lakme 9 to 5 CC Cream is the light-weight cousin of the Ponds BB Cream in terms of formula. It is slightly more watery, has a fresh citrusy scent and the shade Bronze is a slightly yellower version of the Ponds cream, but with slightly lighter coverage. It comes in 4 different shades (Bronze being the second lightest) that should cover most Indian skin tones considering that it does blend in quite seamlessly with the natural skin tone. If you want a CC cream that you can simply apply and forget about then this product is meant for you. It provides a more glowy finish than the Ponds cream that gives a more matte finish, so this one might not work for extremely oily skin types. A 30gm tube of this CC Cream is priced at INR 315. Click here to buy.

3. The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream (02) – If you are someone with acne prone skin who wants to treat their pimples while covering them up then The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream is your best bet. This BB cream provides light to medium coverage and has the cooling goodness of tea tree oil that actually helps in shrinking my active acne. This BB cream is truly the best of both worlds in terms of skincare and makeup for my skin type. My only issue with the product is that it has slight pink/greyish undertones which do not work the best with my warmer undertones, but I do use the product when my skin is acting up nevertheless (I am a shade 02 in the range). Priced at approximately INR 1200 in India, this one is the most expensive for sure and is best reserved for the days when your skin is really acting up. Click here to buy.

4. Nykaa Skin Genius BB Cream (04 – Spiced Cinnamon) – Last on this list is the Nykaa Skin Genius BB Cream. This one also has a good formula that provides medium coverage and a smooth finish to the skin, but it oxidises like crazy and turns orange on my skin, as you can see in the swatch. If you are able to find a suitable shade in this range (currently available in 5 shades) then it is a good BB cream that keeps the skin hydrated without making it greasy. The price of INR 349 for a 30gm tube is affordable too. Click here to buy.

Overall, while each of these products has their own pros and cons, my personal favourite is the Lakme 9 to 5 CC Cream because of its light-weight formula, my skin but better coverage, and yellow brightening undertones. It lasts for 4-6 hours on the skin and is excellent for wearing to college or office if you just want to even out your skintone a bit or hide small spots.

The Nature’s Co Mini Express Facial Kit | Review

In continuation of my previous post, today I will be talking about another travel kit from The Nature’s Co, their Mini Express Facial Kit. When I am travelling, my skin needs extra pampering, but the catch is that I do not have my entire treasury of skincare products with me. To ensure that I do not ignore my skin while hopping from one city to another, I invested in this cute travel facial kit. Read on to find out whether the purchase was worth the money or not!

The Nature's Co Mini Express Facial Kit | Review

Available at an extremely affordable price of INR 395, this mini facial kit contains a cleansing lotion, a face pack, a facial massage cream, a face cream, and a rose water spray in a clear and sturdy zip pouch. Here is my review of each of the products.

White Pepper Cleansing Lotion This cleansing lotion is basically like a cleansing milk that works quite well at removing non-waterproof makeup, sweat and grease from the face. It has a mild peppery scent but does not tingle or irritate the skin and is fairly gentle. Overall, it is a good mini to have around if you are not going to wear a lot of makeup while travelling.

Multi-Vitamin Facial Massage Cream – This massage cream comes in a gigantic jar for a mini and has a spicy vanilla scent. It has a rich and smooth texture that feels very luxurious on the skin. A massage with this cream helps improve the blood circulation in the facial skin and adds a subtle glow to the face while taking away the tiredness. A nice relaxing ritual after a long day.

Vanilla Vitamin E Face Cream – The Vanilla Vitamin E Face Cream also has the same spicy vanilla scent and a rich texture. It hydrates the skin really well without feeling greasy or heavy, however it can be a bit too much for oily skin. I personally prefer using it at night when I don’t mind my skin looking a little shiny. I wake up with soft and smooth skin the morning after.

Corn Exfoliating Face Pack – The Corn Exfoliating Face Pack is a two in one product and acts as a scrub as well as a mask. The exfoliating particles are gritty enough to remove dead skin and dirt and as a face pack, the product sucks out all the oil from the pores without leaving the skin too dry or parched. This is a product that everyone needs while travelling.

Rose Hydrating Facial Mist – A little spritz of rose water never did anybody any harm! This Rose water spray can be used both as a mist as well as a toner and is the perfect boost of freshness when you are all swamped out.

Overall, I really loved this travel kit and the only things that were missing for me were a face wash and an SPF. The products are more suitable for slightly dry to normal skin and if you have oily or acne-prone skin then you may need a light-weight serum/moisturizer for the day. But for the affordable price, I am not complaining and will be repurchasing the kit when I run out of this one!

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash | Review

There was a point in time when the Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash was my go to daily face wash to keep the acne in check. However, Ponds changed the packaging of this product a few months ago and as far as I know, they changed the formula of the face wash too. I have had a hard time adjusting to the new formula and although it is a fairly decent face wash for the price, it is just not as good as the original formula.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash Review

This face wash is specially designed for acne prone skin and the original formula did dry up my pimples pretty quick and reduced the production of oil. The new formula, on the other hand, does get rid of the greasiness but does not shrink the pimples as effectively as before. With the original formula, my skin would start behaving much better in a few days but this one only improves the condition of my acne but doesn’t get rid of them completely. My other major qualm with the product is its scent. The original formula had a fresh scent which I quite enjoyed but this one has a pungent herbal smell that lingers on my face, which I genuinely dislike.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash Review

If you want my unbiased opinion, without comparing it to the original formula, then I would say that the Ponds Pimple Clear Face wash is one of the most effective budget face washes for acne prone skin in India. It does remove grease and dirt from the pores and makes the skin non-greasy for the next couple of hours. There are more effective face washes for eradicating acne but none are as affordable as this drugstore product. However, since I have been a lover of the original formula, I can’t help but compare this new version to its former self and that leaves me a tad disappointed.

Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash Review

Personally, I won’t be purchasing this face wash again because of the new, annoying scent. If, however, you are not as sensitive to scents as I am and are on a tight budget, you may want to give this product a go. This is one of the reasonable options for students who are most prone to suffering from breakouts yet cannot afford luxury skin care. Priced at INR 69 for a 50gm tube, this face wash cleanses the face gently yet effectively and is definitely a boon for the oily skinned ladies (save for the scent).

I hope that this review was helpful. You can buy the Ponds Pimple Clear Face Wash here.
