The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion and Foaming Cleanser | Review

People say that rice-eaters have the most fabulous hair and flawless skin and many vouch for the efficacy of rice as a skincare ingredient. Personally too, I have noticed that skincare products with rice tend to work well at brightening my skin, which is why I recently picked up The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion and Foaming Cleanser. These products have become a staple part of my PM routine ever since, and here is why.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion and Foaming Cleanser | Review

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion is a cream-based cleansing lotion that gets rid of dirt, grease, and non-waterproof makeup with ease. I have recently been gravitating towards cleansing lotions because they seem to leave my skin hydrated and plump even after washing my face. This product is no exception, it feels gentle on the skin and the tiniest quantity is able to take care of my entire face of makeup. It does leave behind a slightly oily film on my skin, but I wash my face with a cleanser after using this product anyway, so it does not bother me at all. Also, the lotion tends to sting my eyes ever so slightly, so if you have super sensitive eyes then you may want to be careful while using this product. Of course, the packaging with a pump is super-convenient and acts like a cherry on top of the cake for me.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Lotion and Foaming Cleanser | Review

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser complements the cleansing lotion perfectly. It has a creamy consistency in the tube and lathers beautifully, producing a rich foam that feels like a cloud on my skin. Again, the tiniest drop of the cleanser goes a long way and the product lives up to its name of being a foaming face wash. My skin looks glowy and feels super soft and plump after using this cleanser and this combo of products has done a good job at keeping the acne at bay as well!

Overall, I am super happy with both these products and would love to try out more items from the Rice Water range by The Face Shop. The price point of INR 650 for the giant bottles is pretty reasonable too and I will definitely be repurchasing these in the future.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them? Let me know in the comments below!

Plum Olive & Macadamia Mega Moisturising Hair Mask | Review

Plum has already established itself as an amazing skincare brand in India with its vegan, cruelty-free and extremely effective products, and now they have launched their haircare range too! The brand has come up with two shampoos, a conditioner, and a hair mask, and I ended up buying the Olive and Macadamia Mega Moisturising Hair Mask on the day of the launch itself! Here is my review of the product after using it a couple of times.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Mega Moisturising Hair Mask | Review

About the Product (from the Plum website) – A treat, and not just a deep conditioning treatment, for your hair. Deep moisturizing, nourishing hair mask made with love from olive oil, macadamia oil, shea butter and loads of other do-gooders for stressed out tresses. Specially processed pro-vitamin B5 and film-forming hair protectants shield hair from pollution and UV. This silicone-free hair mask moisturizes, softens and deep-nourishes chemically-treated, damaged hair. Use once or twice a week for hair that looks, and indeed is, healthier, softer and shinier.

My Experience – The Plum Mega Moisturising Hair Mask comes in a huge white tub and the packaging is sleek and minimalistic as has always been the case with the brand. The mask is in the form of a thick white cream that has a pleasant natural scent that I quite enjoy. The brand recommends applying this product evenly throughout wet hair, trying to cover each strand as well as possible. This is a little difficult considering the texture of the product which is thick and not very spreadable. In any case, after application, you are supposed to leave the mask on for at least 20 minutes before rinsing off.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Mega Moisturising Hair Mask | Review

I used this hair mask straight after shampooing my hair, without using a conditioner, thinking that since the mask contains rich ingredients like olive and macadamia oil, using a conditioner might not be necessary. On its own, this hair mask does condition the hair and soften them, but it does not provide as much shine and smoothness to the hair as I had expected. I have really long, waist length hair that gets tangled pretty easily and this product does a good job at keeping them tame, but the results were not “spectacular”. I feel that I need to pair it with the shampoo and conditioner of this range to get the fabulous results that I was expecting.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Mega Moisturising Hair Mask | Review

Overall, I feel that this is a decent mask but nothing too amazing on its own. Also, working this formula into really long hair can be a little difficult and you will need a lot of product per wash if you have hair as long as mine, which makes the price of INR 875 for a 250gm jar seem a little pricey. I will try the product out with the shampoo and conditioner before passing my final verdict on this hair mask but for now, I can say that it does work well but did not meet the expectations that I had from the brand.

Vya Naturals Rose Luxury Toner | Review

Rose water is an integral part of my skincare routine. I use it as a toner when my skin is irritated or has active acne, and also as a refreshing mist throughout the day. I am currently using the Vya Naturals Rose Luxury Toner for this purpose, and today I will be reviewing this product for you.

Vya Naturals Rose Luxury Toner | Review

The Vya Naturals Rose Luxury Toner is pure steam distilled rose water that contains no alcohol or additives. It comes in a plastic bottle with a spray nozzle and is available in packs of 50ml and 100ml. The nozzle provides a fine mist of rose water and the leakproof packaging is travel-friendly too.

Since this is pure rose water, it is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It provides a boost of freshness to the skin while soothing it and calming down any redness or irritation. Pure rose water also helps with maintaining the pH balance of the skin. It can be used for minimizing the pores, and also as a liquid base for face packs.

Vya Naturals Rose Luxury Toner | Review

A 50ml bottle of the toner is priced at INR 225, which is fairly reasonable for pure steam distilled rose water. Rose water is one of the first skincare products that I ever used and the Vya Naturals Rose Luxury Toner brings back those nostalgic memories for me. This is one product that everybody should stock up on because you cannot go wrong with something so unadulterated and natural.

Nykaa Rose & White Musk Hand and Nail Creme| Review

I am someone who is obsessed with washing my hands ever so often, yet I have never owned a hand cream until now. When Nykaa recently launched their range of hand creams, I thought that it was the perfect opportunity to rectify this and offer some TLC to my hands. Nykaa’s Hand and Nail Creme comes in 7 floral fragrances, and I picked the Rose and White Musk variant. Here are my thoughts on this new product.

Nykaa Rose & White Musk Hand and Nail Creme| Review

The Nykaa Rose & White Musk Hand & Nail Creme has a soothing and warm musky rose scent. The scent is not too sickly floral and the musky undertones add a sophistication to the fragrance of roses. The cream contains many nourishing ingredients such as Avocado Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Almond Oil, which are great for keeping your hands and cuticles hydrated throughout the day. The formula is also Paraben and SLS free and the product is cruelty-free too.

The formula has a slightly whipped, creamy texture that spreads evenly on the skin. It feels slightly oily upon application but sinks into the skin within a few minutes, without leaving the hands slippery, sticky or greasy – a feeling which I dislike. The mild scent of the cream lingers on for several hours and my hands feel well-hydrated and soft all day long.

Overall, I love everything about this product, from the cute packaging to the nourishing formula and the pleasant scent. The price point of INR 275 is fairly reasonable too.  This hand cream has become a handbag essential for me and I will highly recommend it to all of you too, especially those who suffer from dry and flaky skin on the hands.

Battle of the Concealers | Loreal True Match vs Maybelline Fit Me vs Maybelline Age Rewind vs Wet n Wild Photo Focus vs L.A. Pro Conceal vs Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define

Many moons ago I wrote a blog post titled the Battle of the Foundations, which is still one of the most read posts on the blog. So today I am writing a similar post about not 2, not 3 but 6 different concealers! Yes, today I will compare the different attributes of  Loreal True Match, Maybelline Fit Me, Maybelline Age Rewind, Wet n Wild Photo Focus, L.A. Girl Pro Conceal and Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define concealers. I already have detailed individual reviews of each of these concealers on my blog, but today I will be talking more about how these products fare in comparison to each other. This is gonna be a long one folks, so grab a cuppa before you read on!

Packaging – Most of these concealers come with doe foot wands, but the L.A. Girl Pro Concealer comes in a squeezy tube with a brush which I personally dislike while the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer comes in a twist up packaging with a sponge that gets a little messy but I have made my peace with it.

Battle of the Concealers | Loreal True Match vs Maybelline Fit Me vs Maybelline Age Rewind vs Wet n Wild Photo Focus vs L.A. Pro Conceal vs Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Swatches Review

Texture – The Maybelline Age Rewind is definitely the thinnest in consistency, which makes it perfect for crease-free application in the under eye region. The Wet n Wild Photo Focus and the Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define are the creamiest and thicker formulas but these too blend quite easily and don’t look cakey. The L.A. Girl Pro Concealer, Loreal True Match and Maybelline Fit Me have similar medium creamy consistencies and are some of the easiest formulas to blend and work with, especially if you are new to wearing makeup.

Coverage and Pigmentation – The Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define concealer has the fullest coverage among all the contenders. The Maybelline Age Rewind has the sheerest coverage but it too can be built up to a decent medium. The rest of the concealers have medium coverage that is buildable to a full coverage.

Battle of the Concealers | Loreal True Match vs Maybelline Fit Me vs Maybelline Age Rewind vs Wet n Wild Photo Focus vs L.A. Pro Conceal vs Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Review Swatches

Shades – The L.A. Girl Pro Concealer comes in the largest range of shades as far as I know (24 shades on Nykaa), which is commendable. The Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define comes in 15 shades in India, Loreal True Match in 9 shades, Maybelline Fit Me and Age Rewind in 6 and 8 shades respectively, and the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Concealer is available in 6 shades in India. The L.A. Girl Pro Medium Beige (GC978), Loreal True Match Light/Medium (N4-5) and the Maybelline Fit Me Medium (25) are the closest to my actual complexion and work the best at covering blemishes and neutralizing the under eye area. The Maybelline Fit Me Sand Sable (20), Wet n Wild Photo Focus Light/Medium Beige (E841B) and the Maybelline Age Rewind Medium (130) work well as brightening concealers for the under eye for me. The Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define in the shade C9 is a little too pink and bright for me and probably C8 would be a better fit.

Price – Most of these concealers fall in the price bracket of INR 400-600, which is very reasonable for their quality. The Loreal True Match concealer is slightly expensive, and is priced at INR 999.

My Verdict – Even though all these concealers are great at something or the other, I personally prefer the shades and formula of the Loreal True Match Concealer and the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer for my skin type and complexion and reach for these two when I want to go for something that is easy to work with and provides failproof results.

So, this was my lowdown of all the concealers I have tried in the recent years, I hope that you found this comparison useful. If so, please let me know what products would you want me to compare next in the comments below!

P.S. All these concealers are available on Nykaa.com

Organic Harvest Happy Lips Pomegranate Lip Care | Review

I have been hearing a ton of praises about Organic Harvest products from a number of bloggers but had not gotten around to trying any of their products until I picked up their Happy Lips Pomegranate Lip Care recently. We all tend to pay a lot of attention to the ingredients of skincare products these days but often don’t pay much regard to what we apply on our lips. What attracted me to this product was that its primary ingredient is organic certified lanolin wax, which is extremely effective at healing chapped lips. So, here is my review of how this lip balm fared for me.

Organic Harvest Happy Lips Pomegranate Lip Care | Review

The Organic Harvest Happy Lips Pomegranate lip balm comes in a cute dome shaped deep pink jar. I am personally a huge fan of dome shaped lip balms because they are very easy to apply and less messy than twist-up sticks or lips balm pots. The balm itself is clear and looks slightly off-white in the jar. The formula is thick and nourishing but glides very easily on the lips and gets absorbed within seconds. Despite being extremely rich, the lip balm does not look crusty or cakey and does not give an ugly white cast to the lips. It is completely transparent and provides a nice shine to the lips while making them feel extremely pampered and moisturised.

Organic Harvest Happy Lips Pomegranate Lip Care | Review

The product is an excellent example of clean skincare – it doesn’t contain any parabens, mineral oil or animal ingredients. A purely plant-based product, without any colour and with added food grade pomegranate flavour that tastes delish, this lip balm is literally all that you could ask for. Priced at INR 199, it is slightly pricey, but considering its efficacy, I am willing to spend that little bit extra on this product. I am definitely happy with my first impressions of Organic Harvest and will be trying out many more products from the brand in the future. This is definitely going to be my go-to lip balm brand for the coming months because they have so many variants to choose from. Do try out this lip balm and trust me, you will not regret it!

Nykaa Cookie Crumble – Cherry Crunch | Review and Swatches

The world has tried, reviewed and moved on from the Nykaa Cookie Crumble Nail Paints, but I usually wait a little before trying out buzz-creating products, so here I am after several months, finally reviewing the Nykaa Cookie Crumble Cherry Crunch Nail Paint. So if you are still looking for a review of the Nykaa Cookie Crumble Nail Paint, read on.

Nykaa Cookie Crumble - Cherry Crunch | Review and Swatches

Nykaa Cookie Crumble - Cherry Crunch | Review and Swatches

The basic idea behind the Nykaa Cookie Crumble Nail Paint range is that these nail paints come in pretty pastel shades with tiny black specks embedded through the formula, to resemble cookie crumbs. The range comprises of 7 shades and I picked up Cherry Crunch – a muted pink shade with the cookie flecks running throughout. Cherry Crunch is a perfect nude shade for my complexion, which makes this nail paint look pretty subtle despite the black flecks. In fact, I feel that the Cookie Crumble range, in general, is a great way to flaunt some nail art without going overboard. These nail paints can even be worn to work without looking flashy.

Nykaa Cookie Crumble - Cherry Crunch | Review and Swatches

The formula of the nail paint is similar to that of other Nykaa cream nail paints. It is thin and runny and spreads quite easily on the nails and also dries up within a few minutes. The pigmentation is a little sheer, so you need 2-3 coats to get a fully opaque finish. The nail paint does not chip off for a good 4-5 days but the colour does begin to fade off a little in a couple of days. Also, because of the flecks, it is a little difficult to remove the product with a regular nail paint remover, but it is definitely not too hard either.

Priced at INR 199, this nail paint is a fun nail colour to have in your stash when you want something different and cute on your fingers 🙂

MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Black Mask | Review

Everybody is loving black peel-off masks these days and I keep trying new ones from time to time. The recent addition to my stash is the MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Mask. This peel off mark claims to deep cleanse the skin, remove blackheads, and remove dark spots. Read on to find out if the product lives up to its claims.

MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Black Mask | Review

First of all, one thing that I did not like about the product is that it also claims to have skin “whitening” properties due to the presence of Arbutin in the formula. Honestly, nobody’s skin needs to be “whitened” and I am waiting for the day when brands stop using this claim as a marketing strategy.

Moving on to the actual performance of the product though, it has all the characteristics of a decent peel off mask. The formula is a slightly thick and sticky black liquid that has a strong odor of chemicals when freshly squeezed out of the tube but the scent fades away within a few minutes. You need to cleanse your face and pat a warm wet towel on it before application to prep your skin and open up the pores. Then apply a thin and even layer of the product on the face avoiding your eyes, hair, and eyebrows. The product dries up within 15-20 minutes and when this happens your skin will feel slightly stretched out. At this point, the mask will start lifting off from the edges and you can pull it gently. Depending on how evenly you had applied the product, it will come off in large pieces. One word of caution is that this mask will pull out a majority of facial hair too, so if you have a peach fuzz then pulling the mask off will be fairly painful. However, the mask does a good job at removing white heads and dead skin, making it worth the pain. Any residual product can be washed off with water and using a toner after this mask is a must.

MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Black Mask | Review

MondSub Peel Off Charcoal Black Mask | Review

Overall, this peel off mask works pretty well but is definitely not meant for sensitive skin. It leaves the skin smooth and bump free and the price point of INR 399 is ok but I am a little worried that the product may dry out in the tube before I am able to finish it off. My hunt for a spectacular black peel off mask still continues but I am satisfied with this product until then.

Nykaa SkinGenius All-in-One BB Cream | Review

Yet another BB Cream has been launched in India, and this one is from Nykaa! The new Nykaa SkinGenius All-in-One BB Cream is a cruelty-free, SLS Free and Paraben free BB cream that contains SPF 30 and claims to provide a flawless, soft-focus finish to the skin. Here is what I thought of the product after trying it out a number of times.

Nykaa SkinGenius All-in-One BB Cream | Review

The product has a creamy formula that spreads quite easily on the skin but takes some time to settle into the skin. It may look a little streaky with a brush unless you take some time to blend it in. However, once blended nicely and allowed to sink in, the product provides an even finish to the skin without feeling heavy or cakey. Although, the formula does have a slightly sticky feel to it. Upon application, the cream provides a cooling sensation to the skin and also hydrates the skin pretty well. This is because of the presence of ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Cucumber, Jojoba and Vitamin E.

The BB cream is available in 5 shades. I picked the shade 04 – Spiced Cinnamon, which is clearly a bit too dark and orangey for my skin tone, as you can see in the arm swatch. Also, the shade oxidises and darkens a little after application. It seems yellow toned initially, but turns orangeish within a few minutes. The only way it can work for my skin tone is if I use it with a fairly bright concealer. It provides a light coverage and a very natural look to the skin but does a fine job at evening the skin tone, removing any dullness or patchiness. On my skin it stays fairly matte for 4-5 hours and the coverage stays intact too.

Nykaa SkinGenius All-in-One BB Cream | Review

Nykaa SkinGenius All-in-One BB Cream | Review

Overall, this is a nice BB cream that provides a natural, even skin tone along with hydration and sun protection. The price point of INR 349 is fairly reasonable too. The only con of the product is the fact that the shade I have oxidizes and looks too orangey. If you can find the right shade match in the range then it is an excellent product for daily use if you want a hint of coverage and decent hydration.

The Benefits of Tea Tree Oil in Skincare

Tea Tree Oil is a powerful anti-bacterial ingredient that is extremely effective at curbing acne and skin infections. Needless to say, this magical essential oil is the star ingredient in a number of skincare products that are targeted for oily and acne-prone skin. Hence, there are a number of ways in which Tea Tree Oil can be incorporated into the skincare routine. Here are some of the benefits of tea tree oil in its various forms –

SourceFile_TEA TREE OIL_1_INAOSPJ402

Tea Tree Oil Concentrate – Tea tree oil concentrates are the purest forms of the ingredient available in the market. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil is an excellent choice because it combines 15% tea tree essential oil with tamanu oil that helps with healing and renewing the skin. The best way to use tea tree oil concentrates is to apply the oil directly to active acne with a cotton swab. As an overnight spot treatment, tea tree oil will help in drying out angry breakouts within a day or two and is therefore perfect when you are prepping your acne-prone skin for a special event.

Tea Tree Oil Masks – Tea tree oil face masks help to suck out all the dirt, grime and sweat from the pores while providing a cooling and soothing sensation to irritated skin. These face masks typically combine the purifying properties of clay with the anti-bacterial action of tea tree oil to ensure the all-round health of the skin. Using a tea tree oil face mask once or twice a week is a great way to prevent new breakouts and to nip acne in the bud.

Tea Tree Oil Scrub – The addition of tea tree oil to scrubs adds anti-acne properties to the exfoliating product. Tea tree oil scrubs will unclog your pores while calming your skin and shrinking the acne. These scrubs remove the dead skin and provide a smoother and more youthful look to the skin. These scrubs are perfect for those with dull and acne-prone skin. I personally enjoy The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub because it leaves my skin thoroughly refreshed and rejuvenated as well as acne-free.

Tea Tree Oil Face Wash – Tea tree oil face washes are some of the mildest ways of adding tea tree oil in your skin regimen. If you are new to the ingredient then a face wash containing tea tree oil is a good way to acclimatize your skin to the oil. Tea tree oil face washes are great at removing excess sebum in the morning or at the end of the day while reducing the appearance of pimples. You can also use a tea tree oil face wash to wash your makeup brushes, its anti-bacterial properties will kill any bacteria on your brushes and will prevent acne caused by dirty makeup brushes.

If you are someone with oily and acne-prone skin, tea tree oil can prove to be your skin’s best friend. You can choose to incorporate any or all of these tea tree oil based products in your skincare routine to get back your flawless, glowing skin.

Cinthol Woman Deo Sticks | Review

If you wish to look more put together, fresh, and energized all in one go, you just need to make sure that you smell good at all times of the day. There are many deodorants in the market that claim to last all day, but if you live in a hot and humid environment, you would know that that is not necessarily true. This is where these dinky Cinthol Woman Deo Sticks can come to your rescue. Read on to find out more about the product.

Cinthol Woman Deo Sticks | Review

These cream deos come in handy tubes that you can throw into your handbag before heading out the door, for a quick touch up whenever you need one. The tubes have a click lid and a narrow opening for releasing the product. The packaging is very compact and easy to use, the only issue is that if the tube gets squeezed in your bag then the product will leak inside the lid and things will get a little messy.

Cinthol Woman Deo Sticks | Review

The product is in the form of a slightly runny cream that sinks into the skin within seconds and provides a refreshing scent for 5-6 hours. It also helps in keeping the sweat at bay provided you are not going to indulge in heavy physical activity. There are a number of scents available in this range and I have used the Swirl and Inspire variants. They both have subtle, sweet scents that are quite different from each other. Swirl has more of a fresh scent and Inspire has a sweet, candy scent.

Cinthol Woman Deo Sticks | Review

Priced at INR 60 per tube, these deo sticks are definitely a steal. This product is a handbag essential for me and I cannot recommend it enough.
