Maybelline Clean Express Total Clean Makeup Remover | Review

The Maybelline Clean Express Total Clean Makeup Remover was one of the first makeup removers that I ever used back when I started wearing face makeup on a daily basis. I pretty much forgot about it later, what with the insurgency of micellar waters and cleansing balms in the Indian market. I recently received this makeup remover as a freebie with my Nykaa order and decided to revisit it after trying out tons of other options over the years. Here is my review of this makeup remover that is quite well-loved by the beauty community.

The Maybelline Clean Express Total Clean Makeup Remover comes in a simple packaging with a plastic bottle and a white screw-on lid. The formula of this makeup remover is a bi-phased one, with two separate layers of water and oil-based ingredients. You need to shake the bottle before each use to mix the two layers with each other. The formula claims to remove stubborn eye and lip makeup with ease and the product does live up to this claim. One cotton pad soaked in this product removes a full face of waterproof makeup in a jiffy.

I love how this makeup remover gets rid of waterproof liner and mascara with a gentle swipe and without stinging my eyes. This is why I highly recommend it to those who wear heavy eye and lip makeup on a regular basis. For the face, however, I found this product to be too greasy and slippery. It does remove face makeup as easily as it does eye makeup but I did not like the feeling it left behind on my face. The residual film of oil was too slippery and silicony in my opinion. Of course, this doesn’t matter much because I wash my face with a face wash after using this product anyway, but if you are too particular about how your skin feels in the interim then you may want to reserve this product for eye and lip makeup only.

Overall, I feel that the Maybelline Clean Express Total Clean Makeup Remover comes closest in comparison to the Garnier Oil Infused Micellar Water, in terms of efficacy and formulation. I feel however that the Garnier one is slightly gentler and more suitable for face makeup while the Maybelline one is more suitable for eye and lip makeup. Priced at INR 310 for a 70ml bottle that will last you for 2-3 months, this product is a good affordable option for those who wear a full face of waterproof makeup quite frequently. Make sure to remove all traces of the oily residue with a good face wash immediately afterwards, if you buy this product!
