Masaba By Nykaa Lipstick and Nail Enamel | Cool Guy | Review and Swatches

One of the most talked-about makeup launch of the season is the Masaba By Nykaa Lips and Tips collection, which contains 12 colour co-ordinated lipsticks and nail paints in a beautiful packaging designed by renowned designer Masaba Gupta. This collection contains a stunning range of nudes, reds and pinks to suit different Indian skin tones. I was eyeing the shades Lemonade (a rusty warm nude), Kaleing Me Softly (a deep pink), and Pataka (a rich deep red), but finally gave in to my low-buy and picked up just the lipstick and nail enamel in the shade Cool Guy. Read on to find out my thoughts on the shade and formula of these products.

Let us start with the packaging of the products. Each lipstick comes in a metal casing with a cardboard lid that displays a different Masaba print for each shade, and the corresponding nail paint has the same print on its cap. If you are a packaging junkie then this is definitely a collectible item for you and I can easily see some enthusiasts buying all the lipsticks just for the packaging. Personally, I am a huge fan of colour co-ordinated lips and nails, so the range gets bonus points to cater to my obsessive nature. Also, I feel that the range offers shades for different Indian complexions and undertones and can easily see a lot of shades working across skin tones, which is another plus of this range.

Coming to the shade Cool Guy, I was slightly concerned that the colour may wash me out because brownish pink nudes often tend to do so, but luckily this one does not! It is a beautiful pink nude with brown and mauve undertones which looks more mauvish in some lights and browner in others. It is a deep nude for my skin tone (NC35) and I feel that it will serve as a nude for skin tones up to NC42 and will be a nice dusty pink for fair skin tones. The colour of the lipstick and the nail enamel match perfectly under most lights, which is quite commendable.

The formula of the lipstick is a velvety satin-matte which provides full coverage on my lips in two swipes. It may be a bit sheer for pigmented lips but it can be layered a couple of times without the product bundling or cakeing up on the lips. I personally don’t like glossy lipsticks, but this one is largely matte with a slight satiny sheen which looks quite flattering. This lipstick is very comfortable and hydrating on the lips, but I will recommend scrubbing your lips to make sure it does not cling on to any texture. As for the longevity, I was quite surprised at how long this lipstick lasted on my lips. The formula is not transfer-proof but fades evenly every time you eat or drink something. After eating an oily meal, the colour disappeared slightly from the centre of my lips but remained intact on the rest of my lips. Overall, you may need to apply it after 5-6 hours of wear or after a meal but it does last a long time for a bullet lipstick that is not completely matte.

Coming to the formula of the nail paint, it is a creamy, glossy formula which is slightly thicker than the standard Nykaa Nail Enamels. It is super pigmented and I personally like applying just one coat of this formula for an opaque finish. It does take a few minutes more than the standard Nykaa nail paints to dry completely but I do not mind this because I do not have to layer the product up. The longevity of the formula is also good and it does not chip or lose its shine for 4-5 days. Overall, it is a good product if you like glossy, creamy nailpaints.

To conclude, I would say that the formula of both the lipstick and the nail paint is quite good and the price point of INR 599 and INR 199 is really affordable for a collectible item. You should at least pick up one lipstick from this collection because the shades are really pretty and wearable and the formula is very comfortable.
