We all prefer to stay away from heavy foundations during the unforgiving summer months, but we still crave for something that can even out our skin tone and last all day long. Thanks to Lakme India, I have the perfect light-weight foundation recommendation for all of you. The brand kindly sent me all 12 shades of the Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Foundation, and here is why I think that this product is the perfect everyday summer foundation.
The Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mouse Foundation comes in a travel-friendly blush pink tube with a metallic finish cap. You get 25gm of product for INR 550, which is a fairly affordable price for the quality and quantity of the product. True to its name, the formula has a whipped, moussey texture that looks pretty thick to begin with, but once you apply it on the skin, it blends like a dream and leaves behind no cakiness. I prefer to apply this foundation with my fingers because it is super easy to blend that way. I will recommend shaking the tube before using this product for the first time, because the liquid component may have separated a bit from the cream component. After giving the tube a good shake before the first use, I did not observe this separation happening again.
Speaking more about the formula, the fluffy, moussey texture of this foundation settles to a light-weight and comfortable matte on the skin. You might even forget that you are wearing foundation on your face, that is how light-weight it is. It provides light coverage, which can be built up to semi-medium coverage by going in with a second layer. Even after layering twice, the foundation does not look cakey on the skin and one cannot tell from afar that you are wearing a foundation at all. The coverage is sufficient to even out the skin tone and provide it a smooth, matte finish, but it will not cover dark circles or bigger blemishes completely without a concealer. The product stays put on my combination skin for around 5-6 hours, after which it starts shifting a bit and needs to be powdered a little to make it last another couple of hours. If you are someone with normal skin then this foundation will give you the perfect natural matte finish without any compact, but if you have oilier skin, you can set it with a compact to get a velvety matte finish.
In terms of the shade range, the brand has done a decent job by launching 12 shades that cover yellow, beige, and peachy undertones. I am the shade 05 Natural Sand, which means that the shades are quite well-balanced across the skin tone spectrum, considering that I have fair to medium skin tone by Indian standards. This is a step in the right direction considering how shade inclusivity is what we all are demanding from new foundations.
Overall, if you are someone who prefers more natural looking, light-weight makeup then the Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Mousse Foundation will be right up your street. I am honestly in awe of how seamlessly this formula meshes with my skin while providing even and long-lasting coverage. I highly recommend it to all of you who have shunned heavy foundations in the summer heat!
