How You Can Practise Sustainable Fashion Every Day!

Happy New Year everybody! 2019 is here, and I am sure many of you have numerous resolutions for the new year. Today, I would like to remind you that we should also make some resolutions to practise sustainable living, to make sure that we do not continue to exploit our planet and its resources as we have for several centuries. Sustainable fashion has been gaining significant momentum over the past few years and it is time that you too should join the movement. Opting for brands that source their raw materials in a sustainable manner and manufacture products in small batches, adopting the principles of sustainability is one way, but you can also make some changes in your day to day life to make your wardrobe more sustainable. Read on to find out how!

Restyle – The easiest way to practise sustainable fashion is to restyle your clothing instead of shoving it to the back of your closet because you have worn it so many times already. Pairing up the same item with different accessories, scarves or complementary items of clothing can create a whole new look. While picking up new clothes, try to invest in pieces that can be worn in a number of different ways. If you are fine with wearing the same outfit in the same way on numerous occasions then that is awesome too! πŸ™‚

Repair – Remember that kurti you stopped wearing just because a button fell off or the hem got ripped? Create a bundle of all such clothes that need minor repairs or alterations and either get to it yourself or get them sorted by a tailor. You will refresh your wardrobe without buying any new clothes!

Rent – With so many websites popping up that offer clothes on rent, you do not need to splurge on an outfit that you will wear only on one special occasion. Renting will allow you to save your money and also the planet!

Donate, share, and borrow – Don’t let the clothes that you are bored of gather dust in your closet, donate them or exchange them with your friends and family members to put them to use! You can also convert old sarees into kurtis or jackets or old jeans into shorts to give them a new life!

This year, I am going to pay attention to making my wardrobe more sustainable by putting these principles into practice. Do join me and let us work towards this goal together!

  1. I try to keep as many of my clothes as I can for as long as I can, I think it’s my favorite way of trying to be sustainable with my wardrobe
