WiseShe Eyeshadow Brushes | Review

After being thoroughly impressed with the WiseShe Contour and Powder Brush I finally picked up all the eyeshadow brushes from the brand as well. It is wonderful to see that an Indian brand, that too one started by a fellow blogger, has come up with brushes that are comparable in terms of quality to international brands. The makeup game in India is definitely changing for the better! Anyway, here is my detailed review of the WiseShe Eyeshadow Brushes after using them to create several eyeshadow looks.

WiseShe Eyeshadow Brushes | Review

The WiseShe Eyeshadow Brushes come in two different sets – a pair of crease blending brushes and a pair of flat eyeshadow brushes. Both the sets come in sturdy black cardboard boxes with foam padding inside. The brushes also have long black handles that provide a good grip for applying and blending eyeshadow precisely and effortlessly. All the brushes have densely packed bristles that pick up enough product to provide decent pigmentation in one go, and the bristles are soft enough to blend the products beautifully.

The crease brushes have rounded ends, and the bristles are slightly stiffer, which is perfect for getting deeper pigmentation in the crease and for creating precise cut crease looks. The flat brushes, on the other hand, are slightly softer, for a more blended look all over the lids. These flat brushes will also be perfect for creating halo looks. The Crease Brushes are currently available on Amazon for INR 650, and the Flat Brushes are available for INR 550. So for INR 1200, you can purchase all the brushes that you will need to create any eyeshadow look.

WiseShe Eyeshadow Brushes | Review

Overall, I am fully impressed with these eyeshadow brushes, just as much as I was with the contour brush. These brushes can be used for creating both simple and intricate eye makeup looks. Also, the quality is excellent and I am sure that these brushes will last me for several years. If you are in the market for some eyeshadow brushes then do grab these while they are still on discount on Amazon.

The Battle of the BB Creams/CC Creams | Ponds vs Lakme vs The Body Shop vs Nykaa

BB creams and CC creams are a great alternative to full-blown foundations for those who are looking for a more natural finish with their makeup or who don’t want to burn too big a hole in their pockets. They are also excellent for the days when you want to be ready in a jiffy because since they provide a more natural coverage, they blend pretty easily and quickly. They are fast becoming a favourite of teenage girls who have just started using makeup and even those who are pro at blending have at least one for the “no makeup-makeup days”. While in the east BB creams and CC creams come with a ton of skincare benefits, the variants in India are pretty much tinted moisturisers with some SPF or essential oils. Here are the details of the BB/CC creams I have used till date and how they fared for me!

BB Creams/CC Creams Comparison Swatches Review | Ponds vs Lakme vs The Body Shop vs Nykaa

1. Ponds White Beauty BB Cream – This BB Cream is used and loved by a number of fellow bloggers, but I have a major issue with the words “Fairness Cream” printed on the packaging and the fact that this cream comes in only one shade. That being said, the reason why so many people swear by this cream is that if the shade matches your skin tone, the cream will provide an even brightened finish to your skin with almost medium coverage. The formula is a slightly thick, fairly pigmented cream that blends in quite easily with the skin. Also, the cream provides SPF 30, eliminating the need for sunscreen too. If only Ponds could stop using fairness as a marketing agenda and bring out more shades, this would be a decent product for an extremely affordable price of INR 165 for an 18gm tube. Click here to buy.

2. Lakme 9 to 5 CC Cream (Bronze) – The Lakme 9 to 5 CC Cream is the light-weight cousin of the Ponds BB Cream in terms of formula. It is slightly more watery, has a fresh citrusy scent and the shade Bronze is a slightly yellower version of the Ponds cream, but with slightly lighter coverage. It comes in 4 different shades (Bronze being the second lightest) that should cover most Indian skin tones considering that it does blend in quite seamlessly with the natural skin tone. If you want a CC cream that you can simply apply and forget about then this product is meant for you. It provides a more glowy finish than the Ponds cream that gives a more matte finish, so this one might not work for extremely oily skin types. A 30gm tube of this CC Cream is priced at INR 315. Click here to buy.

3. The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream (02) – If you are someone with acne prone skin who wants to treat their pimples while covering them up then The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream is your best bet. This BB cream provides light to medium coverage and has the cooling goodness of tea tree oil that actually helps in shrinking my active acne. This BB cream is truly the best of both worlds in terms of skincare and makeup for my skin type. My only issue with the product is that it has slight pink/greyish undertones which do not work the best with my warmer undertones, but I do use the product when my skin is acting up nevertheless (I am a shade 02 in the range). Priced at approximately INR 1200 in India, this one is the most expensive for sure and is best reserved for the days when your skin is really acting up. Click here to buy.

4. Nykaa Skin Genius BB Cream (04 – Spiced Cinnamon) – Last on this list is the Nykaa Skin Genius BB Cream. This one also has a good formula that provides medium coverage and a smooth finish to the skin, but it oxidises like crazy and turns orange on my skin, as you can see in the swatch. If you are able to find a suitable shade in this range (currently available in 5 shades) then it is a good BB cream that keeps the skin hydrated without making it greasy. The price of INR 349 for a 30gm tube is affordable too. Click here to buy.

BB Creams/CC Creams Comparison Swatches Review | Ponds vs Lakme vs The Body Shop vs Nykaa

Overall, while each of these products has their own pros and cons, my personal favourite is the Lakme 9 to 5 CC Cream because of its light-weight formula, my skin but better coverage, and yellow brightening undertones. It lasts for 4-6 hours on the skin and is excellent for wearing to college or office if you just want to even out your skintone a bit or hide small spots.

Have you tried any of these BB/CC Creams? Which one is your fave? Let me know in the comments below!

The Pink Stuff – Miracle Cleaning Paste | Review

For the first time in the history of this blog, I am reviewing a cleaning product on Lipstick For Lunch. Yes, I know that many of you might not be interested in this at all, and no, this is not a sponsored post, but I do know that if you are someone who is struggling with Diwali cleaning at the moment then you will thank me for this. Today I am going to be talking about The Pink Stuff, which is indeed a Miracle Cleaning Paste. Famous YouTuber Louise Pentland brought my attention to this product, and here is why this jar of pink goodness will change your life!

The Pink Stuff - Miracle Cleaning Paste | Review

Even though this product looks like a face mask, The Pink Stuff is, in fact, an abrasive paste that can help remove tough stains in a jiffy. You can head over to their website for a detailed data sheet to figure out whether you can use it on a particular surface or not, but I have primarily used it on metal utensils and fittings, and this product truly removes everything from burnt stains on saucepans to rust marks on taps with minimal effort. You need to rub the tiniest amount of the product on the stain with a soft cloth and then wipe it clean within a few minutes to find the surface looking as bright as new!

Even though the claims sound too good to be true, trust me, I have removed the most stubborn of stains with this product and couldn’t believe my own eyes. The product doesn’t have a strong scent and it did not irritate my skin, but I will recommend you to go through the ingredient list to make sure that it is safe for you to use and also, do test it on a small patch of any surface you want to clean with this stuff because it is definitely potent.

The best part is that a huge 500g jar of the product is available on Amazon India for INR 229 only! Trust me this product is a steal for the price. If you are in the mood for some deep cleaning this Diwali then you need to have this product in your kitty!

Wella Thermal Image EIMI Heat Protection Spray | Review

If you use any kind of heat on your hair for styling then using a heat protection spray is a must. If you are not doing so, you are simply contributing towards making your hair dull and lifeless. I usually stick with my trusty Toni and Guy Heat Protection Spray, but this time I decided to try something new and purchased the Wella Thermal Image EIMI Heat Protection Spray. Read on to find out whether the gamble paid off or not!

Wella Thermal Image EIMI Heat Protection Spray | Review

The very first thing about this product that I need to tell you is that do not buy this product online, or at least from Amazon. The lid of this spray bottle does not click into place and almost one-eighth of the product had leaked all over by the time the package reached me. Even other buyers on Amazon have complained about the leakage in the reviews so mine was not a one-off case.

Wella Thermal Image EIMI Heat Protection Spray | Review

If however, you find this product in a perfectly sealed condition at a store or a salon then I think you must grab it because it is a really nice heat protectant. It leaves my hair feeling much silkier and smoother after a blow dry than they feel without using a heat protectant beforehand. This is perhaps due to the unique 2-phase formula (which you need to shake before use) which has some kind of oil to provide added smoothness and gloss to the hair. The other part of the 2-phase formula provides heat protection up to 220 degrees Celsius, which does seem effective considering that my hair doesn’t look dead or frizzy after blow drying.

Also, it provides a decent hold when I use it with styling tools, without making the hair look stiff or crispy. I usually use this product before I curl my hair and the spray extends the life of my curls by almost a day, providing a natural wavy finish. It does have a scent but nothing too overpowering, and the fragrance doesn’t linger in the hair.

Wella Thermal Image EIMI Heat Protection Spray | Review

Priced at INR 600 for a 150ml bottle, this product is definitely worth the investment because it not only provides heat protection but also makes the hair smoother and softer and increases the longevity of hairstyles. Just make sure that you do not get a leaky packaging and you should be good!

Plum Olive & Macadamia Haircare Range | Review

I had recently reviewed the Plum Olive & Macadamia Hair Mask on the blog and had not been as impressed with the product as I had expected. I had mentioned then that I will try the mask again with the shampoo and conditioner from the range to see how the trio works together. As promised, here is my review of the shampoo, conditioner and mask as a combo.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Haircare Range | Review

Starting with the Plum Olive and Macadamia Shampoo, this product has a very lovely pleasant smell and a slightly liquidy texture. It foams quite readily and leaves the scalp feeling squeaky clean with a very small amount of product. However, it does leave the hair feeling slightly stripped, so using a conditioner along with this shampoo is a must.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Haircare Range | Review

It is the conditioner from the range that surprised me the most. Since this range is meant for dry and damaged chemically treated hair, I was expecting the conditioner to be quite rich in texture, however it turned out to be very milky and liquidy, unlike any other conditioner I have used. It does a decent job at smoothening rough hair, but again, does not impart as much softness to them as I would have liked.

Plum Olive & Macadamia Haircare Range | Review

Paired with the mask, I did get slightly better results than the last time that I had used the mask on its own. My hair did feel smoother and less damaged, but the softness I was craving for was still missing. So overall, the Plum Olive and Macadamia Range only gets 3 out 5 stars from me for my hair type, which is fine and rough hair with oily roots. I have heard better reviews of the range from other bloggers, so maybe these products may work for you if your hair type is different from mine. Personally, I find that the products are decent but I won’t repurchase them because they are slightly expensive for what they do.

Have you tried this haircare range from Plum? Did it work for you? Let me know in the comments below!

Dr. Charcoal Non Electric Air Purifier | Review

Since the past few years, I have been suffering from frequent allergies, which are extremely annoying and often render me useless for a couple of days. In order to reduce the allergens and humidity in my house, I have tried a number of solutions and products, and today I will be talking about one such product that has actually helped resolve my allergy issues to a large extent. This amazing product is the Dr. Charcoal Non-Electric Air Purifier. Read on to find out more about this product.

Dr. Charcoal Non-Electric Air Purifier is basically an activated charcoal based product that absorbs allergens, humidity, odours, and pollutants. It comes in small sacklike pouches with the activated charcoal filled inside them. These pouches are available in 3 sizes – Small (75 Grams), Medium (200 Grams), and Large (500 Grams). I had purchased the large pouch several months back and the brand kindly sent me a medium-sized pouch recently. You can choose from among the three sizes based on the size of the space where you want to use the product. These pouches can be placed in the fridge, shoe cabinets, different rooms of the house, wardrobes etc. The product is completely non-toxic and simply works on the natural adsorption properties of activated charcoal. Instead of just masking bad odours with the means of chemicals, like most room fresheners do, this product actually absorbs the odors and eliminates pollutants and allergens. This is something that I can vouch for because the frequency of my allergies has gone down drastically ever since I started using this product.

Priced between INR 299 to INR 799, these non-electric air purifiers are definitely a good investment because they last for up to a year and can be reactivated by placing in the sun periodically. If you are someone who suffers from an allergy, or your home always has a damp smell to it, or you have a little baby at home who needs to be protected from pollutants, then the Dr. Charcoal Air Purifiers are a must buy for you. Basically, this product is a must buy for everyone and I highly recommend it!

WiseShe Cheek Contour and Powder Brush | Review

Makeup brushes for me are truly an investment because the right ones will last you for years and have the potential to make your face look flawless regardless of the brands of makeup products you use. This is why I am extremely wary of buying the generic makeup brushes available in stores and on Amazon, because streaky brush strokes, rough bristles and brush hair that shed all over the face are some of my biggest nightmares. While I largely invest only in Real Techniques and Zoeva brushes, my interest was piqued when I noticed the WiseShe brushes launched by Anamika, the blogger behind WiseShe. I picked up the WiseShe Cheek Contour and Powder Brush recently and here is what I think of it so far.

WiseShe Cheek Contour and Powder Brush | Review

First of all, it is the little things that often show the quality of a product even before you start using it – in this case, it was the sturdy cardboard box with a velvet cushioning inside that made me feel that WiseShe is a brand that cares about its customers. The handle of the brush is beautifully crafted with a circular wooden pattern that somehow reminded me of the wands from Harry Potter 🙂 As for the bristles, they are synthetic ones and are SUPER soft to touch!

WiseShe Cheek Contour and Powder Brush | Review

This brush with its extremely soft bristles is perfect for applying blush because it picks up a very small amount of powder that helps in giving a natural flush to the cheeks. It is also ideal for dusting off the setting powder after baking and can be used for contouring if you are looking for a natural shadow on your face as opposed to something intense. While my other contouring brushes pick up a lot more product, which helps in quickly creating a more pigmented look, blending in the colour takes a lot more effort with them, whereas this brush significantly reduces the blending time for me. Also, the long and sturdy handle makes the application of makeup fairly simple.

WiseShe Cheek Contour and Powder Brush | Review

Available at a discounted price of INR 500 on Amazon, this brush is quite worth the money considering the price of brushes from international brands. I am eyeing the eye shadow brushes from the brand already and am hoping that they release a foundation brush soon too. If you are a beginner in makeup who is looking for a reliable, good quality brush or someone who just wants to expand their brush collection then picking up the WiseShe Cheek Contour and Powder Brush is a must!

Rustic Art Aloe Vera Gel | Review

Guest post by Sneha Narayanan from Sneha’s Expression (

Today, our guest blogger Sneha talks about a product that really helped her acne-prone skin. Read on to find out what she thinks about the Rustic Art Aloe Vera Gel.

Rustic Art’s Aloe vera gel is an all-purpose gel. It has no added colors, no fragrance, and is naturally fresh. It can be used as a moisturizer or an astringent and it heals acne, infections, inflammation, minor cuts, and burns. It also balances excess oil, and can be used as an antiseptic, an aftershave or a nappy rash cream too!

Aloe Vera, Lemon Extracts, Natural Preservative of TCLS (Tumeric oil, clove oil, lemongrass oil)

I had acne a few months back and started using this gel after trying the variants from Patanjali as well as Aloe Veda, and I must say I have got hooked to this. As I have used three tubs of Rustic Art’s Aloe Vera gel and am about to open my new tub, I decided to review this amazing gel.
I have oily and sensitive skin. No cream or moisturizer suits me except this. It balances excess oil and also has antiseptic properties. I use this gel as a night cream. I wash my face and apply it before going to bed. I also apply a thick layer under the eyes, so you can also use it as an under eye cream for dark circles. It’s lightweight and soothing.
You can also apply it as a day cream. It’s a must for all oily-skinned beauties. It doesn’t have any chemicals or parabens, which is an added bonus. My brother uses it as an aftershave and it works well for that purpose too.
While this gel is good for removing zits, it may not be as effective for severe acne. When I was undergoing treatment for Acne Vulgaris, the doctor prescribed me Doxycycline, and I used this gel as a moisturizer and it worked well.
The only drawback is the packaging because if two or more people use the same tub, it may be unhygienic.

COLAB Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo | Review

I have known about the COLAB Dry Shampoos ever since their launch in the UK, thanks to the brand’s association with famous YouTuber Ruth Crilly, and its fab reviews by Zoella. I was happy to notice recently that the brand is finally available in India, and at decent prices too! I picked up the Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo from the range that comes in a black spray can, because you all know, your girl can do with some volume in her hair! Here are my thoughts after using this product.

COLAB Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo | Review

The COLAB Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo claims to provide an instant lift and body to the hair, and I am happy to report that this product actually lives up to its claims. The formula comes out in the form of a white powder that sucks up all the greasiness of the hair and provides texture and volume that lasts for at least two days. Once you work the product into your hair, it does not leave a white cast. The only downside of this product is that it provides a lot of texture to the hair, which is nice if you have fine and limp hair to begin with, but can also make your hair rough to the touch, so you may have to be careful with how much product you use in one go. It also has a strong perfumey scent that may irritate you while application, but it does not linger in the hair.

COLAB Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo | Review

Overall, this product reminds me a lot of the Batiste XXL Volume Spray, which is one of my favourite volumizing sprays. The COLAB Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo is perfect for those with limp hair and greasy roots, if they want a ton of extra volume and a decent amount of hold in their hair. While it will take away the shine and make your hair look slightly rough, I am personally fine with it because it literally gives the illusion of double the volume at my roots. Priced at INR 629 for a 200ml can, this product is a must buy in my opinion, and you can get it for even cheaper on some online shopping sites like Myntra. Have you tried anything from COLAB yet? Let me know in the comments below!

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation – Mauve 1 | Review and Swatches

I have finally found a true nude for my lips, the perfect “My Lips But Better Shade”. It is the shade Mauve-1 from the Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation range. While it is clear that this lip shade is my go-to these days for when I have no other makeup on or when I have gone heavy on the eye makeup, here is how this product fares in other aspects.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation - Mauve 1 | Review and Swatches

The Maybelline Lip Gradation Lipsticks are twist up crayons with a sponge on the other end to create the “gradient lips” effect. Because the shade Mauve-1 is a perfect nude for my lips, I cannot really create a gradient effect with this shade, but I basically bought this product for its colour and formula anyway. The shade is a taupish-mauve, which has stronger brown undertones than pink or mauve undertones. The formula is pretty opaque and has a very unique velvety matte texture that glides easily on the lips. Since it has a velvety texture, it is somewhere between a creamy matte and a flat matte and does transfer a little when you eat or drink.

It is pretty opaque on the lips in one or two swipes and the thin crayon tip allows precise application. I personally find the formula pretty comfortable but it does exaggerate any lines or dryness, so if you have really dry lips then you would need to hydrate and scrub them prior to using this product. It stays on the lips for a good 4-5 hours, and fades evenly with time. It does stain the lips a little but since this particular shade is so light, it is pretty easy to remove.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation - Mauve 1 | Review and Swatches

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gradation - Mauve 1 | Review and Swatches

Priced at INR 550, the product is slightly pricey considering it is a Maybelline lipstick, but I don’t mind paying the amount for the formula. If you want a lip colour that you can put on without giving much thought to and simply heading out the door, then you must pick up this lipstick.

Nykaa 7-in-1 Nail Spa | Review and Swatches

A few months back, Nykaa had released a range of nailcare products specially formulated to provide nourishment to the nails. I recently tried out the 7-in-1 Nail Spa from the range, which claims to provide the following 7 benefits to the nails – Strength, Hardening, Protection, Smoothing, Hydration, Nutrition, and Shine. Read on to find out whether this product lived up to my expectations or not.

Nykaa 7-in-1 Nail Spa | Review and Swatches

The Nykaa 7-in-1 Nail Spa is basically a slightly translucent, milky nail polish that provides a “My nails but better” look with two coats. It can be worn on its own or under another polish as a base coat. The formula is not thick, spreads easily on the nail and provides some shine too. It has a mild fruity scent which is quite pleasant. The formula contains Acetyl-Methionine and Keratin-like Peptide to prevent breakage and Hexanal to harden the nails. It also contains amino acids to stimulate growth, vitamin E and violet extracts for hydration, and argan and Baobab oils for nourishment.

While I have never suffered from growth issues, I do experience chipping of the upper parts of my nails quite frequently. After using this nail paint, my nails have not chipped or broken at all, and I am pretty pleased about it. Additionally, when used as a base coat, this nail product extends the life of nail paints by at least 2 days.

Nykaa 7-in-1 Nail Spa | Review and Swatches

Overall, I am satisfied with this product purely because it strengthened my nails and prevented breakage. While it does provide a nice shine too, I personally prefer using it as a base coat, so the shine is lost on me. Priced at INR 249, this product is definitely worth the buy if you are suffering from weak nails that are prone to breakage.
