I am usually wary of buying clothes from new online brands because of my worries regarding the sizing and the quality of the clothes. However, when the lovely folks from Oomph In My Closet approached me, I couldn’t resist saying yes to their trendy kurtis that are definitely fashion forward and unique at the same time. I have realised over the years that the pieces of clothing that I really love and re-use the most are the ones that are not the standard styles that are “in” at the moment but a different take on them, and the kurtis from Oomph fit this description perfectly!
I loved the fabric of these kurtis because it is light weight and smooth – aka perfect for the summers. I am a size XS in the brand and this is a comfortable fit for me, which I prefer as opposed to body hugging kurtis, especially in the sultry weather. I love the fact that the brand combines unique colours, patterns, and prints with latest trends such as tassels and ties, to create offbeat designs that are not cheap replicas of designer wear.
Pricewise, these kurtis are quite affordable, with most designs being priced at INR 700-800 on Flipkart. This is a great price because the popular brands provide kurtis of similar quality at around INR 1200. So this brand definitely gets a big thumbs up from me and I am already eyeing more pieces from their range.
If you are someone with super long, super thin, knotty hair, then one of the objects that you fear the most would be your hair brush. Getting all those super fine knots out is an arduous task, especially if you use heat on your hair in any form. I go through this ordeal every single day, and the only week when my hair is extremely manageable and easy to brush through is when I get an argan oil hair spa done at my local salon, and they always use Moroccan Oil products on my hair. In an attempt to extend the softening and smoothing effects of the occasional hair spa, I decided to buy Moroccan Oil products for my home-haircare routine, and since the products from the brand are not the cheapest on the block, I decided to experiment with just the Moroccan Oil Moisture Repair Conditioner first. Read on to find out my thoughts about this product.
This conditioner is in the form of a light cream that smells heavenly, just like the products at the spa that I love. I use it on my wet, shampooed hair and rinse off after 2-3 minutes. Despite being an argan oil based product, the conditioner is not heavy on the hair at all and does not leave behind any oily or greasy residue. However, it detangles the hair beautifully and leaves them less prone to tangling until the next wash. It reduces frizziness and helps my hair fall into uniform waves, which is their natural shape. It does not make my hair unusually glossy and does not fare exceptionally well in the shine department, but it does reduce the roughness of the hair and makes it softer to the touch. I also love the minimalistic design of the bottle and the press lid, which makes the product travel-friendly.
Overall, I feel that to replicate the full effect of the professional hair spa, I will have to buy the entire hair care range from the brand, which includes the shampoo, mask, and oil based treatment. However, to extend the effects of the spa or to make the hair smoother than it is with most conditioners, this product is a good choice. The price of INR 1530 for a 250 ml bottle is definitely not budget-friendly but I think it is an investment that I needed to make for my perpetually rough hair. Will keep you posted if I buy more products from the brand. Are you going to try this conditioner? Let me know how it works for you if you do!
Just like people have combination skin, with some dry patches on the face and some oily, some of us have combination hair i.e greasy roots and dry ends. The trouble with combination hair is that if you use products meant for dry hair, then your roots become oily, and if you use products meant for greasy hair then your ends become dry like a bird’s nest. Which is why I decided to share a tip with you today for combination hair. Some of you might be aware of this, but in case you aren’t, here is something that I call multi-masking for the hair.
So basically, if you have combination hair like mine, use a shampoo and conditioner/mask meant for oily hair, so that your roots don’t look greasy and your hair becomes voluminous. However, when using the conditioner or mask, mix in some oil such as argan oil, almond oil or olive oil in the product that you apply to the dry regions of your hair only. For the rest of your hair, use the mask without the oil mixed in it. Keep the mask on for 5-10 minutes, or as per the usage instructions, and then rinse it off. This method ensures that the oil is able to add extra hydration to your dry ends but does not add greasiness to the rest of your hair. Since the excess oil gets washed off along with the mask, there are no chances of it somehow reaching your roots while brushing your hair etc, which is something that happens with leave on serums and oils. This trick is something that gives me the best results with my hair and makes it look smooth yet voluminous from the roots to the ends.
Have you ever tried multi-masking for the hair? Do let me know your experience in the comments below!
All the coffee lovers here put your hands up! We are the crazy caffeine addicts who cannot give up their coffee no matter what the weather or time of day, but with the mercury constantly rising, a glass of chilled ice coffee sounds way more inviting than a steaming mug of latte, doesn’t it? This is where the Sleepy Owl Cold Brew Coffee Brew Packs come to the rescue. These easy to make cold brew packs do not need any equipment for making cafe style iced coffee at home. Read on to find out how to use these packs for your daily caffeine fix.
The Sleepy Owl Cold Brew Coffee Packs come in individual packets of coffee wrapped in filter paper. You just need to add one of these packets to a jug of water and let it brew overnight at room temperature. The next day, just pour this coffee into a glass, add ice, milk, and sugar as per your liking and there you have it, a perfect glass of iced coffee without burning a hole in your pocket. The Sleepy Owl Coffee has a smooth and strong flavour to it and once you figure out the right ratio of coffee, milk and sugar as per your taste, you will definitely stop making regular trips to your local Starbucks. However, I will have to say that this product is more suitable for those who prefer less milk and more water in their coffee.
You can purchase a box of 5 brew packs for INR 500 from Sleepyowl.co and each brew pack will give you at least 3 cups of coffee. This is definitely a great price for high-quality cold brew coffee. While I am not a coffee connoisseur of coffee, I do enjoy the beverage and have had my fair share of caffeine in my life to say that this product is worth a shot. So do try it out and let me know how your taste buds like it.
So Plum has recently been in the news for all the right reasons. It has now been approved by PETA for being cruelty-free and vegan, another feather added to the brand’s cap for providing clean and no-nonsense skincare at affordable prices. One of their excellent products for summer is the Plum Hello Aloe Ultra Lite Day Lotion, which I will be reviewing for all of you today.
The Plum Ultra Lite Day Lotion contains the goodness of aloe vera and Vitamin E and provides hydration without being heavy or greasy. For the longest time, I thought that this product is an aloe vera gel, which is why I never purchased it. However, when I received a free sample of this product with my order, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is actually a cream based product, which I personally prefer during the day, and the SPF 20 makes it perfect for summers. Texturewise, I would say that it is somewhere in between a lotion and a cream, it is creamier than the Plum Green Tea Lotion but is not greasy, and should be suitable for dry to normal skin.
As claimed by the brand, the product is indeed very gentle on the skin and is therefore suitable for those with sensitive skin. While aloe vera gel on its own is ideal for oily skinned people, the incorporation of the ingredient in this particular formula allows dry-skinned people to enjoy the benefits of aloe vera, which is very innovative in my opinion. Also, since I have a sample of the product, I got a tube, but the actual packaging of the full-sized product is in the form of a bottle with a pump which makes it completely utilitarian.
Overall, I do not have anything negative to say about this product at all. If you are someone who enjoys light-weight skincare which is not laden with chemicals then this lotion will definitely become your favourite. So do try out this product and let me know how it worked for you!
Matte lipsticks are definitely my jam but sometimes my lips need something a little more hydrating, which is why I recently picked up 2 shades from the Sugar Never Say Dry Creme Lipstick Collection. I went for the shades 06 Raisin Helen and 07 Mauve Actually, and here is what I think about these lippies.
The formula of the Sugar Never Say Dry Creme Lipsticks is super creamy, soft, and intensely pigmented. It glides on the lips and provides even pigmentation in one swipe. The lipsticks have a slight sheen to them but are not too glossy and do not contain any shimmer. They are pretty buttery, and while they do not slide too much on the lips, application will be a little easier if you use a liner first.
The shade Raisin Helen is a beautiful yellow-toned brown which will be a nice deep nude for most Indian skin tones. It is warm toned without being rusty and is a great alternative to a pinky nude. On the other hand, the shade Mauve Actually is a much bolder colour which is a deep mauve, almost like a toned down version of a plum shade. This shade too will suit all Indian skin tones but will look better for an outing or special occasion than for daily wear.
Since the formula is not matte, it is obviously not super long-lasting, but it does stay put on the lips for a good 4-5 hours if you do not eat anything. It transfers while eating but fades pretty gracefully, leaving a light wash of colour behind. Also, my lips feel super nourished when I use these lipsticks, so I do not mind reapplying them every 4 hours or so. Priced at INR 499, these lipsticks are quite good for the price and the quality is really impressive, so do check out the shade range of this collection if you are on the hunt for creamy lipsticks.
Some skincare ingredients are so amazingly effective that they have stood the test of time and have managed to retain a spot in skincare recipes ranging from age-old grandma’s concoctions to modern pharmaceutical skincare ranges. Oatmeal is one such ingredient that is known to be extremely gentle yet excellent at relieving the skin from irritation and itchiness caused by rashes, allergic reactions, and other skin conditions. In fact, it is so gentle and effective that oatmeal baths are even recommended for infants suffering from skin infections. Dermavive, an Australian brand that has recently launched in India, utilizes this time-tested ingredient in the Dermavive Moisturising Lotion that contains Natural Colloidal Oatmeal. The brand sent me the product to review a few days back and here is my review of this moisturising lotion.
The Dermavive Moisturising Lotion has Natural Colloidal Oatmeal as its star ingredient. As I mentioned before, oatmeal is a scientifically proven skincare ingredient that helps to maintain the natural pH balance or acidity of the skin, reduces dryness, and creates a protective barrier on the skin. Therefore, this lotion is particularly suitable for those with dry, sensitive and irritated skin although it can benefit those with all skin types. The lotion has a thick texture but spreads easily on the skin and sinks in within seconds without leaving a white cast. It does not leave any greasy feeling on the skin but still provides intense hydration that lasts for hours and makes my skin feel super soft and smooth.
Since this product is meant for irritated skin, the brand has not added any artificial fragrance in the lotion. It has a mild natural scent that does not linger on the skin post application. The finish that this lotion leaves on the skin is really impressive, it does not feel like you have applied anything on the skin yet the skin feels really supple and hydrated. Also, the product helped to calm down a few rashes I had developed on my arms due to wearing some artificial jewellery, hence it does live up to its claims of relieving irritated skin. Even though this product is specifically targeted towards dry and irritated skin, its non-greasy texture, intense hydration and mild and light-weight formula make it perfect for all skin types. In fact, the brand claims that this product can be used on children and babies as well.
The Dermavive Moisturising Lotion with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal is currently available on Amazon and Flipkart in India and is priced at INR 800 for a 120ml tube that is travel-friendly and comes with a flip lid. The price may seem a little steep but trust me, it is an excellent investment if you suffer from recurring skin issues and most skincare products don’t suit your skin. Overall, I am really enjoying using this product and would highly recommend it to all of you. No matter what your skin type, regular usage of this lotion will definitely improve the texture and look of your skin. So do give it a try and let me know your thoughts about this moisturising lotion.

The Summer Gods are glaring down upon us and my skin keeps begging for something refreshing. Since I adore the Rose Water Face Mist from Greenberry Organics so much, I decided to try out their Fresh Cucumber Mint Toner to keep me cool in the heat. Read on to find out how I feel about this product.
This refreshing toner is a green mist with a refreshing mint scent (which I love but those with a sensitive nose may find a little bothersome). Upon spraying on the face, it has a cooling, tingly, minty sensation on the skin which lasts for at least 15 minutes. This product is an excellent toner that leaves my pores feeling tighter and it has also reduced the greasiness of my skin, thereby making it perfect for those with oily skin who are suffering in the heat and humidity of the Indian summer. Also, my skin has been behaving quite well with hardly any breakouts since I started using this product. While this is definitely a combined result of all the skincare products that I use, the oil controlling properties of this toner have definitely helped in preventing breakouts.
The formula contains a bunch of skin-loving ingredients such as Rose Water, Aloe Vera, Cucumber extracts and Witch Hazel extracts. The bottle is pretty sturdy, leak proof and travel-friendly while the spray comes out in the form of a fine mist that is perfect for the even coverage of the skin. This product claims to be a toner and makeup remover combined in one and while I wouldn’t use it on its own to remove my makeup, it definitely helps in getting rid of the residual makeup left on my skin after cleansing.
To sum it up, this toner is really good for those with open pores and acne-prone, oily skin. It will help to dry out existing breakouts and will control oil production to prevent future breakouts while being extremely cooling on the skin. The product is priced at INR 400 for a 100ml bottle but is usually available on Amazon at around INR 250, which is a great price for the quality and quantity of the toner. A great buy for the summers in my opinion!
Do you ever hit the store to replenish your favorite eyeshadow, glance at the price, and sigh, wishing there was a cheaper way to achieve your favorite look? Or have you ever randomly checked out the ingredient list on your most-used products and wondered what ninety percent of the stuff was, and whether or not it was actually good for your skin? Although the makeup industry is vast, and on average costs us about fifteen grand over the course of a lifetime, commercial makeup products are not the end-all, be-all in terms of beauty – especially if you like to look great, save money, and be kind to your body. Below are a handful of tips and beginner recipes for making your very own products from the stuff in your kitchen. DIY projects are so in right now – so get reading, and then start mixing!
The best organic DIY foundation we found is by far the most intense recipe in this list, so if you can make this one work, you’re good to go! To start with, set up your double boiler, or throw a glass bowl over a pot of water on the stove if you don’t have one. Bring the water to a simmer, making sure the bowl doesn’t actually touch the water, and use your kitchen scale to measure and throw in 1 ½ ounces almond oil, an ounce of shea butter, half an ounce of cocoa butter, half an ounce worth of beeswax chips, and ⅛ teaspoon of vitamin E. Stir this concoction until it is melted, remove from heat and allow to cool, and then whisk in half an ounce of zinc oxide (found at most herbal and organic specialty shops) and ⅛ teaspoon of cinnamon. Finally, to get the color right, start with adding half a tablespoon of cocoa powder, mix, and test it on your skin. Work your way up to the right shade with an additional ½ teaspoon of cocoa at a time, and once it looks just right, allow it to cool completely and store safely in a clean jar.
For this one, you’ll need more almond oil and cocoa powder, cornstarch, activated charcoal powder, and a small jar to store your mixture in once you’ve finished. Combine 1 ½ teaspoons of the almond oil and 2 ½ teaspoons of cocoa powder, and mix well to create your base and identify whether or not the color needs to be darker for your brows. If so, add the charcoal in tiny increments and stir after each until the color is just a shade darker than what you desire. Finally, add one teaspoon of cornstarch to thicken the mixture and bring the color back to the tone you want. You can play with adding more cornstarch or charcoal to even out the color, thickness, and texture. Give it a final few stirs, and store in a tightly-sealed, sanitized jar, applying with a thin brow brush as you would the commercial equivalent.
Blush and Bronzer
DIY blush is even easier, and the bronzer just requires an extra ingredient. Because this recipe is dry, it will obviously keep for much longer than the cream and oil-based recipes you can use, as long as you keep it safe from moisture and humidity. To whip up your own batch, you’ll want to toss together ¼ cup of cornstarch and between one and three teaspoons of hibiscus powder, depending upon how rosy you like your blush to be. You can also replace the cornstarch with arrowroot powder for a softer (but still natural) base that will work harder at absorbing the sweat and oils from your face. Take it a step further and mix in between ½ and a whole teaspoon of ground cinnamon to give the mixture a bronzy look. Again, play combining different amounts of the hibiscus and cinnamon to make the color all your own.
The most important thing to recognize when beginning to create beauty products at home is that, depending on what you use to make them, they will not last as long as the commercial products you’re used to buying. They will also not contain the dyes and preservatives that typically keep bacteria from thriving in your store-bought containers, which is why we need to take extra precautions to ensure that your concoctions will keep well. To do this, we need to eliminate the possibility of contamination by using only sterilized jars when storing any DIY recipes, and applying these products with clean swabs and brushes instead of fingers. You’ll also want to keep all homemade makeup away from light and excess moisture, both of which can promote the growth of unwanted bacteria.
It’s also a great idea to mix up your preferred recipes in small amounts that you’ll use up within a few days. Creating bulk batches of any homemade product leaves too much time for them to harbor bacteria and expire, especially if your recipe is wet or calls for any naturally perishable food items. So when mixing at home, consider the shelf life of the ingredients you’re using, and apply that timeframe to how long you will have to use what you’re making. If you struggle to find the time to do multiple mini batches a week, try adding some natural antioxidants and anti-microbials like Vitamin E and coconut oil to prolong the shelf life of your creations. And ultimately, if something seems off, don’t use it. Your products may separate on their own over time, much like organic nut butters, and can be stirred to restore them to the appropriate texture. But if the smell is off, or you notice discoloration even after mixing, it’s best to toss them and make another batch.

While drinking coffee can make you lose your sleep, applying it under your eyes has the exact opposite effect and it makes them look well rested and puffiness-free. The Vya Naturals Caffeine Eye Cream utilizes the efficacy of this ingredient to fight dark circles, puffiness and other under-eye issues. The brand was kind enough to send me this product to review and here is how it worked for me.
About the Brand: “Vya Naturals products are formulated using natural ingredients that are not only safe and non-toxic but also effective. All formulations are original, created by the brand, and tested on people, not animals. Vya Naturals uses therapeutic- grade essential oils, natural plant-based butters, natural clays and plant-based waxes. And they definitely DO NOT use parabens, sulfates, artificial colors, artificial dyes, mineral oils, formaldehyde, animal ingredients, artificial scents, phthalates, chemicals, fillers, mineral oils, or petroleum. The brand name stands for Vimal (pure) Yajus (reverence) Ayush (healthy life)
Vya is reverence for a pure and healthy life.”
About the Product:“Vya Naturals Caffeine Eye Cream reduces puffiness, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles in the delicate skin around the eye area. It is formulated with caffeine-rich green tea and green coffee extracts that de-puff and reduce swelling while increasing circulation to alleviate and brighten dark circles. Other key ingredients include oils of rosemary, avocado, and rosehip which help in moisturizing the under eye area and delaying the formation of fine lines. To apply, take a small amount using your ring finger and apply under the eye area by gently patting from inside to outside.”
My Experience with the Product: The Vya Naturals Caffeine Eye Cream comes in a beautiful blue bottle with a pump and is extremely travel-friendly. The formula is in the form of a light-weight cream that literally melts into the skin of the under eye area. A little goes a really long way with the product and you need the tiniest drop for both the eyes. The cream does not sting the eyes and does not have a noticeable scent, making it perfect for those with sensitive eyes. Right from the first use, this cream left my skin feeling extremely hydrated and removed that uncomfortable stretchy feeling that comes from getting insufficient sleep. While it is too early to comment on whether it will completely eliminate my dark circles, my under eye area has definitely become brighter than before and the fine lines have also reduced in just a few weeks. I have a strong feeling that with regular usage for a couple of months (twice a day), I will have a very smooth under eye area with hardly any fine lines.
While I am not wise enough to comment on all the ingredients, I do know that caffeine, avocado, and rosehip oil are some of my skin’s favourite ingredients, which is why this product works beautifully for me and I am sure it will work well for you too if you are diligent about using it daily. This product is perfect for those who want some intense hydration for the under eye area without that heavy/sticky feeling that some eye creams leave behind. It works really well under makeup and concealer applies really smoothly on top of it and creases less than usual. This eye cream is priced at INR 750 for a 30ml bottle but Vya Naturals is currently running an offer on Amazon where you can buy it for only INR 599! I think this is a great deal and this would be a great investment for anybody. Your under eye skin is one of the most delicate parts of the body so do try out this product to take care of it.
If nude nail paints are your jam then this post is meant for you! I recently tried out the Sugar Tip Tac Toe Nail Lacquer in the extremely unique shade – Tan About Town (47) and have been going gaga over it. Read on to find out more about this beautiful matte brown shade.
Tan About Town is a gorgeous brown nude for medium to dark Indian skin tones that will not wash you out. It has an autumny vibe to it but I love it for the summer too. What is unique about this shade is that it is completely matte but has some extremely fine shimmer particles embedded throughout the formula (hence the description metallic matte) that add another dimension to the nails, I have never seen this in a matte polish before. The yellow toned brown is a gorgeous shade that would go with almost any outfit for any occasion and is a refreshing change from the usual pinky nudes.
The formula is quite runny, which makes it extremely easy to apply on the nails in a single swipe. The pigmentation is also on point and provides opaque coverage with just one coat. Upon application, the nail paint initially looks glossy but dries down to a perfect matte within a few seconds. It is a quick dry formula which is ideal for when you have to be out of the house within minutes. I also love the wide brush which literally covers the entire nail in one stroke, making this product very easy to use. As for the longevity, the nail polish lasts for a decent 4-5 days if you do not perform heavy duty household chores.
Overall, I am super pleased with this offbeat addition to my nail paint collection and do not regret paying INR 299 for the bottle (you can even make use of the various promotions that Sugar keeps running and get it for way cheaper). A spectacular shade for office wear as well as for night outs, I will highly recommend adding this to your cart.
