Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick – Erin | Review and Swatches

Unless you are living under a rock, you must have heard by now that the Maybelline Gigi Hadid collection has finally launched in India. When I saw the international reviews of this collection, I felt that the range was just a marketing gimmick – old products in new packaging, and decided that I will not give in to the beauty of the blush-colored products. However, when I heard both Shreya Jain and Corallista talk about the Matte Lipstick in the shade Erin, I was sucked in! This lipstick is the classic example of “YouTube made me buy it”. Read on to find out whether I loved or regretted the purchase.

Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick - Erin | Review and Swatches

There is no denying that the packaging of the Gigi Hadid collection is BEAUTiful. The blush pink packaging is classic and feminine without being cheesy or too girly, and the lettering on the packaging, and even the cardboard box that holds the product, is holographic, making the entire process of unboxing and looking at the goodies inside all the more exciting. The actual lipstick is a gorgeous shade of deep mauve, with a very very faint trace of brown in it. This shade is more of a nudish mauve on my pigmented lips and medium skin tone, but on fairer Indian skin tones, it will look slightly bolder- a shade that you can wear when you want to make a statement without going overboard with a bright red or purple. This shade of mauve is quite unique, and will go well with neutral or cool toned makeup and outfits. Perhaps a little too deep for daily wear for some, but definitely a great choice for a day out or even an evening event.

Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick - Erin | Review and Swatches

The formula is one of the better lipstick formulas from Maybelline, it is intensely pigmented, offering opacity in one swipe, and has a creamy matte texture when swatched. On the lips, it gives a pure matte finish, while being comfortable and not drying the lips. It is not completely transfer-proof and will fade a little every time you eat or drink something, but it does fade gracefully and evenly. The pigmentation starts to fade after 3-4 hours of wear but does visibly stay put for around 6-7 hours. Overall, there is not much I can complain about regarding the formula, and I am sure all the matte lipstick lovers will agree.

Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Matte Lipstick - Erin | Review and Swatches

While the other reds and nudes from the Gigi Hadid lipstick collection did not wow me, Erin, a gorgeous mauve, was definitely a good investment. The price point of INR 550 seems reasonable to me too. While I won’t be purchasing anything else from the range at the moment, I have heard good things about the eyeliner as well, and although these products were repackaged versions of existing products in the USA, for India these are new because the original products weren’t ever launched here. If I am to judge the collection based on this one lipstick, I would say that it is worth the money to try out a product or true, especially if you are a makeup enthusiast.

Kadakslap Popcorn – Popcorn that delivers a slap of flavour|Review

I LOVE popcorn – not only while watching movies but also for mid-meal snacking when the hunger pangs strike. However, lazy me does not prefer to pop her own kernels, which is where the delicious popcorns from Kadakslap come into the picture. The brand provides a plethora of flavours that add a slap of deliciousness to your day with their crunchy, light-weight, and healthy popcorn.

Kadakslap Popcorn Review

From the classic Butter and Cheese flavours to the more unique variants such as Sour Cream and Salty Sweet, each flavour of the Kadakslap popcorns offers something new to the palate and provides a healthy alternative to the deep fried and fat-laden snacks such as chips and nachos. Only the best non-GMO kernels from the United States are used by the brand and each packet of popcorn is free of gluten, MSG, artificial colour, and cholesterol, and has a high fibre content too. I also love the colourful, comic book themed packaging of the product which is quite a refreshing change from the standard packaging of snacks in India.

Kadakslap Popcorn Review

Not just the variety of flavours, but also the extremely affordable price of these crunchy, buttery snacks makes a bag of Kadakslap popcorn the best option for those who love to munch while they work or laze about. One packet will cost you between INR 5-20 and will leave your tongue and tummy completely satisfied – like we say in Hindi, these munchies are total Paisa Vasool 🙂 They also have tins of gourmet chocolate and caramel popcorn (INR 100 each) for the connoisseurs of the snack, for whom the regular flavours just won’t do.

Kadakslap Popcorn Review

Overall, the Kadakslap popcorns check all the right boxes for me by being inexpensive, delicious and healthy. They are a must try for every popcorn lover out there and even if you are not the biggest fan of popcorn, try these once and you may actually be converted into one! Meanwhile, if you spot me somewhere with a bag of these munchies, you can drool all you want or can buy your own pack because I am not sharing my Kadakslap popcorn with anyone 😛

My Eye Cream Wish List

Can someone, anyone, please explain to me why eye creams are some of the most expensive skincare products out there, and why are so many excellent eye creams not available in India? I have been using the Mama Earth Eye Cream for several months, it is very nourishing and soothing but I feel that my under eye region is craving for a little bit more. The fine lines are irking me and the dark circles never go away, thanks to the lack of sufficient sleep. However, every eye cream that seems like something that would help with the situation can either not be shipped to India or is insanely expensive 😦 Anyway, here are the eye creams that I have been eyeing, and hope to buy one day when I have all the money in the world to spare.

1. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Treatment

Midnight_Recovery_Eye_3605975086881_0.5fl.oz..jpg

Kathleen Lights says that the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye treatment helps a lot with dark circles, and when Kathleen Lights says something, I trust her blindly. This cream is available in India on Nykaa.com BUT it costs a whopping INR 3200! I guess I will have to save up for this one.

2. Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream

s-l1600.jpg

Kaushal Beauty swears by the Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream and the ingredients do seem promising. This one claims to brighten the under eye area and depuff the much-hated bags, and I wish that this was available in India. The websites that do ship it to India have crazy shipping charges and you will have to shell out anywhere between INR 3000-4000 including shipping. Wish someone got it for me for my birthday!

3.  Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream

81pcSUkDD3L._SL1500_.jpg

The Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Cream has been featured in various “top eye cream” lists over the years and this one claims to work on both fine lines and dark circles. It is priced at INR 2,200 on Amazon for a tiny 14ml tube, but I am not sure whether the product is the original one because the reviews on Amazon India are not that great.

So these are the eye creams I have been lusting over at the moment. If you know of a relatively inexpensive eye cream available in India that works on fine lines and dark circles then please let me know in the comments below. In the meantime, I will start saving up for at least one of these!

Max Factor Brow Shaper | Review

Guest post by Huda Pervez from MakeupManiac

Hello everybody!

Today, I will be reviewing the Max Factor Brow Shaper. Personally, my favorite way of filling in my brows is with a brow pencil and I have tried quite a few, including NYX, Benefit, and Anastasia. Hence, I was pretty excited to put this product to the test and see it if matched up to some of my favorite brow pencils!  If you want to know my thoughts on this product, then keep on reading!

Max Factor Brow Shaper | Review

This brow pencil has two sides, like many other brow pencils, with one side being the actual pencil and the other side having a spoolie. The brow pencil itself is pretty thin and I was really impressed with that. I also like the fact that that you have to twist to get the pencil out instead of sharpening because I feel that sharpening wastes so much product.

Max Factor Brow Shaper | Review

The shade I got is ‘Deep Brown’ and this is the perfect shade for me. They only have 3 total shades in this brow pencil, which is a major downside.

Max Factor Brow Shaper | Review

On application, the consistency of this was a little waxy, which I liked. It was easy to build up and wasn’t too dark or harsh on the brows. Since the pencil is so thin, it really helped me be more precise and get in all the little spaces in my brows. With this pencil, I have so much control over how I want my brows to look as I could leave them looking natural or go all out by building the product up. I always like to go through my brows with a spoolie when I’m done, to blend out any harsh lines, and the small size of the spoolie helped me achieve that!

Overall, I am very impressed with this brow pencil, taking into consideration the fact that it’s only for $9.80 and works just as good as many of the drugstore and even high-end brow pencils.

What is your favorite brow pencil brand? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you for reading! xx

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – Zurich and Abu Dhabi | Review and Swatches

I know, I know, I am too late to the party. In fact, the bandwagon has left without me, but I FINALLY bought myself not one but two NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, and even though there are already a ton of reviews of this product on the web, I thought that maybe some of you will care for my two cents? I have become a huge fan of nude lips lately, so I went for two nude shades, Zurich and Abu Dhabi, which look very similar when you see the packaging but are actually quite different when applied to the lips.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams - Zurich and Abu Dhabi | Review and Swatches

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are cult products that almost every beauty blogger raves about. They have a matte but comfortable formula, a slightly moussier texture than a liquid lipstick but similar pigmentation and longevity. If you are a matte lipstick lover like me then they are the perfect alternative to a super dehydrating matte lip colour for the winter months. They glide on like a dream, provide an opaque colour in one swipe, set within a few minutes, and stay more or less in place for up to 5 hours. It is no wonder that this lip cream formula has been a favourite of all makeup lovers over the years.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams - Zurich and Abu Dhabi | Review and Swatches

Coming to the negatives of this product, the formula does tend to cling to any dry patches on the lips, so an exfoliator is a must if you have chapped lips. Also, it is not completely transfer-proof and the colour does fade a little each time you eat something. However, they do fade quite gracefully, without becoming patchy or streaky, and leave an even wash of colour on the lips. Also, they have the strong scent of candies which you may not like if you are sensitive to fragrances but I do not mind it because it fades within some time.

Zurich

Abu Dhabi

The shade Zurich is a pinky nude which is deep enough to suit most Indian skin tones and is a nice everyday colour. Abu Dhabi, on the other hand is a paler, peachy nude with brown undertones. It is a true nude for my skin tone and may wash out deeper skin tones. I personally enjoy it with darker eye makeup or on no-makeup days.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams - Zurich and Abu Dhabi | Review and Swatches

Overall, I do enjoy the formula and colour of these lip creams and love that they are matte but not dehydrating. The price of INR 600 seems a little steep considering that there are dupes from Miss Claire and other brands available at less than half the price but I have personally not tried those yet. The shade range is also amazing and I am sure everyone will find a colour of their choice. So if you are looking for a comfortable matte formula for your dry lips this winter then the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams might be worth a shot.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balms | Review

I do love all my liquid lipsticks but what my lips crave for during the cold weather is a nice nourishing lip balm. I had been seeing rave reviews of the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balms online so decided to try these out, and believe me, my lips have been thanking me ever since.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lip Balms | Review

I bought the Original formula and the Dark Chocolate and Cherry Tinted formula. Both of these smell heavenly, like desserts, and are extremely nourishing too. I do not like the thick lip balms that form a coating on the lips but these are nothing like that and actually melt into the skin of the lips. They just create a nice glossy coat of oil on the lips that keeps the lips hydrated for a good 3-4 hours. I tend to get dry patches on my lips during winters and these lip balms resolved the problem within 2-3 days of use. I also love the fact that these lip balms contain SPF 15 as well. The only complaint I have with the product is that the tinted lip balm is not pigmented enough and will barely show up on your lips unless they are extremely pale, just look at the swatch below for reference. Other than that, I love everything about these lip balms and they have become my favourite lip balms of all time.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lip Balms | Review

These lip balms are available for INR 130 only and are suitable for even those on a tight budget. In fact, now I am tempted to try out the body lotions and other products from Palmer’s as well. If you haven’t tried these lip balms yet and your lips are suffering in the harsh weather then do try these out now, I am sure you will love them 🙂

Sugar Contour de Force Bronzer – Woody Wonder | Review and Swatches

So Sugar Cosmetics recently came out with a range of bronzers, blushes, and highlighters and had all the Indian beauty bloggers going gaga over them. Sugar is a brand that has always impressed me, so I got my hands on the Contour De Force Bronzer in the shade Woody Wonder and joined the fan club. Here are my thoughts on this product.

Sugar Contour de Force Bronzer - Woody Wonder | Review and Swatches

First of all, the packaging deserves a special shout out! It is cardboard with a magnetic closure but the beautiful lass on the lid will give you makeup goals, super chic I must say. The product in itself is a buttery smooth formula that glides on the skin and blends beautifully to create a natural shadow on the face. The colour is a warm brown that will suit fair to medium Indian skin tones, it may be a little light for darker complexions. I like the warm tones of the bronzer which give a natural bronzed look to the face without looking orange. I also like the fact that this bronzer does not contain any shimmer, so it is perfect for both contouring as well as for bronzing the face for a sunkissed look.

Sugar Contour de Force Bronzer - Woody Wonder | Review and Swatches

The pigmentation is not too over the top, which I actually prefer because I do not like harsh contour lines left behind by hard to blend and overly pigmented bronzers. This one can be brushed gently along the jawline for a natural finish and can also be built up for a stronger contour. It does not look cakey, muddy, or ashy on the skin and provides the right amount of colour to give a chiselled look to the face. Also, although the single bronzers are marketed as minis, the pan size is quite good and I’m sure that the product will last me at least a few months.

Sugar Contour de Force Bronzer - Woody Wonder | Review and Swatches

I’m not sure if this picture actually does justice to the product but I hope that you can see the definition it provides to my cheeks. I will definitely recommend this bronzer to beginners as well as to those who like to sport a light contour on a daily basis. With sufficient building up, it is suitable for an evening out as well. Also, at the price of INR 399, you can’t really go wrong with this product, so add this cute little bronzer to your cart today!

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution | Review

Acid peels do sound scary, but let me tell you, once you get hooked on acid exfoliation and see the results, you will be addicted for life! I started dabbling with mild acid peels and acid toners in 2017 and wanted to amp up my game in the new year, The Ordinary AHA+BHA Peeling Solution seemed like the best man for the job. This chemical peel has 30% AHA and 2% BHA that make it a pretty potent exfoliator, just what my skin needs at the moment.

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

Although the formula sounds a bit intimidating, I wasn’t very afraid of using the product because The Ordinary is one of the most trusted skincare brands in the world. Also, the colour of the formula is a deep beetroot red, but look beyond the scary shade and your skin will thank you later. The product comes in the form of a semi-viscous liquid which is meant to be used as a face mask for no longer than 10 minutes. Within these ten minutes, it provides deep exfoliation and leaves the skin looking glowy and smooth. While I have a bunch of products in my skincare stash that provide instant brightening, this one stands out because it also improves the texture of my skin, and managed to reduce the tiny bumps that I tend to get on my chin and nose with just one use. It makes my skin look more youthful, healthy, and well rested, something that every woman on the wrong side of 25 needs in her life 😛

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

I also love the apothecary style bottle that comes with a dropper that makes the product so easy to use. It makes me feel as if I am running a quirky science experiment on my own skin, which is kind of fun. A few words of caution though – if you are someone who has never tried acid exfoliation till date then this is probably not the best product to begin with because it is too strong. You may want to try out a milder acid based product first. Secondly, ALWAYS do a patch test on your elbow before you put something new on your face, especially if it is such a strong formula. Thirdly, acid exfoliation leaves the skin way more sensitive to the sun than usual, therefore, using a strong sunscreen every day is an absolute must once you start using acid based products. Lastly, I wouldn’t recommend this product to those with sensitive skin, because although it does not burn or irritate the skin, it does tingle a little bit. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, it is best to use this product only once or twice a month.

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

While this product is one I would definitely recommend, The Ordinary products are not so easy to get your hands on in India and their website charges insane amounts for shipping. I got mine from an Instagram store called imported_makeup that sells original products and I got the bottle for INR 1200, which seems like a good price for the product. So if you are in the mood for brighter, clearer, smoother skin this year then do give this baby a shot!

Some Do’s and Dont’s for the Bride To Be

The Great Indian Wedding can take a toll on even the attendees, so one can only imagine how flustered it leaves the bride at times. I often receive DM’s on Instagram from brides to be, asking about beauty rituals to follow, skincare tips, hair care rituals, and what not. Which is why I decided to create a list of Do’s and Dont’s for the bride to be, particularly an Indian bride, so that she can be better prepared for the big day.

Dont’s-

1. Don’t use any new skincare/haircare product in the month leading up to the wedding. Whether it is a hair color or a chemical peel, perform patch tests and then start using the product at least 3 months prior to the wedding. This will ensure that you do not suffer from a horrible reaction or end up with a hair color that does not suit you at all on the night before the wedding.

2. Don’t let your makeup artist make you 3 shades fairer than you are. I have heard of horror tales where makeup artists bully the poor bride into wearing a foundation that is way too light for her or an eyeshadow that is too gaudy. How you look on your wedding day is something you will cherish forever, so make sure to go for a makeup artist who has good reviews and who is also accommodating of your own tastes. Remember, nobody looks beautiful just by painting extremely light foundation on their face.

3. Don’t choose stilettoes as your bridal footwear. While heels add a certain amount of grace to a wedding lehenga, stilettoes come with the risk of making you stumble and hurting your feet. Opt for comfortable wedges instead and try them on for a few hours beforehand so that you know for sure that they fit snugly on your feet.

Do’s –

1. Book a makeup trial with your MUA. It may cost you, but nothing is more expensive than looking like a nightmare on your own wedding day. A makeup trial is the only way to know for sure that your makeup artist is able to accommodate your choices, complement your natural beauty, and give you a look that goes well with your outfit and theme of the wedding. There are some MUAs out there who think bridal makeup only means a dark lip and smokey eyes, avoid them like a plague.

2. Try out all your wedding outfits a week prior to the wedding. You may have purchased your wedding outfits over a span of months and some of them may even be heirlooms. Try out each and every outfit a week or two prior to the wedding, just to make sure that they still fit well and that there are no broken zippers. You may have put on or lost a little weight in the lineup to the wedding, so this will give you some room for alterations and will prevent last-minute panic.

3. Feed yourself! Don’t get obsessed with losing 5 kgs in the week before the wedding. A flat belly is not more important than your health. Eat fruits and vegetables in good quantities and avoid dehydrating food items such as caffeine and salty snacks. Nobody would want the bride to faint on the stage, would they?

So these were some do’s and dont’s for the bride to be based on my experience. Let me know if you would want me to start a bridal series with this kind of content to answer the queries of the beautiful brides to be.

Schwarzkopf Spa Essence Hydrating Cream Masque | Review

The struggle to keep my hair tame yet voluminous is genuinely real, and the product I am going to talk about today is helping me achieve this goal these days. The Schwarzkopf Spa Essence Hydrating Cream Masque is supposedly what they use in salons when you go for a hair spa, but it was available on Amazon, so I picked it up to use it as a regular hair mask. As per the instructions, you are supposed to apply this along with a serum on shampooed hair and then steam the hair, but I use it like a standard hair mask i.e. I leave it on for around 15 minutes after using a shampoo and then rinse it off.

Schwarzkopf Spa Essence Hydrating Cream Masque

The ingredient list of this product seems to be full of chemicals, but this hair mask does work really well, and I am definitely a fan. It claims to nourish and hydrate the hair while preserving its natural bounce and that is exactly what it does. Post using this product, the ends of my hair look SO much healthier and all the unruly frizz that they tend to possess completely vanishes! Also, the effect of this hair mask lasts for days, which makes it perfect for those with frizzy hair who want to have a low maintenance haircare routine. Also, it has a mild and pleasant fragrance that should not irritate most people.

Schwarzkopf Spa Essence Hydrating Cream Masque

This product is priced at INR 580 for a giant 500 ml tub, which is extremely affordable in my opinion. The hair mask will suit most people, except for those with very greasy or weighed down hair. It does have a bunch of chemicals but if nothing else is working for your frizzy hair then this product is worth trying out. Also, if you can recreate the whole spa routine at home then you will probably see even better results. I personally love it because it actually adds volume to my hair while hydrating them and that is extremely rare for hair masks. Two big thumbs up from me, especially during the cold winter that we are experiencing at the moment!

Bahala Handmade Soaps | Review

If you have been following this blog for some time, you might know that I am not the hugest fan of solid soaps and prefer body washes instead. I never purchase soap bars for myself, but when I received the Bahala Handmade Soaps in a giveaway hamper from HoneyPot, their fragrance was so alluring that I HAD TO start using them asap! So here are my thoughts on these lovely handmade soaps.

Bahala Handmade Soaps | Review

I received two soaps from the range, the Coffe n Oatmeal soap and the Orange n Lemongrass soap. The former smells exactly like cookies and cream while the latter has the sweet and zesty scent of orange. When you put one of these soap bars in your bathroom, trust me you won’t need a room freshener, that’s how beautiful their scents are, without any fake perfumy notes. Also, these soap bars are nor weirdly shaped or sticky like many of the handmade soaps out there, which is why using them is not a messy affair at all.

Bahala Handmade Soaps | Review

I have used the Coffee n Oatmeal soap quite a lot and it is extremely hydrating and gentle on the skin aka perfect for winters. Coffee has anti-oxidising properties while oatmeal is famous as a nourishing skin food that heals and repairs dry and damaged skin. It froths easily but is not overly drying on the skin, my body feels well-moisturised after using the soap and the calming oatmeal scent lingers on for hours. I haven’t used the Orange n Lemongrass soap much yet but its ingredients are perfect to prevent oiliness and infections, something that will definitely help those with acne-prone skin. I think I will get more use from this in the warmer months because its sweet orange scent and astringent properties are ideal for summer.

Bahala Handmade Soaps | Review

Each of these soap bars is priced at INR 125 but I think that the price is appropriate for how good they are. They have natural ingredients and have improved the texture of my skin more than any body wash ever has. Perhaps this brand has converted me into a soap bar lover! So, if you are looking for a fragrant and nourishing bath experience then do give Bahala soaps a try!

HoneyPot Intimate Wash for Women | Review

Women all around the world are still quite uncomfortable speaking about various issues such as PMS, infections in feminine parts, as well as odor, which is why there is still a lack of general awareness regarding female hygiene. Our delicate areas require special attention to keep them clean, dry, and infection-free, especially during our monthly cycle. HoneyPot Intimate Wash is one such product that can help you in taking care of the most sensitive part of your body.

HoneyPot Intimate Wash for Women | Review

The low pH of this intimate wash makes it more suitable than regular soap for the feminine regions. The formula is extremely gentle and also contains seabuckthorn and tea tree oil to keep the skin clean and fresh. The wash has a pleasant fragrance that will help to curb any odor and it is mild enough to not cause any sort of irritation on the sensitive skin.

HoneyPot Intimate Wash for Women | Review

Priced at INR 162 for a 100ml bottle, this affordable intimate wash is a must-have for every woman. The flip lid and sturdy packaging make it travel-friendly so that you can carry this wherever your work or adventures take you. When we pay so much attention to our skincare routines then sparing a couple of minutes for our intimate regions is something we all can and should do. I will highly recommend trying out this product to keep all the itchiness and irritation at bay.
