How To Clean Your Tarnished Artificial Jewellery At Home!

I usually tend to throw away my tarnished artificial jewelry because cleaning it is too much effort for the price of the actual item, however, this choker necklace I purchased from tarnished so quickly and was so perfect for my style that I decided to give some DIY tips a shot.

How To Clean Your Tarnished Artificial Jewellery At Home!

So I used a trick I found on YouTube which is so simple yet so effective! I took a bit of toothpaste (I used Glister toothpaste from Amway but I think you can use any white toothpaste) and rubbed it vigorously throughout the length of the necklace – you can use a brush or your fingers for this step. Then I rinsed the necklace with plain water and patted it try. Although the polish of the necklace is still not as bright as it was when it was brand new, most of the dark discoloration has vanished and I can definitely use this necklace again.

Nykaa Salon Pro Gel Shine Nail Lacquer – 206 Miami Vibes | Review and Swatches

I recently tried a new shade from the Nykaa Salon Pro Gel Shine Nail Lacquer range and loved it as much as the shade I reviewed previously. Click here to check out my previous post for a detailed review of the formula but it is basically super shiny and does not chip on me for around a week! The shade I have swatched today is 206 – Miami Vibes, a slightly muted fuchsia which is a great colour for Indian skin tones.

Won’t say much more in this post because the colour and shine of the nail paint speak for themselves. I highly recommend this nail paint range and everybody needs to try out at least one shade from the collection.

The Coming Of Age Of A Beauty Blogger

I started this blog almost a year ago but my love for makeup goes way beyond that. I was the kid who secretly retouched her lipstick after a school performance was over and the bride who silently missed her falsies once the wedding festivities gave way to the daily grind. Between the two phases, I was the teenager with blemished skin, whose peers were as prejudiced as you would expect kids that age to be at recognising the beauty that lies beneath the temporary curtain of pimples. This is how I was introduced to the world of foundations and concealers when I started attending college.

For the longest time, I believed that most skincare products were either ineffective or way beyond my budget. This skewed perception was perhaps caused by poor experiences with certain anti-acne drugstore products as a young kid who didn’t know her salicylic acid from her benzoyl peroxide, and also by the impatience I developed over the years that caused me to reject a lot of products if they didn’t show visible results within a week or so.

When I started blogging, it was primarily to share what I had learnt about makeup and skincare over the years with whoever cared to listen, but in the process, I also stumbled upon great bloggers who offered amazing product recommendations and some lesser known skincare brands who were just starting out but their products were way more effective than the big names in the industry. Thus began a tryst with skincare that made me fall in love with the lotions and potions, the exfoliating acids and soothing gels that actually started to improve the texture of my skin with time. After around 6 months or so, I reached a point where I was completely comfortable stepping out of the house sans makeup, a first for me in my adult life.

It was not just the efficacy of these new skincare products that I discovered but also the newfound patience that came with age, and the fact that I actually starting enjoying my 5 step skincare routine that enabled me to step out of the house without a drop of foundation on my face. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my makeup, but it is now more of a choice and a creative outlet than a daily chore or a self-imposed obligation.

I am extremely grateful for the messages I receive on Instagram asking for product recommendations. Some of these kind followers are brides to be while others are those in their late 20’s who are looking for ways to fight those fine lines. Most of the inquiries that I get are for skincare products, not for that perfect lipstick shade or the best foundation. This means that at the end of the day, almost everybody wants to enhance and celebrate their natural beauty. Makeup does add a special touch for certain occasions by providing a hint of sparkle and a dash of colour but will never look as good if you do not take care of your skin. This is the biggest lesson I have learnt in my one year as a beauty blogger and this is the message that I wish to propagate among all the girls who are struggling to meet the so-called “standards of beauty”.

At the end of the day, I know that I may never get rid of those dark circles completely or may never have perfectly flawless skin, but what the lovely women of substance I follow on WordPress and Instagram have taught me is that I am still beautiful, with or without makeup, and so are you!

Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar Cleansing Water | Review

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that the Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar Cleansing Water is now available in India, with the bubbly Alia Bhatt swiping off a full face of makeup with a single cotton pad in the television adverts. What this means is that the years of hunting for Instagram sellers that stock this product, begging your NRI friends to lug it back for you each Diwali, and of hoping that the guys at Customs go easy on you when you purchase it from an Internation website are finally over. Also, priced at INR 349 for a huge 400ml bottle, this product comes as a relief for all those who have been splurging on the expensive but tiny Bioderma bottles. Now I am someone who found her perfect makeup remover in Bioderma, particularly because it does not sting my sensitive eyes at all, therefore I was a little wary of trying out something new, but the excellent price point got to me. So here are my thoughts on how this product fares.

Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar Cleansing Water | Review

This micellar water looks exactly like clear water, similar to Bioderma, and lucky for me, it is extremely gentle on the skin and the eyes. It does not sting my eyes at all while removing my mascara. I feel that in the makeup removal department, it is a tiny bit behind Bioderma, as I have to work a little bit more with this product to get rid of all my makeup. Also, Bioderma works way better on waterproof mascara and liquid lipsticks than this variant, so you may want to pick the Argan Oil variant of this product if you wear waterproof makeup on a regular basis. However, for your standard foundations and kajals, as well as for non-waterproof lipsticks and mascaras, it does a pretty good job, with only slightly more gentle rubbing needed than with Bioderma.

Overall, I would say that this product or its argan oil cousin can be an affordable alternative for Bioderma but make sure to choose the right variant based on your skin type and the kind of makeup you use. Also, although most micellar waters claim that they don’t need to be washed off, I would still recommend using a cleanser after going in with a cotton pad soaked in the product. Trust me, you can never clean your skin enough, but this is definitely a great first step to achieving clear skin!

Meal Of The Moment (M.O.M) Ready To Eat Meals | Review

There is a new Mom in town! And while this Mom can’t replace my doting mum back home, she definitely keeps me well fed while I am busy adulting, with no time respond to my tummy’s rumblings. This Mom is none other than the set of ready to eat meals from Meal Of The Moment – traditional Indian meals that you just need to add boiling water to before consuming. Their range of preservative-free and home-like meals include breakfast, lunch, and dessert items and the best part is that they do taste quite similar to a home-cooked meal.

Meal Of The Moment (M.O.M) Ready To Eat Meals | Review

The brand kindly sent me four of their meals to try – their Poha, Veg Biryani, Seviyan Kheer, and Kesari Halwa. I found all the meals extremely flavourful and yummy, although the Veg Biryani was a tiny bit salty for me. What I also love is the fact that the desserts come with a separate packet of sugar so that you can add as much or as little as you like. It is quite rare for a ready to eat meals brand to pay so much attention to the nutrition and health aspects of their products, most brands just roll with their ingredient list and do not care that their customers can’t control how much sugar to put in their food.

The USP of these meals is that while you can prepare them in a jiffy by simply adding boiling water or popping them in the microwave, they are way more healthy than most alternatives for instant meals available in the Indian market at the moment. Not only are these meals better than the bag of chips or box of cookies that you may reach for while stress eating, they are also more nutritious than the various brands of instant noodles and nutrition bars that are loaded with preservatives and other unhealthy ingredients.

Overall, each of these boxes of goodness will strike a chord in the hearts of everyone who is staying away from home and missing home-cooked meals that have a personal touch to them. They are also excellent for the busy moms and wives who need a break from cooking once in a while. As an added bonus, they are very affordable too, and one serving costs around INR 40 – 60. So the next time you want the comfort of mom’s food but cannot fly back to her, try out the next best thing – Meal of the Moment (MOM).

Meal of the Moment is currently available on Amazon, Big Basket, and Star Bazaar and is also available above the clouds, in top airlines such as Indigo and Go Air. Click here to buy Meal of the Moment from Amazon.

Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser | Review

Ask any Indian grandma how to cope with dry skin in the winter months and she will lovingly direct you towards a bowl of honey. Honey helps in retaining the skin’s moisture in the cold weather and adds a bounciness and youthfulness to the skin, which is exactly what the Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser is also able to do. This extremely gentle face wash is a boon for those who suffer from dry, irritated, chapped, or sensitive skin and here is why I say so.

Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser | Review

The proof of the pudding is in its ingredients and this face wash has coconut extracts, raw honey, geranium oil, and rosewood essential oil as its key ingredients. These ingredients make sure that while the cleanser removes dirt from the pores, the skin does not lose its natural oils and suppleness. The formula is in the form of a honey colored gel that does not froth a lot and feels very mild on the skin. This lack of excessive froth makes sure that the product is not dehydrating at all.

Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser | Review

This gentle formula is suitable for those who have been struggling with sensitive skin that reacts to harsh chemicals in face washes. I also love its sweet, refreshing scent that is very relaxing.

Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser | Review

The product comes in a bottle with a pump that makes it so convenient to use. The price of INR 387 for a 100ml bottle is a little steep but if you have never found the perfect product for dry and sensitive skin then your search will definitely end with this product. A must buy for the cold weather in my opinion!

Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask | Review

Scrubs can be quite tricky during the winters because the skin is already dry but that doesn’t mean that you let the dead skin sit on your face until the days get warmer. The Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask is the perfect solution to this dilemma because it combines the exfoliating properties of coffee with the nourishing goodness of honey. The brand recently sent me the product to review and here is what I think of it after a few uses.

Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask | Review

First of all, I love the name of this product and its super cute packaging which is basically a black plastic tub with a spillproof lid. The whiff of pure coffee will greet you as soon as you unscrew the lid, a perfect aroma to wake you up in the mornings and to relax you at night. The scrub has a semi-thick, semi-liquid consistency with gritty coffee particles embedded in the formula. These particles act as strong exfoliators so I wouldn’t recommend using this scrub every day, it is more suitable for using once or twice a week.

Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask | Review

I usually apply a layer of the product all over my face and let it dry like a mask, this typically takes around 5 minutes, then I wet my face a little and rub the product in a circular motion so that the scrub particles can work their magic. After I wash my face, my skin feels much softer to the touch and visibly brighter, my face feels smooth and non-greasy, but not dry.

The ingredient list explains why this scrub works so well. The ground coffee helps to smoothen and brighten the skin while the wild bee honey, aloe vera extracts, and shea butter make sure that the skin does not feel parched after using the product. Also, the Kaolin Clay helps to suck out all the grime and grease. The presence of so many fresh ingredients makes this scrub a winner for me.

Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask | Review

Overall, this is an excellent all in one product because it brightens, scrubs, AND nourishes the skin. The price of INR 499 for a 125gm tub seems pretty reasonable too. The exfoliating particles are a little rough so this may not suit extremely sensitive or dry skin but it should suit all other skin types. This scrub will give you happy skin days all throughout winter and beyond, so do check it out asap!
