I usually tend to throw away my tarnished artificial jewelry because cleaning it is too much effort for the price of the actual item, however, this choker necklace I purchased from Shein.com tarnished so quickly and was so perfect for my style that I decided to give some DIY tips a shot.
So I used a trick I found on YouTube which is so simple yet so effective! I took a bit of toothpaste (I used Glister toothpaste from Amway but I think you can use any white toothpaste) and rubbed it vigorously throughout the length of the necklace – you can use a brush or your fingers for this step. Then I rinsed the necklace with plain water and patted it try. Although the polish of the necklace is still not as bright as it was when it was brand new, most of the dark discoloration has vanished and I can definitely use this necklace again.
So here is the final result-
I’m not sure if the picture does justice to the final outcome but most of the dullness and dark deposit is completely gone! So if you have some tarnished jewelry in your stash that you are not willing to part with, do give it a good rub with some good old toothpaste!
Won’t say much more in this post because the colour and shine of the nail paint speak for themselves. I highly recommend this nail paint range and everybody needs to try out at least one shade from the collection.
I started this blog almost a year ago but my love for makeup goes way beyond that. I was the kid who secretly retouched her lipstick after a school performance was over and the bride who silently missed her falsies once the wedding festivities gave way to the daily grind. Between the two phases, I was the teenager with blemished skin, whose peers were as prejudiced as you would expect kids that age to be at recognising the beauty that lies beneath the temporary curtain of pimples. This is how I was introduced to the world of foundations and concealers when I started attending college.
For the longest time, I believed that most skincare products were either ineffective or way beyond my budget. This skewed perception was perhaps caused by poor experiences with certain anti-acne drugstore products as a young kid who didn’t know her salicylic acid from her benzoyl peroxide, and also by the impatience I developed over the years that caused me to reject a lot of products if they didn’t show visible results within a week or so.
When I started blogging, it was primarily to share what I had learnt about makeup and skincare over the years with whoever cared to listen, but in the process, I also stumbled upon great bloggers who offered amazing product recommendations and some lesser known skincare brands who were just starting out but their products were way more effective than the big names in the industry. Thus began a tryst with skincare that made me fall in love with the lotions and potions, the exfoliating acids and soothing gels that actually started to improve the texture of my skin with time. After around 6 months or so, I reached a point where I was completely comfortable stepping out of the house sans makeup, a first for me in my adult life.
It was not just the efficacy of these new skincare products that I discovered but also the newfound patience that came with age, and the fact that I actually starting enjoying my 5 step skincare routine that enabled me to step out of the house without a drop of foundation on my face. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my makeup, but it is now more of a choice and a creative outlet than a daily chore or a self-imposed obligation.
I am extremely grateful for the messages I receive on Instagram asking for product recommendations. Some of these kind followers are brides to be while others are those in their late 20’s who are looking for ways to fight those fine lines. Most of the inquiries that I get are for skincare products, not for that perfect lipstick shade or the best foundation. This means that at the end of the day, almost everybody wants to enhance and celebrate their natural beauty. Makeup does add a special touch for certain occasions by providing a hint of sparkle and a dash of colour but will never look as good if you do not take care of your skin. This is the biggest lesson I have learnt in my one year as a beauty blogger and this is the message that I wish to propagate among all the girls who are struggling to meet the so-called “standards of beauty”.
At the end of the day, I know that I may never get rid of those dark circles completely or may never have perfectly flawless skin, but what the lovely women of substance I follow on WordPress and Instagram have taught me is that I am still beautiful, with or without makeup, and so are you!
Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that the Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar Cleansing Water is now available in India, with the bubbly Alia Bhatt swiping off a full face of makeup with a single cotton pad in the television adverts. What this means is that the years of hunting for Instagram sellers that stock this product, begging your NRI friends to lug it back for you each Diwali, and of hoping that the guys at Customs go easy on you when you purchase it from an Internation website are finally over. Also, priced at INR 349 for a huge 400ml bottle, this product comes as a relief for all those who have been splurging on the expensive but tiny Bioderma bottles. Now I am someone who found her perfect makeup remover in Bioderma, particularly because it does not sting my sensitive eyes at all, therefore I was a little wary of trying out something new, but the excellent price point got to me. So here are my thoughts on how this product fares.
This micellar water looks exactly like clear water, similar to Bioderma, and lucky for me, it is extremely gentle on the skin and the eyes. It does not sting my eyes at all while removing my mascara. I feel that in the makeup removal department, it is a tiny bit behind Bioderma, as I have to work a little bit more with this product to get rid of all my makeup. Also, Bioderma works way better on waterproof mascara and liquid lipsticks than this variant, so you may want to pick the Argan Oil variant of this product if you wear waterproof makeup on a regular basis. However, for your standard foundations and kajals, as well as for non-waterproof lipsticks and mascaras, it does a pretty good job, with only slightly more gentle rubbing needed than with Bioderma.
Overall, I would say that this product or its argan oil cousin can be an affordable alternative for Bioderma but make sure to choose the right variant based on your skin type and the kind of makeup you use. Also, although most micellar waters claim that they don’t need to be washed off, I would still recommend using a cleanser after going in with a cotton pad soaked in the product. Trust me, you can never clean your skin enough, but this is definitely a great first step to achieving clear skin!
There is a new Mom in town! And while this Mom can’t replace my doting mum back home, she definitely keeps me well fed while I am busy adulting, with no time respond to my tummy’s rumblings. This Mom is none other than the set of ready to eat meals from Meal Of The Moment – traditional Indian meals that you just need to add boiling water to before consuming. Their range of preservative-free and home-like meals include breakfast, lunch, and dessert items and the best part is that they do taste quite similar to a home-cooked meal.
The brand kindly sent me four of their meals to try – their Poha, Veg Biryani, Seviyan Kheer, and Kesari Halwa. I found all the meals extremely flavourful and yummy, although the Veg Biryani was a tiny bit salty for me. What I also love is the fact that the desserts come with a separate packet of sugar so that you can add as much or as little as you like. It is quite rare for a ready to eat meals brand to pay so much attention to the nutrition and health aspects of their products, most brands just roll with their ingredient list and do not care that their customers can’t control how much sugar to put in their food.
The USP of these meals is that while you can prepare them in a jiffy by simply adding boiling water or popping them in the microwave, they are way more healthy than most alternatives for instant meals available in the Indian market at the moment. Not only are these meals better than the bag of chips or box of cookies that you may reach for while stress eating, they are also more nutritious than the various brands of instant noodles and nutrition bars that are loaded with preservatives and other unhealthy ingredients.
Overall, each of these boxes of goodness will strike a chord in the hearts of everyone who is staying away from home and missing home-cooked meals that have a personal touch to them. They are also excellent for the busy moms and wives who need a break from cooking once in a while. As an added bonus, they are very affordable too, and one serving costs around INR 40 – 60. So the next time you want the comfort of mom’s food but cannot fly back to her, try out the next best thing – Meal of the Moment (MOM).
Ask any Indian grandma how to cope with dry skin in the winter months and she will lovingly direct you towards a bowl of honey. Honey helps in retaining the skin’s moisture in the cold weather and adds a bounciness and youthfulness to the skin, which is exactly what the Seer Secrets Honey & Geranium Pore Refining Multi Cleanser is also able to do. This extremely gentle face wash is a boon for those who suffer from dry, irritated, chapped, or sensitive skin and here is why I say so.
The proof of the pudding is in its ingredients and this face wash has coconut extracts, raw honey, geranium oil, and rosewood essential oil as its key ingredients. These ingredients make sure that while the cleanser removes dirt from the pores, the skin does not lose its natural oils and suppleness. The formula is in the form of a honey colored gel that does not froth a lot and feels very mild on the skin. This lack of excessive froth makes sure that the product is not dehydrating at all.
This gentle formula is suitable for those who have been struggling with sensitive skin that reacts to harsh chemicals in face washes. I also love its sweet, refreshing scent that is very relaxing.
The product comes in a bottle with a pump that makes it so convenient to use. The price of INR 387 for a 100ml bottle is a little steep but if you have never found the perfect product for dry and sensitive skin then your search will definitely end with this product. A must buy for the cold weather in my opinion!
Scrubs can be quite tricky during the winters because the skin is already dry but that doesn’t mean that you let the dead skin sit on your face until the days get warmer. The Ryaal Mr. Beans Deep Cleansing & Illuminating Scrub Mask is the perfect solution to this dilemma because it combines the exfoliating properties of coffee with the nourishing goodness of honey. The brand recently sent me the product to review and here is what I think of it after a few uses.
First of all, I love the name of this product and its super cute packaging which is basically a black plastic tub with a spillproof lid. The whiff of pure coffee will greet you as soon as you unscrew the lid, a perfect aroma to wake you up in the mornings and to relax you at night. The scrub has a semi-thick, semi-liquid consistency with gritty coffee particles embedded in the formula. These particles act as strong exfoliators so I wouldn’t recommend using this scrub every day, it is more suitable for using once or twice a week.
I usually apply a layer of the product all over my face and let it dry like a mask, this typically takes around 5 minutes, then I wet my face a little and rub the product in a circular motion so that the scrub particles can work their magic. After I wash my face, my skin feels much softer to the touch and visibly brighter, my face feels smooth and non-greasy, but not dry.
The ingredient list explains why this scrub works so well. The ground coffee helps to smoothen and brighten the skin while the wild bee honey, aloe vera extracts, and shea butter make sure that the skin does not feel parched after using the product. Also, the Kaolin Clay helps to suck out all the grime and grease. The presence of so many fresh ingredients makes this scrub a winner for me.
Overall, this is an excellent all in one product because it brightens, scrubs, AND nourishes the skin. The price of INR 499 for a 125gm tub seems pretty reasonable too. The exfoliating particles are a little rough so this may not suit extremely sensitive or dry skin but it should suit all other skin types. This scrub will give you happy skin days all throughout winter and beyond, so do check it out asap!
I recently won a giveaway hosted by the lovely Surbhi from Little Reviews and to my delight, I won all 5 shades of the Loreal Paris Infallible Paints Eyeliner! The Loreal Infallible Paints range has been all over the internet this festive season but I didn’t purchase it because I found it a little overpriced, so winning these products in a giveaway was the best thing ever. So without further ado, here are my thoughts on all the colors and the formula of these liners.
The Infallible Paints Eyeliners have a liquid matte formula and are available in 5 shades in India – Black Party, Electric Blue, Vivid Aqua, Intrepid Teal, and Wild Green. The shade range is quite good, with an everyday black, an almost black but more fun green, a bright sky blue, and two more wearable blues, although I do wish that they had added a warmer purple/plum shade to the collection as well. The formula is pretty thin but not runny and the pen-shaped eyeliner comes with a very fine felt tip applicator. This applicator allows precise application despite the thin formula of the liquid and those who love a very thin eyeliner will absolutely love it. However, those who prefer a more dramatic liner will need multiple swipes to achieve the desired thickness. This is the kind of liner with which you cannot create a winged liner in one fluid swipe, you need to work in smaller sections. This allows achieving the perfect shape and is great for beginners but may irk the impatient people and those who are pros at applying their liner. I honestly do not mind the slightly longer time needed for application but what I do not like is that the pointed felt tip can poke the eye a little when you are working close to the lash line.
All the shades are intensely pigmented and create an opaque line in one go. The formula sets within a few seconds to an almost matte finish. The finish looks more matte in the arm swatches than it does on the eye but it is still one of the more matte formulas out there. I do love the matte finish because I am personally not a fan of glossy eyeliners. The formula is also completely smudge-proof and is also water resistant (will stay in place after contact with water but will disappear if you rub when wet). I quite appreciate this level of water resistance because the color can endure a bit of sweat or watery eyes but you can still remove it with extreme ease when you want to, even with plain water. In terms of longevity, it lasts on my lids for around 8 hours without smudging or budging.
Overall, I am impressed with the formula and pigmentation of these eyeliners but wish that the applicator was less pokey and the color glided more smoothly. I feel that the price point of INR 845 is a bit too steep and would personally recommend purchasing these when they are available for a discount. My two personal favorites are the shades 308 (Wild Green) and 304 (Vivid Aqua) because they are quite different from anything I own. If you prefer liquid liners, just like me, then I would say that picking up one of the fun shades might be a fruitful investment.
I am someone who always needs some color on her nails but hates painting them. Therefore, long-wearing, chip-resistant nail paints are what I am all about. This is why despite hearing mixed reviews about the Nykaa Salon Shine Gel Nail Lacquers, I grabbed two shades during the Black Friday sales because the gel formula and the fantastic shades were too tempting to not try. I am currently sporting the shade 201 – Viva Mexico on my nails and I must say this is one of the best items from my massive Black Friday haul.
This shade is the perfect reddish orange with ever so slight hints of pink that make it somewhat the ideal deep coral for all Indian skin tones. I honestly cannot think of any skin tone this shade will not flatter in the most striking way. In fact, I love this shade so much that if I could re-pick my wedding lehenga, I would go for this color.
The formula is slightly thicker than your regular polish but not goopy at all. It literally glides on the nails and provides opaque pigmentation in just one coat, although I applied two coats this time just for good measure. It takes only a couple of minutes to dry completely and does not smudge even if you go in with 2 coats within a span of 5 minutes, something that I truly appreciate. It is quite similar to my favorite Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Color, but I feel that it is EVEN better in the shine and smoothness of application department. The nail color has an enchanting shine to it which is the closest to actual gel nail paints that I have ever experienced. It reflects the light beautifully and the shine lasts for at least 3-4 days before it begins to dull down. Also, the formula is pretty chip-resistant on my nails even though I do a lot of household chores. The first and extremely tiny chip appeared after 4 days and my nails stayed pretty presentable for 7 days.
Overall, this is the most impressed I have ever been with a gel-like nail color that I have tried and I will definitely be purchasing more shades from the range. The price of INR 325 for the gorgeous 15ml bottle is completely justified due to the opacity, longevity, and shine of the formula. Plus, you can always grab these for even cheaper during one of the many Nykaa sales. If you are someone who doesn’t like repainting your nails in the middle of the week then I must insist that you should buy at least one shade from the range, I am sure you will go back for more once you try it!
Evening skincare routines are usually way more effective than morning skincare routines because your skin gets a good 8 to 10 hours to absorb the goodness of the skincare products. This is why including an excellent night cream for your face in your P.M. skincare is an absolute must. But what about the rest of the body? Identifying the lack of a night-specific body lotion in the market, Greenberry Organics has launched their Night Lotion with Anti-ageing & Brightening Extracts that provides overnight hydration and rejuvenation to the skin.
This night lotion contains a bunch of nourishing oils, along with organic refined Murumuru butter that carries powerful anti-oxidising properties. It also contains pomegranate oil that is rich in essential fatty acids that prevent ageing and keep the skin looking supple and youthful. The consistency of this body lotion is buttery and extremely smooth. It literally glides on the skin and sinks in almost immediately without leaving any streaks or white cast. If you prefer slightly less intense night creams for your face then you can use this lotion on your face too, and who doesn’t love a multi-tasking product, I know I do.
Efficacy-wise, this body lotion scores full marks. Although it sinks into the skin instantly, it keeps the skin hydrated and super soft for hours. My arms and legs literally feel baby smooth in the morning when I use this product at night. With some body butters and lotions, when you scratch your arm even hours after applying the product, the cream crumbles and gathers, which means that it has been sitting on the surface of the skin instead of being absorbed, but this does not happen with the Greenberry Organics Body Lotion which leaves the skin super moist but without any trace of a greasy residue.
This body lotion combines the best of both worlds in a bottle by being light-weight as well as intensely hydrating. It has earned an irreplaceable spot on my bedside table and has become a winter skincare staple for me. Priced at INR 595 for a 200ml bottle (currently available for INR 500 on Amazon), this body lotion seems like a cross between a body sorbet and body butter from the fancier brands and it is a wonderful hybrid indeed. Do give it a shot if you are in the market for an excellent nighttime winter moisturizer.
A lot of us pay plenty of attention to our skincare and moisturizers but often use shower gels without giving much thought to their ingredients. However, shower gels with an abundance of chemicals in them, or those that are heavily perfumed, can often lead to excessive dryness and even body acne. Also, we all tend to skip using a body lotion from time to time, thanks to our hectic schedules and the urge to get more done in the 24 hours that we have at hand. Therefore, a shower gel with all natural ingredients that are soothing and beneficial to the skin is an absolute must-have. The Greenberry Organics Rose and Jojoba Oil Body Wash Gel checks all the right boxes for me and is a delight to use every morning.
This body wash is a pink gel that smells exactly like Gulkand and produces a soothing and not too frothy lather on the skin. It is extremely gentle and does not leave the skin dehydrated or flaky like the body washes that produce a lot of foam. It contains extremely nourishing ingredients such as Jojoba Oil, Rose extracts, and Vitamin-E and is made of 100% natural ingredients.
This paraben-free body wash is ideal for all skin-types but will be especially beneficial for those with extremely dry or sensitive skin because it cleanses thoroughly without stripping the skin of its natural oils and provides supple and youthful skin after every wash. I also feel that this body wash calms down any active body acne on my back or shoulders and reduces their redness and size too.
To sum it up, if you love the scent of roses and your skin is in desperate need of some hydration then you must add this body wash to your cart. Also, the travel-friendly bottle that comes with a pump is a winner for me and I will definitely repurpose it once I am done with the product. The price tag of INR 595 for a 200ml bottle may seem a little steep but once you use this all-natural product, I am sure you will never go back to the more affordable but chemical-laden body washes. So come join me in smelling like a rose and feeling fresh like a daisy with the Greenberry Organics Rose and Jojoba Oil Body Wash. I am sure you will not regret it 🙂
I must confess, I am one of those people who are always too lazy to use a body lotion. I may follow a seven-step skincare routine for my face but when it comes to my arms and legs, I assume that they will fend for themselves. This attitude doesn’t give me much trouble during the warm and humid summers but come fall and winter and my skin starts complaining about the dryness and flakiness, and I have to half-heartedly make some room for a body lotion on my vanity. However, this autumn and winter, I have a body lotion with me that is actually a joy to use, and this product is the St. D’vence Autumn Edition Moisturiser, an Ultra-Enriching Body Lotion that is perfect for the colder months.
This nourishing body lotion contains Argan Oil, Avocado Butter, Olive Oil, and Vitamin E, ingredients that I really enjoy slathering all over my skin. Also, the fact that these hydrating oils and many other natural ingredients are the first many names in the ingredients list proves that this is truly a product that celebrates nature’s goodness and does not just use trace natural ingredients as a marketing strategy. It is paraben-free, mineral oil free, phthalates free, and hypoallergenic, basically it is devoid of all harmful chemicals that can damage your skin.
Texturewise, it has a fairly thick consistency – somewhere between that of a body butter and a body lotion, however, it spreads evenly on the skin and gets absorbed quickly, without leaving any white streaks. It has a feminine, perfumey scent which I absolutely love because I enjoy layering up products to smell good all day long. This scent may seem a little strong when first applied but it does fade to a beautiful and mild floral scent within a few minutes and lasts for several hours on the skin. As for the efficacy of the moisturiser itself, it leaves the skin supple, hydrated, and healthy looking, without any traces of dryness.
I will also like to give a special mention to the packaging, it is so cute and is the perfect size for travelling with! The flip cap, the shimmery label, and the tiny leaf at the front make the bottle utilitarian as well as perfect to fit in with the autumn theme. I do not like to travel with bulky lotion bottles and find decanting them quite a messy affair, so this packaging is a boon for me.
